For the record, the average ranking for OW was about 32.9, which means RI's is at least slightly better than that. I honestly thought everyone would have it in their bottom 5, with most of those being bottom 2s or 3s, so either people are a lot more forgiving of it than I thought or somebody had it really high.

#36 One World (with writeups)
Average Ranking: 32.91

Inviso: 27 - A lot of people claim One World has a terrible cast, but thats one negative I will always strongly disagree with. I would say that, with better editing, or without such a dominant player running circles around the other seventeen cast members, One World wouldve been a completely satisfying season. Unfortunately, the blandest and most level-headed players in the season also happen to be the ones that wound up running the show and cutting anyone who mightve spiced up the game. But still, Id argue that fifteen cast members showed strong potential, and there WERE bits of personality injected into an otherwise boring season. Sure, there were several characters so offensive that they helped ruin the season with their overbearing presence, but you cant say they werent memorable. I just have a hard time outright HATING One World, because its such a complete nothing season. It has some moments and ends up boring, but its not the worst thing Survivor has ever produced.

BCT: 28 - Basically a better Redemption Island due to its characters creating moments of randomness, such as Tarzan being jealous of Chelseas boobs. The reactions to Colton were amusing and ultimately made his karmic retribution more satisfying, but even then he never should have been cast. Kim Spradlin was quite a dominating winner and in her first time, no less.

Illuminatus: 29 - No writeup

YoRyan: 33 - "cure for insomnia"

eaed: 33 - The problem with One World isnt so much of the negativity, which it definitely has in a huge way in the premerge, it is just SO DAMN BORING. When you are watching Survivor in a robotic strictly strategic sense you probably love this season because Kim is absolutely amazing but even on my 2nd true rewatch there really wasnt much there. Some fun moments with Tarzan but even then his contention with just losing when he lost made it even more boring and I just had enough. Not negative enough to be lower.

FBike: 33 - Most boring season of all time, and its central twist barely impacted the game.

darkx: 35 - With the most boring and predictable winner the show has ever had and arguably the most vile human being in Survivor history, the only thing keeping this season from being the worst is a few contestants who are just crazy enough to get some laughs.

GTM: 36 - unfun pagonging, colton sucks and uh

Mana Sword: 36 - No writeup

DoctorBlind: 36 - I didnt realize this was my least favorite season until I put in the time to rank them. The concept of One World is interesting, but they gave up on it too early and the cast was a major dud. At least Kim is great.

Naye745: 36 - terrible season with a good winner (but no suspense) and Kat. the fact that all momentum died when the worst person left says it all.

Upon rewatch Jonas wasn't all that great. And he's actually not very popular elsewhere on the internet. For some reason this board just went nuts for him when the season first aired.

I think One World's Ponderosa was actually a lot more fun to watch than the post-merge.

I don't remember Jonas doing anything. Went out pretty early. I do remember him getting talked up in various topics here and then being a little confused when I watched the season.

He was just kind of a funny-ish real guy but there were much bigger personalities on the season, like Kat, Tarzan, Troyzan, and Bill for the better, and Colton and Alicia for the worse.

Jonas was a dud. They were mostly duds. The people I can think I could even muster feels (positive or negative) Colton, Kim, Chelsea, Alecia, Kay, Troyzan, Tarzan, and kind of Jay and Sabrina. Anyone else I would probably have to look at a wiki for.

#35: Redemption Island
Average Ranking: 32.55

DoctorBlind: 14 - Okay. I get it. Objectively this season isnt great. BUT! Boston Rob was my favorite castaway growing up, and seeing his masterful performance was thoroughly enjoyable for me, even if he was working with a bunch of soulless zombies.
BCT: 30 - A season with nothing of note after the first few episodes, which give enough momentum that fizzles fast. Franchesqua led to the false pretense that it was going to be a fun season, but that ended after Hantz crying home to Mommy made everything straightforward. The second Elrod blindside is epic but nothing happens after that due to the terrible decision to continue RI after the merge, which makes the game flip-free. I hope someone was fired for that. The winner is too predictable and has no competition at all, but at least the hectic start salvages this otherwise daunting season from the bottom five.
Mana Sword: 30 - No writeup
darkx: 34 - The entire season is just one big ego stroke for Boston Rob. His win wasn't telegraphed, it was practically pre-destined. The first four episodes gave the season so much promise, but, I can't believe I'm saying this, the momentum died with Russell's elimination. For the rest of the season, again, I can't believe I'm saying this, Phillip was the only thing that kept the season even remotely worth watching.
GTM: 35 - unfun pagonging, franchesqua
Naye745: 35 - the Rob show. purple tribe wasn't relevant, but they sucked. i guess Matt getting voted out twice was funny? almost entirely forgettable.
Inviso: 36 - While several seasons have tried their best to unseat Redemption Island since its initial run, it remains the worst season of television the Survivor franchise has ever produced. There is NOTHING about this season that works. The cast is made up of either cannon fodder (interesting personalities trapped on a tribe that theyre never going to be able to integrate into), or bland do-nothings, and they easily get sucked into the screen time black holes of two returning players. The entire story of each tribe winds up revolving around the returnees, and although the first few episodes are decent, Redemption Island quickly becomes a never-ending slog of boring gameplay and complacent players awaiting slaughter. Throw in some extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant events in the post-merge, and there really isnt a single positive thing to say about Redemption Island.
YoRyan: 36 - garbage, they've come close but they'd have to actively try to make a worse season
eaed: 36 - This season being last comes down to a couple of bullet points: Captain Returning Players, A broken twist, Overall Boring/Predictable, Overall ugliness. And these are things happen in a lot of the seasons in the bottom half but the biggest issue is that these things are happening on screen and a lot! And Boston Rob, I have found more likeable over the years but hes not enough to save this season.
Illuminatus: 36 - No writeup
FBike: 36 - This was a season blatantly set up just for one contestant to win, so as no surprise it's ranked last. The inclusion of its eponymous twist only seals its fate.

GI may be recency bias, but it's also the culmination of just a bunch of awful ideas that Survivor picked up since hitting the 30s, that the producers didn't realize were bad the first time.

#34: Thailand
Average Ranking: 30.73

Illuminatus: 16 - No writeup

YoRyan: 26 - the original black sheep of survivor seasons. Not awful by today's standards i suppose but it's still not good either

FBike: 30 - I give this season points for messing with the established format, but it fails in practice.

darkx: 30 - The weak link of the classic seasons, for many years most people thought this was the lowest Survivor could go. Although it produced one of the best winners the show has ever seen, with an unlikable cast and one of the most uncomfortable incidents in the show's run, the ride to the end was terrible.

Mana Sword: 31 - No writeup

Inviso: 33 - This is a very unpleasant season. Like, its possible to have a negative season that is at least enjoyable to watch, but Thailand is dark and depressing. The biggest moment of the pre-merge isdisgusting to say the least. Dont get me wrong, I actually find amusement in a reasonable percentage of the cast, but I would say theres a big problem with just how mean-spirited people are, to the point where even enjoyable villains have their shine diminished. It definitely doesnt help that, despite an alliance of interesting characters taking over the game, the least telegenic one of them winds up winning out and leaving a bad taste in the mouths of the viewers. Oh, and also, the challenges this season suck. I remember that standing out because of how lame everything felt all season long.

GTM: 33 - people were mean on this season. and it was boring

Naye745: 34 - a lot of unpleasant people and storylines. boring pagonging. Brian's a good winner and Helen is great, that's about all you get.

BCT: 35 - Marred in hostility with a final five thats hard to like, this season is pretty much a shitshow thats only ever fun to watch if you dont take the third episode seriously. Thats hard to do. The fake merge twist was brilliant, but it ultimately killed the season since Sook Jai never stood a chance afterward.

DoctorBlind: 35 - What a snoozer. Doesnt help the majority alliance is unlikable. Couldnt even finish the season in my latest attempt to watch it a second time.

eaed: 35 - This season is the absolute worst of Old School Survivor. To reference the bullet points from my bottom ranked season. Thailand's characters were not overwhelming positive, in fact, they trended very negative more often than not. Once the fake merge happens, there is an uneven balance at the merge that makes Brians alliance ride easy to the end and then when Jane didnt come to play preventing Big Ted or Helen from making a move really kills the season from any form of excitement. Not to mention, while dominant, it was kind of awful to watch someone as unlikeable as Brian win the season.

Clue for #33: It had returnees.
