In my opinion, and this is a view I've seen elsewhere too, Violet Evergarden is an incredibly uneven show. The episodes focusing on Violet herself aren't great but there have been a few phenomenal mostly stand-alone ones too so I'm glad I stuck with it. I won't know the final good/bad ratio until it ends though.

Also, a pretty cool thing about today's episode of A Place Further Than the Universe that someone on reddit pointed out which I totally missed:

(Actual spoilers do not read) The fact that they found that laptop at the base at all likely means that the reason Takako died is because she left it there on accident and tried to go back for it because it was her only way to communicate with Shirase.

She almost certainly went back for the laptop since Gin suspected she'd forgotten something, but the Shirase part feels like a reach. There would've been other email devices at that base.

That said, it was indeed a really good episode. Once the emails started piling up and it was like Shirase simultaneously realized how many she'd been sending and that her mother truly would never read them... dang.

Alright finished FLCL and then watched the new trailer that came out today

I see some people being upset with how it looks and I dunno, I think it looks pretty great. Seems like it's gonna focus on the group of them instead of just one, which is cool.

EDIT: Nevermind I just read a description that was released, it's just the one girl. I was off with my interpretation but that's fine. Hope they bring the robot dude back, he was great.

I realize that it sounds like a dismissive thing to say, but I think people are taking issue because it looks too....clean? That's not to saying looks BETTER, but FLCL, what with all the future Trigger blood in that team, was a pretty damn off model and squash-n-stretch show at times, and I think there was a lot of heart in that. A1 is more of an....on model studio, but I'm kind of hoping they might be using some of that Franxx influence to open up a bit.

Today I wanted to watch something guaranteed to be uplifting, so I watched all of Amanchu (thank you for mentioning it in post 48, Granzon). I'm a sucker for sentimental friendship stuff like this, and it helped that Teko was a main character I could relate to. Of course, the real star of the show was Pikari, she was endlessly energetic and always fun, a character type I adore. I also appreciated that she's apparently half-muppet! Everyone had a funny art-shifted expression and they were all great in their own way.

I guess Amanchu Advance can get my vote in the poll now. I'm really happy this is getting another season.

Ughhhhhh all I can think about right now is how frustrating AnoHana was.

I need to go watch that last episode again and bawl it out to tell myself it was worth it.

I read Spirit Circle, and wow! This was amazing! I didn't really know what this series would be at first since apparently I didn't look into it at all. Just saw the cover with a boy with a ring weapon and spirit ally and figured it'd be some shounen fighting series or something, but it totally wasn't that. Instead, it's about experiencing the main characters' past lives, and seeing how they all led to this one. All the past lives are written incredibly well, and there are tons of emotional scenes. It's kinda incredible how the author can get you to care about all these characters in such a short time, though the reincarnation aspect helps with that. The way they all link back to the present is basically perfectly executed as well. Wish I'd taken notice of this a couple years ago when it finished!

Apparently this is a good year for manga and me, since this is the second 10/10 I've given to a series this year. Check it out, guys! It's only six volumes long, so it's not that much of a time commitment, and it uses its time perfectly. <3

It's one of those anime where the first couple episodes you're like "Haha, crazy! Look at these refs!", but quickly you realize it's got no actual meat. It's very easy to be tricked into watching, though I think it's easy to see through it's facade nowadays.

Finished the first season of Sword Art Online. That second arc was waaaaay worse than the first.

I wasn't a fan of what they did to Asuna's character at all, she became an object for the generic rapist bad guy to molest. Then there was an incest subplot because of course there was. The fairy world was less fleshed out, the adventure was boring, and Kirito only ever managed to do anything because of literal hacks. Then there was that ending and I'm honestly not sure what the message was. "Sure one crazy scientist used virtual MMOs to kill thousands of people and another crazy scientist used virtual MMOs to torture the psyches of hundreds of people but let's spread the technology worldwide!", bleh. It was almost impressive how many things these eleven episodes managed to get wrong.

Ah well. I'll get to the second season in a week or so. Hopefully it's better than this fairy arc.
