People have told him that they don't want to tune in to a gaming stream to listen to someone complain about their bills and beg for money. He doesn't seem to understand that most of the people watching him also have concerns about bills and money and taxes--they don't want to watch the guy who is supposed to be entertaining them talk about that stuff, especially when it's obvious that his financial problems are entirely his own fault.

And he might be playing games and begging for money into his 60s (if he lives that long). He's admitted that he has no plan B; he's fully expecting to do this as long as he can.

I first discovered DSP through SOK videos. I had heard one or two things (ie: the fapping incident) about him before, but their videos were my introduction to the deeper lore. This was a few months before the SOK got exposed for all the doxxing and other underhanded shit they were doing.

I think whether or not streamers deserve your money is always going to be a controversial topic. I've never given money to one, but I could understand someone else donating to a person who provides them with consistent entertainment. That being said, a person who shits all over every game he plays, treats the people who support him like garbage, puts little effort into what he's doing, and spends large chunks of his streams outright begging does not deserve your money.

I think with Wings there are some people who genuinely feel sorry for him. He still comes across as a massive asshole much of the time, but there are moments when you can see how sad and lonely and hopeless he really is.

I don't know what it is with DSP though, because there's no way to feel sympathy for him. His problems are all of his own doing. Even when he's telling people he's at his most desperate and he doesn't know how he's going to pay his bills, we know that all he would have to do is downsize and stop living outside of his means to fix things (or at least begin to fix things). But I guess some people do buy into his narrative of being the gutsy underdog who's always getting screwed over by the system.

Most estimates--and some of his detractors put a lot of effort into crunching the numbers--put his annual earnings at around that amount. And it's not like he's spending a ton of money on his business. Lately he's been replaying a lot of old games, and a number of the newer ones have been donated to him. And he complains from time to time about how old his equipment is (which is why people bought him the PS4 and the TV), so you know he's not spending money on that.

He could be doing so much better than he is. He's lost so many fans over the years, including a number of people who used to donate huge amounts to him, because he just can't treat people with respect. If someone asks a question he doesn't like or suggests something he doesn't agree with, he can't ever give a civil response; it's always something along the lines of "what a stupid fucking idea, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about." I'm pretty sure that a fair percentage of the people who make YouTube videos about him are former fans who got tired of his act. And he's so paranoid about people trolling him that anyone new in his stream chat risks getting banned for saying something he takes the wrong way--which is obviously a great way to grow a channel.

Just peeking in on his stream tonight, you get a good picture of why people don't like him. He's playing Scarface, a game he quit before and claims to absolutely hate, presumably because people have been asking him to play it again and he wants the views. He's bitching the entire time about how bad the game is and how much he hates it and how he doesn't want to play it anymore. And at one point he says he should stop playing it--he's not getting good views on YouTube and contributions are low tonight. Basically, he's playing a game he hates because he thinks it will be profitable, and he's mad because he's not getting the kind of money he expected. His content is getting so bad that it can barely even be enjoyed ironically anymore.

I think at this point he's realized he can do pretty much anything and his hardcore fanbase will keep him afloat, while the infamy he just did will give him sustained views from those who hate him. It's win-win for him. A feedback loop of deceit.
