Well my flight got delayed. A lot delayed. Cancelled actually and I changed airports. so i missed the first game. which was close in score, but not really close, as Mets were up 5 all game till the Jays dropped a bomb in the 7th and the Mets lost.

Mets won second game 6-3. Closer at first. Then wasn't. But better games than we usually have!

So there you have it. Hmm, too many 1B on the NL side, but Muncy is more of a utility player, and I put Belt through on the Final Vote because Giants fans show up for the vote. Segura was my Final Vote for the AL. Those are hard to predict because who knows who will be there, and fan voting is wacky. Some tough choices on teams getting their one required player which could have a big effect on things. Choo is probably a better representative for the Rangers than Kela, but it's a lot easier to add a RP than a DH, unless Choo just gets in as the backup DH through the player ballot over Cruz, which is possible. Likewise for the Cardinals, it could go either way between Mikolas and Carpenter, but I preferred to include Muncy rather than squeeze Carpenter in. I think Carpenter could be another candidate for Final Vote though.

And yeah, a little bias there going with Nimmo as the 6th outfielder. That race could be completely up in the air between him, David Peralta, Odubel Herrera, Yelich, and Blackmon. I think he's gotten a bit more attention as he endears himself with that infectious smile, that could give him the votes on the player ballot to push him to the top of that pile.

Lowrie might just make it outright over Torres as the backup 2B, but he's made big waves despite a little less playing time as a rookie and recent injury. But Lowrie should make it one way or the other, so I included him with an asterisk. Brandon Belt is questionable, but it just comes down to who's on that Final Vote ballot. Trevor Story is another good candidate there.

I'm sure there are more snubs I missed. AL SP is super deep. Maybe someone like James Paxton can get on if Choo beats out Cruz, then you can get rid of Kela.

Snell will be on the team taking over for Verlander so there's no point in him taking a final vote spot.

Snell deserves to be a starter over Cole (and maybe Verlander too) but the players filled in their ballots when Cole > Snell. The players get ballots in May iirc and Snell had like a .500 record and 3.00+ ERA back then. I wouldn't take him over Sale/Kluber/Severino at all.

Giants have continued to show flashes of brilliance amongst streaks of mediocrity.

We sweep the division leaders to pull within a couple games of first? Follow it with a 4 game skid. Follow that with some more ho hum games and then have a 13 run game against the cards followed by an 11 inning victory against the cubs. With a good week they could still be right on the heels of the division lead ( currently tied for 3rd at 3.5 games out).

I just don't know how to feel from week to week about their chances.

What a weird couple days in the NL Central

Brewers just tanking into the all star break, which is the opposite of what we were doing last year into the all star break.

We were 5 1/2 up last year at the break on a hot tear going into it. We lost that lead in a span of a week after a poor post-all star showing.

This year we played poorly before the break, losing the division lead and officially at 2 1/2 back (though tied in the win column). Maybe we'll flip the script from last year and get out to a hot streak following the break.

All I know is that our once vaunted bullpen now looks very vulnerable, and our on again off again offense needs to turn back into the on position sometime soon.

I'm pretty optimistic about the second half as well. We've been doing this well with Rizzo and Bryant having weak year (Comparatively speaking), Hendricks looking way off, Darvish MIA for months, and Chatwood walking everyone.

If we can get our best players working at full potential again, and maintain the offensive production and stellar relief, we're probably the best team in the majors.
