I just finished watching through both seasons of Arakawa Under the Bridge. Man, those were certainly a bunch of weirdos living by that riverbank. There were a few characters and gags that I never really liked (Stella and Maria both got old real fast) but the good ones (Hoshi, Whitey, etc) more than made up for them. Rec was great too, being the rational one most of the time but also being a total weirdo in his own ways so he could still believably participate in the craziness. His interactions with Nino were always fun too.

Man it hurts to have to wait until next week but this episode still rocked it. And crazy thing, the dub ACTUALLY makes this scene better with All For One using All Might's "I am here" when dragging All Might away from Bakugo. The sub and manga both don't do that, I decided to check because I didn't remember it happening. I'm shocked that it took the dub to make a line usage as good as that

Huh, I watch the sub and when that moment happened I got a definite vibe of All Might's line even though the sub didn't actually use it. Maybe the tone of voice All For One used was similar or something. Or maybe I'm just crazy and got lucky this time, I dunno. But yeah it was a good episode.

I did feel like they could have done a lot more with her. For someone who really should have been a main character, there wasn't actually very much time spent with her. I wanted to see more dates.

I'm no expert either but from what little I've seen, it's an otherwise generic isekai (written by an author who is pretty open about hating both Korea and China) where the hero is a former WW2 Japanese soldier who is heavily hinted to be a huge war criminal. Like, he killed literally thousands of people with a sword in China, which really only happened during those grotesque competitions Japanese officers had to kill the most civilians. Anyway, someone finally realized adapting this was an awful idea and cancelled the anime adaptation, so now the anti-censorship crowd is angry.

ok I've come to realize that this series is kinda dumb bullshit but it's enjoyable how dumb and over the top it is?

I remember when everyone here hoped FranXX was slowly building towards something awesome. Instead we got some of the worst info-dumping episodes I've ever seen and now, with no meaningful build-up whatsoever, the plot has become aliens vs ancient underground monsters.

so, I actually didn't super mind that info dump episode but it was really STANDARD. Like I thought it was fine as a basic explanation for things but it doesnt really do anything really new or inventive.

Also Dr. Franxx is still a creepo and I was p happy when he got owned by the princess

A friend of mine is actually made a point to me that Franxx' episode pacing is more like E7 than anything else and feels like it should be 4 cour and not 2.

Like, I would be petty interested in them stupidly announcing another 2 cour season with a time jump. It's certainly flubbing a bit right now.

Franxx has been dumb for a while, but enjoyable in the same vein as Code Geads, just to a lesser extent. I haven't seen past 18, but that was pretty lame. The fact that all the buildup lead to something so dull kinda ruined it for me. Now it just seems dumb all around.

I just....I think A1 and Trigger as a team is revealing itself to be a bad combination in the end? A1 held Trigger back on their craziness for too long and now it's jarring, and there's been very little in terms of the extra budget and manpower that's made that worth it.

OH I just remembered about the last episode the reveal that "OH MY GOD WE'RE USING KLAXOSAURS TO FIGHT KLAXOSAURS" is just......you guys already did this with Evangelion! Like, not to keep comparing this series to that since Franxx does do some things differently but still. Not that huge of a revelation!

I will point out that the nature of these complaints if I'm understanding them properly is extremely similar to my complaints about Kill la Kill, and there was only one studio involved with that show.

Well, maybe these complaints are sort of inverted?

I didn't like Kill la Kill because it started out as some dumb and silly action/comedy, but then randomly swerved towards an extremely serious NGE-style show at around the halfway point without dropping the comedy entirely.

What it sounds like people are saying about this show is that it started out is a pretty serious and intriguing show but has now turned into a dumb/nonsensical plot.

Don't know if that distinction matters but at any rate that's my take on things.

I think it's more that it's revealed itself in a rather clumsy way and what it has revealed isnt really anything new, at least for me personally. I can still have some fun with it though.

And I quite liked the end half of KLK, Satsuki is a boss ass bitch and my favorite of the series.

Kill La Kill went towards a primary plot but never lost it's absurd style and presentation. I dont think it lacks that consistency at all.

Franxx is revealing a Trigger style plot but it feels like it's being held back by an A1 net. That's not disparaging A1, they're just more contradictory studios than complementary. There were times when that worked in it's favor around the middle, but as we approach the end I feel like I did for the first few episodes but on the opposite end of the spectrum. Trigger's flare didn't shine through in the beginning, A1's grounded approach isn't working in the end.

Actually the way you put it there though it's reminding me of an A1 show from a few seasons back called Qualidea Code. I think I was one of the only ones that finished it (for good reason, if true), but yeah.

At the risk of Mac slitting my throat, I personally beleive they probably were the bigger part of the problem in this equation.

That said, show's not over. Don't wanna jump to too many conclusion. From The New World bungled super hard in the lead up to it's last episode, too, and that's one if the greatest anime of all time.

Yea Franxx definitely has stuff going on, it just....doesn't all click together I guess which sounds like it would make sense with the studios situation. Set up this pretty interesting world and build up little cool parts here and there until....the full reveal is pretty plain. Like it WORKS technically but it's not particularly invigorating.

I haven't watched FLCL 2 yet, but I'm very interested to see if any Trigger rubbed off onto A1 for that. Could be an interesting (un)intended side effect, lol.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes episode 26

Hard to judge exactly how it's going to play out, but my initial reaction is to say that I really don't agree with the decision to kill Kircheis here. Not just because I liked Kircheis, but because it seems like it will completely put a halt on the development of Reinhard. Like the whole intrigue behind is character is that he's a young upstart commander whose trying to achieve his ambitions, but his character is kept very human by the fact that he's got his friends at his side and is trying not to lose site of what's important to him and why he set out on this path in the first place. With this move that's seemingly all been thrown away, and it feels like the only path forward for his character is to go full-on ruthless dictator, which is nowhere near as interesting.

Oh well. Guess for the moment I'm only watching this show for Yang Wen-li.

I watched through Castle Town Dandelion today. It wasn't perfect or anything, but I still highly enjoyed it. The concept of an election for the next king was an interesting foundation for the slice-of-life moments, and everyone having a random superpower added a lot of gag potential without ever becoming too distracting. It was impressive just how many plot elements and characters this show managed to juggle. I liked everyone but shy Akane was the best.

You mean the eldest son? I thought he was fine, he interacted well with everyone else in the cast. I thought all of the characters were fine, though.
