It's crazy that MLB firsts are still happening in 2018 after all the baseball games played in the past.

Earlier this season, Brewers were part of the first game ever that began and ended (in walk-off fashion) with back to back home runs.

Yesterday, the Brewers first baseman Aguilar became the first player to ever break up a no hitter greater than 5 innings with a home run AND then later hit a walk off home run in the same game.

Amed Rosario will get a few days off in place of Jose Reyes at short because Mickey Callaway says Reyes has been swinging the bat well lately. Said they'll take a couple says "to work on some things" with Rosario, things like hitting in the cage and fielding drills.

Reminds me of the insider analysis I read recently about the Orioles and how Peter Angelos and his buddy and former Orioles 'legend' Brady Anderson have basically been acting as the real GMs since about spring of 2014 and Dan Duquette has mostly been managing deals pertaining to movement within the minors.

I mean, just like the Wilpons, it's been blatantly obvious for a while but all the same it's grimly funny to hear it aloud.

this has been going on with the mets since they took full control in 200...4? and who knows when they had partial control since the late 80s?

Giants win 1-0 with a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 9th by Crawford after a gem of a game was pitched by Bumgarner (who sadly retired after 7 so he gets a ND). These are the games I love to see!

And after the next game against the Rockies we play 3 games in Arizona against the division leaders (4.5 games back). A good series there is going to be crucial!

mets would be very stupid to trade deGrom or Syndergaard for anything but over the top value. You can EASILY build a team around 2 of the best pitchers in baseball , plus strong position players like Nimmo, Conforto, Cespedes (healthy????), Flores... great base to start from. Go out and spend big on 1 guy (Machado), spend decent on a few more guys , and then get some cheap but good support (Frazier, etc). Like its not that hard and you dont have to break the bank. This is what any normal team should do. They have so many good pieces surrounded by a ton of shit right now and thats why theyre bad (ownership's fault). But its really not hard at all to build a winning team from the good pieces they have, and it does not need to cost Yankees/Dodgers/Red Sox/Nationals levels of spending.

I heard from a source that Yankees made an offer for deGrom - Sanchez (before he went on DL), Sheffield, Frazier. They obviously declined That's not even REMOTELY CLOSE to an offer they should accept. Sure you listen to offers cuz you ALWAYS listen to offers. But if you're getting offers like that, its never gonna happen, nor should it unless they get truly blown away. The Mets have all the leverage in the world with deGrom and they should use it. There's no reason they need to trade him or Syndergaard AT ALL. you only do it if the offer is 100% can't miss. Picture if the Angels tried to trade Trout right now. Same thing. Should never happen.

However, by all means, sell on the expiring Contracts. Trade Asdrubal and Familia and I think thats really all we got for FAs next year that are valuable lol

Youve heard the old expression the inmates are running the asylum. Well, that would be an improvement for the 2018 Mets.

Because nobody is running this asylum. Too many of the players cant handle the basics of major league baseball. The manager doesnt seem equipped to juggle the bedrock strategies and in-game preparation required. The front office now an unwieldy triumvirate wastes roster spots on old players with no future while letting young players rot on the bench. The new people in charge of injury prevention are as bad at their jobs as the old people were. Anonymous quotes continue to be stuck in unsuspecting backs. The face of ownership is a feckless, interfering twit whos been given a license for negligence by his industry and is likely to outlive a good chunk of the fanbase.

The Mets just completed the third-worst month in franchise history. They are the worst team in the National League. There is no particular reason to believe things wont get worse from here, and no reason whatsoever to think that anyone connected with this franchise is doing anything to address the top-to-bottom organizational rot.

Ive lived through some bleak, bleak times as a Mets fan: the Lorinda de Roulet years when the Mets were baseballs North Korea; the leaderless calamity of the early 90s; the undermanned embarrassment of the mid-aughts. All those teams were embarrassing and pathetic. I hated some of them and took a perverse delight in their chronic failures; others I just wanted to go away.

But I cant remember a more toxic brew of underperformance, incompetence and negligence than what this team serves up each and every day or feeling less hope that anything will change.

Despite a bad spring, Sanchez is still the best offensive catcher in baseball (not that there is much competition), is 25 years old, and is on a rookie contract.

DeGrom is great but he's a pitcher in his 30s. The Yankees aren't the Mets... We don't make moves to win a single championship. Every major signing is to build a dynasty. And Sanchez will be an integral part of this next one for 5+ years. DeGrom has maybe 2 years where'd I'd confidently predict he'd be an ace.
