What are everyone's thoughts on Rizzo's slide on Elias Diaz. I imagine tazzy will probably say its clean but I was wondering what others thought.

And my bad for assuming you would think it was clean. I've had a couple of arguments with Cubs fans the last day saying it is clean but you see Rizzo come inside the line to hit the ankle of Diaz who is a good yard away from home plate and that was what I found frustrating.

It's hard to tell. He's in the basepath until the very very end of the play. He's allowed to slide into the catcher to break up a double play yeah? So how could he do that in this case and have it not be dirty? I don't think it was dirty (it's not like he tackled him or slide too late or anything) but it seemed illegal since he slid out of the basepath

Just watched and I'm not sure. From what I understand, it's only illegal if he shifts momentum in order to create contact, and he didn't really do that. He just premeditated the contact and ran further off the basepath than normal. I think it shows more that the rule kinda sucks than anything else. But yeah, if the Cubs fans you're talking to are suggesting it was accidental, they're delusional. Haven't seen any discussion on it yet.

Entire infield converges on the mound, as do Mickey Callaway, Dave Eiland, and trainers. Steven Matz is coming out fo the game in the bottom of the 4th. Paul Sewald entering the game. And to make matters worse, the Mets are going with Vargas on short rest tomorrow and Lugo for at most 4 innings on Thursday. And they're playing one man short tonight, too. And in essence, they're down more than that because Lugo and Vargas can't pitch tonight, and Robles and Familia each threw more than one inning yesterday.

I hate being a Mets fan.

Imagine the worst loss you've ever seen your team have in your life. Now experience it 4 times in the same week. Also it happens once a week. Also a bunch of players get hurt. You're still about 1/64 of the experience of being a Mets fan. Nobody experiences soul-crushing losses in the volume and magnitude that we do, with literally exponentially increasing amounts of injury to insult on top of it, every year gets exponentially worse. This franchise is completely spiraled out of control, well beyond the point of no return.

All hope is lost. This team will never win anything. They are unbreakably cursed.

(Please refrain from saying "but team X has it worse etc etc", dont want to hear it)

The mets have lost 6 games this year where they led after 6 ip which leads baseball (white Sox also have 6 somehow). No other team has more than 4.

The Mets gave 4 such games over the last 7 days.

Notice the dates. Also notice 3 of times happened when deGrom started. And in each case pitched fantastically and left with the lead and the team still lost (As you'll recall with my last 7 starts 0.53 ERA 2 wins stat.... And 22 career starts where he left with the lead but got a ND)

wow! what a redemption hit for Orlando Arcia.

For those who don't know, the star brewers shortstop, Arcia, was surprisingly sent down to the minor leagues about a week ago due to a poor stretch of hitting he was going through. Many were shocked at the move, though I feel it was a gutsy call to send a slumping player down, no matter who it is.

Well, the shortstop playing in his stead got injured last night, and so Arcia had to be called up again much sooner than the organization was expecting. They don't even start him today; he's on the bench. However, after losing the lead in the 7th off our usually indestructible bullpen, Arcia comes to bat for the first time since the demotion, with the lead run on 2nd, and smacks an rbi single into right field.

Talk about a redemption shot.

And let me explain what I mean by that before you go all WELL THE PADRES THIS or THE MARINERS THAT. Yes, I know they haven't sniffed a World Series "success" and we have. That's fine. That's not my point. I'm not saying the Mets are less succesful than those teams. I'm saying the losses the Mets experience, and the hope they give you is crushed, day to day year to year, more often than any team I know. At least over the last 10 years. because in the early 90s they were your standard run of the mill bad team. Those losses don't hurt as much as the ones that matter. Because the Mets have never won it all, every important game they lose that impacts them winning it all is all the more painful.

Blown leads, catastrophic injuries in tandem with losses, coming very close to winning late and losing anyway, mounting a comeback and achieving it but then losing anyway. losses on embarrassing plays like dropped pop ups, walkoff balks, walkoff walks, or pitching a CGSHO after a long rain delay, and you stay up til 1 AM to watch your pitcher spinning this amazing 1-hitter and taking a 1-0 game all the way to the 9th with a 1 hitter still going until you lose on a walk and a walkoff home run.

THOSE kind of games we have in ample amounts.
So when I complain and shit it's all heartcrushign memories like that. It's not just losing a bunch of games, its how they're lost, and how painful they are. And often times it's the context, like I said being surrounded by injuries, or blown 8.5 game division leads in September where in the final game you just need a win and your starter gives up 7 runs in 0.1 Innings, or losing the World Series because you blew 8th inning leads in 3 different games, twice due to stupid errors- or after making whats considered the most amazing catch in baseball history in a game 7 NLCS game, you lose anyway next inning when Yadier Bleepin Molina hits a home run, and your best hitter strikes out on a nasty Wainwright curveball with the bases loaded and 2 out, or you somehow make it to the NL Wild Card game despite overcoming ridiculous injury odds only to lose when some guy no one has ever heard of hits a 9th inning 3 run homer (and naturally your ace matches 0's with Bumgarner).

How about you finish the World Series, and you are devastated because of the way you lost it, but you're optimistic for the future because you have all these stud pitchers and you honestly think (and rightly so) that the team should be set for years to come and should be a perennial playoff contender because of all their young pitching talent? What about when the very next year all of them get hurt, and 3 of them have their careers permanently ruined by these injuries, and all 3 are never the same again?
What about all the optimism then?

I mean i could go on and on and on, and have an endless amount of unbelievably painful losses like that , and sure everyone has their share, but no one has NEARLY as many as the Mets do. And I can't prove that but they have just so many, I doubt anyone is close.

So that's all and if you don't like me complaining about all this , I mean ,in this particular example the bottle was opened and it all spilled out so it can't be contained. But just understand my bitching is 100% completely warranted given the pain and suffering this team has caused in extreme ample amounts every year, every day of my life. Like just this week they blew games three days in a row with 6th inning leads!!! And they lost Syndergaard and Matz and Flores (and others) to injuries! I'm not allowed to complain about that?

I use this as a place to complain because I NEED to let it out. I need to get this shit off my chest or it will destroy me internally. if you don't follow this team, you have no idea how awful and painful the losses get, and it's not just because I care a ton about the team- these kind of losses would devastate any fan of any team, if it happened to them this often and in these ways.

And on top of all this, because all Mets fans are crazy, we're just going to be out there the next day, as hopeful as ever. No matter how badly we get abused, we want to keep going, because when (if) they finally win, all the suffering will be worth just experiencing that one World Series win (and for this all that matters are your experiences while alive... since their last win was before I was born... so don't get to experience any joy that would've stemmed from that...)

they needed to DFA someone for one of their reliever roster moves (since the relievers are so overworked this 20 game stand). they decieded to DFA spot starter and maybe decent reliever and prospect, PJ Conlon. He'll probably get claimed cuz he's been not bad and hes a top 30 mets prospect. They could've DFA'd jose Reyes instead but didnt because ?????
