You should see the random encounters on Lunatic difficulty, they didn't want you to just grind your way past everything and so the random enemies are broken as hell to the point that you start seeing promoted enemies with 20+ in their main stats by like, chapter 3, to make sure you can't beat them without immense shenanigans

Stealing is fantastic in the GBA games. Mostly since the necessity of Lockpicks. Lockpicks are needed for opening doors and chests (outside of keys and the Unlock staff for the former), but eventually you'll run out. However you can steal Lockpicks from other thieves, and it's funny.

Tbh a lot of the S ranks are like that. There's nothing particularly romantic about the supports and then bam I love you let's marry and make a new unit.

Since every male/female support can turn romantic but you can do as many A ranks as you like, for whatever reason they decided to just write most supports to not seem vaguely romantic at all for the first three ranks (I guess they were worried people would be mad if their "waifu" was having romantic conversations with someone other than them...which granted is probably a legit worry with the audience they were targeting here sadly) and then randomly "Have I mentioned I've wanted to fuck you since the day we met" "What a coincidence, I want to fuck you right now" at S rank, which makes most S rank conversations terrible (the exceptions being the ones that actually break that pattern to some extent anyway)

You get rewards for saving them, I think the reward for all three is a stat booster of some sort. They're pretty easy to save as long as you hurry, although it's tougher if you don't know how Awakening works yet ie Awakening rewards having one or two units (plus their pair ups) do almost everything so they get ahead of the level curve to the point that they can just move wherever and win without you paying attention. I'm assuming you're on normal difficulty so it isn't really necessary, put the right pair up bonuses on someone and they're going to be able to just run out and do whatever with little issue

20 is the cap, you don't promote automatically, have to use a master seal. At level 10 you can use a second seal to reclass, which resets you to level 1. A promoted unit can use a second seal to reclass to an unpromoted class at any time, but needs to hit level 10 to be able to reclass to other promoted classes. Promoted classes get skills at level 5 and 15, so a promoted unit should probably just wait for their level 15 skill before switching classes

There are a few great supports where the S support leads naturally from the rest of the support, but yeah, random proposals of marriage is a pretty big thing in Awakening.

It's super easy to max out stats in this game, even if you're not really grinding, so it's worth class changing when you get all your abilities.

Ideally you would want to switch as soon as you get the specific abilities you want, but if it's your first time is generally just a better idea to just try to get all the abilities that class has and see which ones you like best. The only time you wouldn't want to switch classes is if that class has something specific about it that you prefer on a character, like the use of a certain weapon or mount.

You can go sideways or down with Second Seals.
Up with Master Seals

At L10+ Promoted, you can go sideways with promoted units via Second Seal. [E.G. L10 Paladin can become an L1 Great Knight]

There's some slightly confuddling math behind second seals, but for their use, use them early as possible, but only on an Even Level.

Any stats you gain from gaining Levels are not lost ever- though, if you go from one class to another and the cap is exceeded in doing so, you lose access to some of those stats, and cannot gain any more in that case. I.E. If you have 36 STR and go to a class that has a cap of 30 STR, you "lose" 6 STR, but if you second seal or master seal to a class that has 40 STR cap, you gain those 6 points back.

The "personal stats" [Stats from CHARACTER base, not class and stats gained from Leveling (not promoting)] are also used for determining second gen character Base Stats- which is with the following:

(Parent A + Parent B + Child Base [fixed])/3

So if you paired Chrom with Sumia, and Chrom's gained 18 STR above his class base, and Sumia's gained 15 above hers, Lucina would gain ~11 Str to her base when she joins.

You can promote at basically whatever level you feel like, even in the games with actual level caps promoting before level 20 is usually a good idea, and in Awakening with infinite room to level up and a ridiculously generous minimum amount of experience per kill allowing you to level at a decent speed regardless of how overleveled you are, you really don't lose anything regardless

You need to be Level 10 in that Promoted Class to do a Promoted Lateral Change.

If you second seal at Promoted 9, you can only go to base classes.

The reason you'd want to go down is to grab base class skills.

Note, for Dancer, Manakete, Dread Fighter, Bride, etc., to do a promoted lateral, they have to reach L30, which is what L10 Promoted is.
