Qudans is in my Tekken pool, and he's easily one of the best Tekken players in the world, so that's definitely not going to happen. I don't recognize anyone in my SFV pool, but I've barely touched the game since Season 2, so it would be a minor miracle if I were to do anything other than 0-2. My goal is to win at least one game in Tekken. Let's keep our fingers crossed for that!

Ahhhhh, it's so close I can taste it. I'm super stoked/nervous. Is Balrog Ball still a thing they have at EVO? Cuz I want to play some goddamn Balrog Ball.

I played a long set of Tekken against my brother last night and in one game I pulled off probably the sickest combo I've ever done in my whole life and I popped off like crazy. If I do anything half that sick at EVO, I'll be content.

My daughter was just born two days ago, so I am obviously not going to be at Evo this year! I don't have to worry about work at all during those days, just watching a small child, so I will have the streams open pretty much the whole time.

Your Tekken pool is obviously Qudans' pool to win, but I don't think I know any other names in there, so maybe you have a shot! (well, KaneBlueRiver is in there, but he's always been a Marvel player. Probably good at most games though.)

Sako is the big name in your SFV pool, but he's on the other side. No one else amazing is in there, but in SFV you could get someone who's halfway decent and knows one silly trick, and that will go a long way in pool play for that game.

I just double checked my pools, and it looks like they got shifted around a bit. I don't think Sako was originally in my SFV pool, and I don't remember KBR being in my Tekken pool either. My brother was originally in a pool with Super Akuma for Tekken, but he texted me this morning that now he's in a pool with Kkokkoma, which is definitely way worse. My brother absolutely haaaaaates Kazumi haha.

Which characters are you using in each game, flubbin?

I'm a Nina main in Tekken, through and through. She's a pretty uncommon character, so that is definitely an advantage for me since most people are unfamiliar with the match-up. The downside is that she has a high execution barrier, so I'm liable to fuck up a lot. I don't think I'm gonna try to go for the optimal max damage combos in tournament, but we'll see. I can only really hit them consistently like 50% of the time on 1P side and barely at all on 2P side despite many hours of practice.

I just played some SFV tonight for the first time in ages so that I could figure out which character I wanted to play in tournament. I played Karin at launch and she's probably my most solid character, but I played Ed right before I stopped playing in Season 2 and I think he's more fun to play. I'm fully expecting to go 0-2, so I think I'll just rock Ed.

Speaking of Nina, if Anna gets announced on Sunday as a part of Tekken's second season pass, I'll probably be crying literal tears of joy in the arena. It's unlikely, but not impossible!

For SFV, I think using the character you have more fun with is the way to go. No matter what record you get, the two games you lose could sting more if you aren't using the character you want to use. Plus, a little bit of practice this weekend could get your Ed into shape as your more solid character.

Also, if you lose to someone in tournament, it can't hurt to ask them afterwards about why you lost. You can ask generally, or about a specific move you couldn't deal with or some move of yours they dealt with well. At worst, they tell you something you already know or they struggle to explain anything themselves. But many times, people have given me some level of advice that teaches me something or reminds me about something that I commonly forget.

Also, thanks for the congrats guys! I'm pretty tired over here, but life is good right now.

Things are running pretty behind, I think. There was still an enormous line of people waiting to check in at 8 when pools were supposed to be starting. They just finally gave the announcement to start DQing people who aren't there for their pools.

I played Ed vs a really good Sakura. I don't even have Sakura downloaded so I don't know what she even does. Not that it really mattered, I would have gotten bodied anyway. My antiairs were horrid and I dropped a lot of combos.

Evo always has the issue of opening the venue at 8 am, while also starting pools at 8 am. That first time slot always runs so behind. I can't believe they haven't adjusted anything regarding it yet.

Hopefully you at least learned something in those SFV matches, and had a good time! Anti-airs are pretty important to always hit in that game, or else yeah, things can go poorly quick.
