I feel like I need to take a break but I'm absolutely petrified I'll lose like half of all my subscribers if I don't put a video out for a week. SG has quit editing so it's all on me now and it takes a ton of time. I need to form up a backlog of releases.

Having a similar issue, my editor's burning himself out (and has a really unhealthy editing schedule) and I'm really concerned about consistency. I'd step up, but we bought him Vegas during that Humble Bundle sale and I'd just have to deal with iMovie of all things to put it together, which would concern me about the drop in quality.

But I'd say take the time off you need to, dude. Or just do a few streams during the week instead of anything editing intensive and upload those raw as a kinda cooldown period if you really want to keep content up.

On the topic of thumbnails I've been looking to tickle my design muscles a bit (is that a phrase? I don't know if that's a phrase), if anyone wants me to take a crack at designing a thumbnail overlay for a show.

One thing I am really appreciating about the Youtube space is the fact the videos are always there. Even if an initial push of views doesn't happen with an upload, it always seems like more people are viewing my stuff lately. Likes are beginning to trickle in too, which never hurts. Before, it would just be views.

I looked into new microphones just in case I ever want to upgrade, and I think I've settled on the Rode NT USB for $150-170.

That's the best mic I can find that won't break my boom mic stand like the Yeti (and even the AT2020) could do. I don't think I'm going to buy it until I know for sure if the grad school situation works itself out. No sense spending more money when I need it for LOANS!

This was the fourth video I made on Saturday. What I am noticing is my comfort level with the mic seems to increase as the videos go along. I mean, I started at 7 in the morning, and it sounds like I'm more lively as I go. It's just too bad this video includes a VERY annoying character the game forced on me. I'm also starting to use End Cards too. Simple addition that I hope is unobtrusive, yet effective.

All of our episodes are 30+ minutes long. Would seem strange to chop it into 10 minute chunks.

I think you need an intro or something to spice things up. Going into the video raw like that, and then not having any commentary for 10+ seconds was jarring. Even something like "welcome back guys to the next episode" or something along those lines would do wonders. I would fear people would watch the first bit and just figure its nothing but gameplay. Just my two cents!

Not every video is like that. Sometimes I introduce myself, sometimes I recap the situation, but I usually talk first. This was a rare occurence. If I skip commentary, I put a "No Commentary" tag in the title. I think I've done that at least 3-4 times. Considering I have a "We'll get to "such and such a point" NEXT TIME!" outro, I think developing an intro phrase might not be so bad. I'm still trying to find my voice, and this was one of the better videos for that. Something like a "MY FELLOW CITIZENS WELCOME BACK TO BLAH BLAH BLAH" whatever video is going on. Something bombastic to set the mood.

Ok sweet. I checked in with another content creator about the "ranking videos" or SEO thing, and part of the conversation re-iterated what you said about the well-defined intro stuff. I always wondered why people keep talking about retention and analytics and such, but there's definitely a method to the madness more than just views, likes, and subscriptions.

But anyway, tomorrow's a nice day off, so I can just game on the side without thinking.

What I like is you describe who you are, give a highlight reel, and you explain what the reward tiers are. The biggest thing is "per month" some Patreons go per song or per video, and I think (as a new Patron myself) that can get confusing. When someone knows you're only paying for one thing one time, it saves them from having to deal with too much.

My only issue might be the higher tiers. Not via content nor what you're asking for. What I wonder is if you're locked into those prices for good, or if you can check those later on and say, "Let's mark them down or up based on demand." Some people are willing to pay crazy amounts during twitch streams. You never know. I wouldn't (because I can't), but you never know.

But what is important is that $1 Donation. You've said, "We'll let Patrons have an impact on our product." That shows a willingness to let people engage with the process, because my assumption is those will be the majority.

So I definitely approve. My criticism of the higher tiers more based on my being cheap, not whether or not I know the market.

The pitch is fantastic, but I feel as if the prices are a liiiittle steep. They feel more similar to Kickstarter rewards than Patreon tier rewards. From what I've seen and known, the trick to Patreon is making the second cheapest tier very enticing, as the 1-dollar tier will be for supporters and the 5 dollar tier will be the little something extra - it's why the $5 one is usually the "your name in credits" one. People usually go huge for one-time impulse buys, but donations over time usually bring people away, why is why the $1 market is so strong on Patreon.

Not quite sure on constructive ways to fix that, since I know sprites are pretty damn intensive, but there's two cents for you at least.

Good question about whether the higher tiers are locked in. I would assume I'd have the right to change the prices, assuming they would get what they paid for in that certain month. I can say "Demand for this has gone beyond what I can handle so I'll have to raise the price" or something, but still give them what they paid for initially. I expect exactly NO ONE to sign up for $100 tier, that would be nuts.

I will admit, the sprite prices are a bit steep. This was at the request of my wife though, cause honestly we don't WANT every single person to sign up for those. Making them takes a loooooooot of time, especially the animated ones. And re-editing the end screen every single time a new person signs up could get taxing. These rewards are really only possible because we are so small, if we were much larger I could never get away with these.

I do really appreciate the feedback though guys, thank you so much. And I don't want it to come off like I'm arguing against it, just giving my justification for why it was setup like it is. But you do both raise good points, and we can always adjust in the future.

Was thinking of doing a JSR playthrough as a bit of a trial run for making videos, no idea how many times I've played through that game.

Dude yes, JSRF music is soooooo damn good. I wish that Funky Dealer fit Tony Hawk at all, I love that song so much.

Also I believe you can mute the music in-game for most Tony Hawk titles, so there's at least the potential to edit music in? There's also some potential for customizing the soundtrack for the HD version... buuuut those are also the HD versions.
