regarding the polarized discussion thing, i usually keep my conversational posts in the VGMCs lighthearted. as far as i'm concerned this is just supposed to be a fun contest, no need to get at people's throats over this.

but occasionally i make an exception, like when zyxyz described transformer robot sing wheels on the bus as "literally just a bundle of discordant noise." even though it's one of my absolute favorite discoveries from this contest i don't care if people hate it, but the "it's not even a SONG, it's just noise!" thing just really triggers me. so i did react pissy to that post.

Laguerra del Mundo < Sunshine Coastline, 19-23
Xeus < Preserved Valkyria, 17-21

Congratulations to Sunshine Coastline for being the first song to reach the finals. Two songs I nominated reached the final four, and I knew it was time to pay the piper. Laguerra joins Rapal in the catalog of retired Granado Espada tracks, while Sunshine Coastline has the chance to make Falcom the second developer with two champions.

A bigger congratulations to Preserved Valkyria for coming out of retirement and winning the side bracket. I had hopes that there might be something that could stop its march to victory, but it stomped right over everything, including Xeus, which should probably be retired from snubs participation at this point.

I really didn't expect Nico's Theme/Final Battle ~Unwavering Thoughts in my Heart~/"Scramble" to come out of that contest looking as respectably as it did. I felt it was an achievement that it even made it out of R1, so to be the only thing that really posed a threat to PV all contest is really something else.

Falcom side could definitely do better, but then I tend to think the Kiseki OSTs are stronger than the Ys ones generally.

but even within the confines of Ys we could do better. (Water Prison, Genesis of the Beginning, Ernst - particularly the Ys v Kiseki remix, etc.)

I always get excited when I think of Nerfertiti and then I realize it's not Stigmata ;_; Namenloses Licht would also be acceptable if we're talking about epic Mana Khemia music. And yet both of them did so poorly when they had their entries.

Soaring Through the Melancholy Skies vs. Sky of Twilight

soaring deserved better than getting snubbed in side bracket

...I nominated Sky of Twilight for VGMC10 and IIRC I got crickets from everyone. I was pretty surprised. In retrospect this has been happening a lot lately.

Oh, wow. Sky of Twilight isn't a favorite of mine, but I do think it's a ridiculously strong song. Much more than other stuff from Atelier that got nom'd, (cough cough Mystic Pendulum) and even just a lot of things in general.

I mean, in this very contest, Soaring Through the Sad Blue Skies was completely ignored during noms, then wound up being liked by a lot of people on Discord in the side bracket.

(only to lose to In This Cage, which is just... I'm not as inflamed at it as I was in the moment, but I still can't help but compare it to the superior Koe and Chou from FF3/2, respectively.)
