In the first two games, you build a whole army of three squadrons with up to 6 patapons in each. Now, you only fight using 4 "hero" patapons. Also, they got rid of the Rarepon system where you can customize each and every patapon to be a unique unit, and replaced it with a straight leveling and class/job switch system. However, weapons are a lot more effective now. Instead of using mats to change patapons, you use it to level up weapons. All those things I can get used to and eventually learn to have fun with though. The biggest change I'm not really liking is the increased focus on multiplayer, and having entire sections of the game blocked off, and content locked behind the multiplayer. I feel like I've seen the same type of character in the exact same situation a few times before. I'm also a little torn cause I don't really like zero two or ichigo. Oh well zero two has the better character design and is destined to "win" by virtue of being shown to the audience first (spoilers, the first girl you see virtually always wins). I kinda feel like the writer just liked that one episode of eva where shinji and asuka have to fight in perfect sync to defeat that one angel and just made a whole show about that episode. I'm also really not feeling the threat yet. Everything feels like its going a little too well and like this is when they would normally turn things around on you and brutally kill off of a few of the main characters (probably fatty and one of the girls at minimum) so we get that "this shit is serious, don't go goofing around" moment. Almost every single episode heavily involves something that ~~Croix is doing, having her act as the show's Rita Repulsa ("Oh, so they're doing this, huh? Well, let me spice things up!")~~ and it focus far too much on the overarching (and pretty meh) plot too much. That said, the episode where Akko helps Constanze was really fun and the Diana episode (which ~~iirc didn't feature Croix at all~~) was pretty good. Plus some of the revelations near the end were great, even if the foreshadowing was weak or barely existed (although -- overlooking that some of it didn't necessarily make much sense -- it adequately answered some larger questions). And (major spoilers) Croix's character motivations seemed all over the place, considering that some of her games seemed designed to kill people yet other times yet she was also working on the "greater good" angle, etc. Not to mention that she tried to save Chariot an episode or two before trying to kill her. And, of course, Croix herself just comes out of nowhere. The feeling I get from this show is that it wants to do something brutal and vicious after building up our attachment to the characters but I really expected whatever that was to have happened by now. Surface level it makes sense that squad 13 will eventually have to stop the council of adults and destroy hringierier or whatever the hell its called probably while also defeating some sort of klax thing. My mind is going according to eva's script though with the instrumentality project and the final angel being humanoid. We also have the storybook that is clearly supposed to be talking about whats happening. Following that the beast has cast aside her wings. If you actually read the text of the storybook when they showed the whole thing at one point you would know that it ends with the princess almost killing the prince but instead leaving forever leaving the prince heartbroken and depressed. Perhaps zero two could actually become human by killing squad 13 or end up losing what little humanity she has. Of course, if that is the way the story goes I don't really expect the ending to remain the same. Warning bells are also starting to go off with episode count. We clearly have A LOT of ground to cover and only 8 episodes left. Thats doable but a rushed ending seems very possible. Oh also I'm not sure if miku's hair is actually white or if thats another way the illness they all seem to be getting shows. If they could see their accuracy stats after the game everyone would be sub 10 except M, the only person not using the bullet circle. They went on and on about how useful the bullet circle is but these people can't hit shit. The tactics also went from SWAT to YOLO real fast. I almost feel like a different person wrote the first two episodes. Watched Wakfu the other month on NFI (but I don't think I mentioned it here because it's not anime) which was surprisingly good (for seasons 1 & 2, anyway -- the OVA-arc sucked and season 3 was kinda lame except for Dally and ~~his daughter~~). Got all my SSR characters to their max level except one and just unlocking her uncap is a huge pain that I'm going to avoid for the foreseeable future. Also unlocked tier 4 classes finally and got two of them(Berserker and Chaos Ruler). Have enough for one more tier 4 class or for glorybringer. Xeno and Unite and Fight are going to suck for me, since my dirt/wind teams are lacking. I've been working on my dark too lol. Finally got a 3 star Celeste omega summon. Took me way longer to acquire than the other elements. BUT THERE WERE NO SUBS! It's pretty frustrating not knowing what these characters are saying, especially if you have a little bit of knowledge on japanese words.
