Whatever happens to be the most dominating genre in Top 40s. Hear me out on this one. Trying to make popular music typically involves a lack of individualism or any attempt at trying to make something uniquely good. Making your sound copy that of the last dozen artists that made it big only stagnates that genre and makes it less exciting and qualified as a whole.

Out of those options rap. I only ever liked it when I smoked weed and only cared for the music of it but could rarely relate to the lyrics.

I'll take rap over country any day. Country is just flat out cappy. At least rap has a better sound to it and I'm a metalhead mind you and yes I like death metal. Anybody who doesn't listen to it shouldn't even be listening to it in the first place.

Earlier rap music is alright, and the same can be said for early country music. Nowadays they both suck, and there's probably some worse subgenre than both of these, because in my mind they're still pretty neutral by virtue of their beginnings.

No, that's not what I was getting at, hence the two statements. That second part is what's important. When people continue to copy what worked, it's gonna work for a bit until you get some 4th or 5th revision of it and now you've completely strayed from the course. Just because something is original doesn't mean it's good, but I would argue that most good things tend to be original or creative in nature. Then there are those who analyze trends and carefully develop a nice sound. I just know that I'd rather listen to something inventive because I can come to appreciate it more than a three chord song about melancholy ambiguous love for the 12th time. ... Copied to Clipboard!

First you ask what is the worst genre of music, then you ask which is worst. Given that, I would have actually expected an acceptable range of music to choose from - not a simplistically shortsighted choice of which two of those are worse

Kinda surprised at how even the results are so far...I thought rap would clearly be the frontrunner.
But I think most ppl here who pick 'R&B' is because they probably grew up on the 'Beyonce/Rihanna/Chris Brown' type of R&B (which they are more like Hip-Hop singers, IMO) instead of earlier R&B like Steve Wonder, Chaka Khan, etc. ... Copied to Clipboard!

As a musician and a longtime connoisseur of pretty much all types of music, I always enjoy the ignorance from people in these kind of topics. For instance, the expected "rap isnt music" claim or that "all metal sucks." But at least one of those is a subjective opinion. Rap not being music is just objectively false though. Just because it doesn't fit your definition of music doesn't mean it isnt

I have to say rap takes the cake and Im a huge hip hop fan, but rap is just straight up trash music now. At least with country music it takes talent to play instruments and perfect their vocals. Rap is just full of talentless hacks now.
