I have never personally opened that sub Reddit, but based on what I hear from Suprak at times, it is clearly a cesspool. And, while I hate to label people I have not met or even read posts from, it seems to likely have at least some alt-right influence within it.

I feel like, even though most of us here hate the Trump administration overall, we present different viewpoints as to why and come from different points on the left side of the political alignment chart.

I definitely think that we have gotten better and better as time goes on to source, discuss, and even disagree on why we hate some of his policies and what Trump could be doing better.

I dont know of anyone that frequents these topics that doesnt want their ideas to be respectfully challenged, and thats the antithesis of T_D

I am not comparing these threads to that sub Reddit. Good God that would be Ulti levels of insanity. I am stating there are individuals in these threads that are people you would expect to see in the literal opposite iteration of that if it existed.

Edit: I am not saying they are offended if you challenge them. I am saying they don't give a shit if you challenge them because Trump is always wrong and thus they are right sort of people. Trump is ALWAYS wrong. According to them.

And yeah people I call out might come in here and name something he did right once to try and not look that way, but I can't remember specific examples from a couple of people.

The thing that immediately weirds me out about The_Donald is the amount of Trump worship that's apparent even before reading a single comment. The front page of the subreddit has a picture of Trump on the middle top of the page, another picture of Trump in the top-right, another picture on the right sidebar, and a gigantic fucking picture of Trump in the bottom-left that takes up 1/4 of the screen. Which, by the way, doesn't go away unless you click it, upon which you are immediately subscribed to the subreddit and allowed to vote there. Yeah, did I mention you aren't allowed to vote unless you're subscribed?

It truly gives off the impression of stepping into a place of cult worship. Let's compare this to the The_Mueller, which was also mentioned here. The front page of the subreddit has one picture of Mueller at the top, and one picture on the right sidebar. Two less than The_Donald (although I think one would be enough). More importantly, there's no gigantic Mueller in the corner forcing you to subscribe if you want to vote or participate in the forum. And lastly, these rules are specifically stated:

"Stick to memes and shitposts when submitting shit. This is meant to be a silly subreddit, sorta like /r/Circlejerk or any of the other meme subs. Don't get your knickers in a twist over a silly meme. If you want proper discussion about the investigation, check out /r/RussiaLago. Articles are acceptable too."

Also; Trump supporters won't be banned on sight. Unlike a certain similarly named subreddit, dissent is tolerated. Just don't break the rules in your dissenting.

At the onset, the atmosphere of the subreddit is significantly more relaxed than that of The_Donald. In contrast, The_Donald outright bans criticism of Trump. Without exaggeration. It's specifically stated in the rules that you aren't even allowed to say something like:

"I'm a Trump supporter, but ..."

So yeah. That's a lot of text over analysing subreddits, but subreddits are a growing part of social media and reflect the personalities of a group of people. And The_Donald is, quite frankly, really weird and unsettling.

If the organizers, people who certainly supported it, the Hollywood elites and the liberal billionaires who funded this, it's all about politics. First, Americans who agreed with the various measures of Christian nationalism were much more likely to vote for Trump, even after controlling for a host of other influences, such as political ideology, political party, and other cultural factors proposed as possible explanations of Trump voting.

Second, we find that Americans religious beliefs, behaviors and affiliation did not directly influence voting for Trump. In fact, once Christian nationalism was taken into account, other religious measures had no direct effect on how likely someone was to vote for Trump. Antagonism toward Muslims was just as important as Christian nationalism
