This is one of the craziest Melee tournaments ever. Armada's first loss to someone outside the Top 6 in 8 1/2 years. If he and Swedish Delight both win their first matches tomorrow, there'll be a rematch. Imagine being the first person outside the Top 6 to beat Armada and then doing it *again* the next day.

Omito wrecking grand finals was kind of anticlimactic, but Lost Soul's run was super hype. The seats are extremely uncomfortable, so that sucks. Going get lunch during Smash because I don't really care.

GDQs are the only 'major' gaming events I've ever watched, and I guess they've spoiled me

They are behind schedule. GG Grand Finals only ended about 5 minutes before the scheduled start of SSBM. SSBM started 35 minutes late. Also if this is your first EVO stream, you won't really have a sense for how long these breaks will be.

EVO is presented more like a sporting event than just people playing games, like GDC is. They're changing setups, they're changing commentary teams, they're changing displays/advertisements/etc. at the venue itself, and so on, so the downtime between games is more necessary.

I mean, yeah, I get that. They could cut away to player interviews or something to fill in the downtime, though.

They really can't cut away to player interviews because the players are getting ready for their matches too and need to strategize and watch the games in front of them to see their future opponents. Usually in GDQ the players there get interviewed before the run before them, if not later, so they have plenty of time to practice stuff before their run if they need to and such.

The players are watching their opponents/preparing for their matches. There isn't really a big chance to do that.

they could just play footage of previous matches instead of screensaver and ads

or just speed up the setup changes so it doesn't take 30 minutes

I think only Melee requires one of those big TVs, everything else pretty much works on HDTVs
