Just finished overlord S3. Honestly liked the direction it was going in S2 better. Basically the show without demiurge is superior IMO. Still, I don't hate what it is now. It's kinda strange, all the parts about ains are the least interesting parts of the show. I think I just got tired of his overpoweredness.

Finished the second half of Saiki K season 2, which was something of a disappointment. I was watching on NFI and, maybe due to a connection error, the subs weren't always appearing for some of the interjections. And, as mentioned before, the sub in general was hard to keep track of everybody since characters would talk over each other and Asumi's dialogue was rapid-paced and went forever.

It's annoying since I liked the first half of the season. The shipwreck/deserted island was great, the fortune teller eventually grew on me, Rifuta had that hilarious rivalry with Teruhashi, etc. Meanwhile I watched the second half within the past week and I'm struggling to think of something I really liked other than maybe the Psychic Kids group gag and the story where Teruhashi and the fortuneteller run into Saiki's grandparents.

Goblin Slayer episode 1 is out and I just watched it. Never read the manga but it feels like a quality production and its every bit as brutal as expected. Definitely looking forward to more. Think I might watch a bunch of first eps today although I still do have 8 or so eps of BnH and 5 or so eps of that slave demon lord thing that I may or may not finish. Given how long the new SAO season is (4 cour) I might as well watch it weekly. The first season was actually one of the few I watched weekly back then.

All the anime I expected to perform well from researching some of them seem to be highly rated after their first episodes so thats a good sign.

Watching episode one of SAO: Alicization right after goblin slayer was intentionally scary. I actually really liked the set up and am pretty interested to see where this goes.

I Intend to also check out episode 1 of bunny girl, slime guy, and bloom into you. I'll probably wait for index to finish before watching it (and maybe rewatch the first two seasons since its been so long). Considering how down I was on this season a few days ago, I've really come around. Kinda of an odd season really. Several shows I really want to watch and then thats it, everything else seems far below for now. No middle ground.

I plan to. Seeing a lot of fantasy brutality lately with overlord S3 into goblin slayer into sorta the first half of the SAO S3's episode one (which is 47 minutes btw). Enjoying it quite a lot. Wish I could find a similar game to play. It's either bleak darkness and everything's dead with dark souls or PG fun time fantasy world for children as far as games go. No game seems to hit that grimgar, made in abyss or now goblin slayer level of life and color plus grim brutality, at least that I can think of. I guess something like FFT:WotL or tactics ogre: let us cling together are the closest but they are very plot/war focused with almost no sense of adventure. Why will no one make the games I want to play?

Watched episode 1 of bloom into you (I dropped the manga after a bit). I forgot just how much I fuckin hate the main girl. Like, I really despise this character and hope misfortune befalls her. Why the author chose to write about someone as annoying as her is beyond me. In the anime she has only briefly shown the depths of her awfulness but it gets worse. I might hate watch this but I doubt I'll get any legitimate enjoyment out of this. Why can't they make good yuri? Production quality wise it looks ok. A tiny bit of odd CGI hand at one point but mostly the characters look fine. The direction isn't anything special but its passable. Voice acting feels appropriate especially for the main girl (which is kind of an insult but she brought that hateability to life effectively).

Probably watch bunny girl next and not really feeling reincarnated slime guy anime today.

Goblin Slayer is climbing to the top of my queue. I might be more interested in Bloom Into You if it had not been snapped up by Hidive ... and if I did not keep running into fans who ragequit the manga despite initially enjoying it. That is not a good sign of things to come.

To be fair, I didn't initially enjoy the manga. The set up was worrying but there were ways it could have gone that would have been satisfying. Instead they just stayed stuck on main girls inability to feel "love" which is obviously at even a cursory glance just a case of not understanding what love is (she keeps describing it as expecting everything to get all shiny and for her to magically fly, like almost literally). She comes across feeling unrealistic or at the very least extremely dumb in a way thats not intended.

To make a better synopsis, its the story of a girl who expects love to feel like a shoujo manga and doesn't (for a very very long time) understand why it doesn't feel that way for her in real life. None of the other characters have the sense to bonk her in the head and say "yo, thats not how it is in real life, change your expectations dumbass". Other main girl (the senpai) is also a sociopath.

I ran into a similar issue with some yuri hentai VN recently as well. Why is it so hard to make 2 enjoyable female characters and then have them fall in love without making one for no reason hate the other one or act like a robot or decide they have to die or decide they are so unlovable that they just refuse to be with anyone? Regular romance figured out how to do it (occasionally). Just do the same shit but two girls. How fucking hard is it?!

The "best" yuri manga thats hailed as being so much better than everything is basically just one bitchy human and one reasonable human misunderstanding each other for 5+ hours of reading time before one finally develops a brain cell and says "hey, we both like each other, lets just stop being unreasonable bitches for like two seconds and get together" and then it works out perfectly.

But no. We can't have even that much ever again. They have to do their absolute best to make at least one of the girls utterly hateable so that I can't even want the two girls to end up together. It's infuriating.

It reminds of MMOs how it seems so constrained by the common tropes of the genre, but for no reason, making yuri or MMOs an extremely specific thing instead of a broad area with a variety of approaches. It's so strange to me because other genres don't have that problem. Even something like shonen that feels trapped in its genre conventions still manages to pump out stuff like hunterxhunter.

Meanwhile, I am watching people fight about the rape scenes from Goblin Slayer, and all I can think is that, y'know, we all knew that stuff was going to be in there when the anime adaptation was announced. How is it still shocking, then? It's like looking at a sign that says "There is FIRE in this room!" and opening the door and going, "Holy shit, there's fire in here!"

It's a visual novel. It does actually have some of the typical yuri ultra melodrama but it also has plenty of sweet and great yuri in there too. They also make it look like you can romance two characters but you actually don't have a choice and I was left with the one I liked the least of the two.

There's also some lesser VNs out there that do fine (sakura gamer is probably my favorite but even it isn't safe from melodrama, don't buy it though, the guy running that company is actually evil).

Oh yeah, I guess VA-11 Hall-A is yuri even though thats kind of a minor part. That was really good. It's just annoying that they feel like every yuri romance MUST contain melodrama. Bringing it back to my last post its like how every MMORPG MUST have hotbars and cooldowns for no reason.

Index 3 and SAO 3 are looking promising AF, will probably be the best stuff out there for the season. I'll try to make some time to watch Goblin Slayer later today, which seems to be the other competitor in the opinion of a few people I know..

Started on Overlord since S3 is done and I hadn't seen S2 so I just started the series from the beginning, I just finished epi 8 of S3 and I can see that this is where I think a lot of people started thinking differently of Ains, for me though it's just made it hard to find someone to root for :/

Watched the first episode of the Conception anime. It was ... pretty much the hot mess that was expected. And now I understand why the first game didn't get localized. There's no Classmating in this. You want your Star Child, you're straight-up getting your freak on. With your harem of a dozen 'maidens'. Several of whom are lolis.

I tried watching overlord yesterday but it was kinda cringeworthy tbh, and i gave up after the first episode. I may try again later and see if it gets better ...but blah.

I couldn't watch SOA season 2 (actually even the second half of season 1 when they had wings etc was meh to me. Do they ever go back to a more traditional game that doesn't include guns or flying etc? I liked the first world, but nothing else.

Still looking for something good to watch, season 2 of Castlevania is coming out soon at least. I may give Faery Tale or The sins one (think that had sinbad in it) another try, neither grabbed my attention but I didn't give them enough time I think.

Also was only somewhere in season 2 of my hero academy so I could go back to that I guess. Got spoiled by the episode of Goblin Slayer though as it was similar to Grimgar...which I really liked. I want more like that.

So far only ones like that I have really seen are SoA season 1 (first half), Grimgar and now the 1 episode of Goblin Slayer. *sigh*

Kinda but not really in season 2. After they're done with the guns, they go back to being faires for 2 arcs (the first being really bad but short at least). But I gotta say that the last arc of season 2 is 100% worth it. Its about the first world + wings, but centered around a new character that literally carries the whole season on its back. Also Asuna takes the MC spot while Kirito rests on the side lines for a change.

As for season 3... I'm still trying to make heads of tails out of that first episode, but Alicization seems to be about a more traditional fantasy world. And they did made a lot of references to the technology used in Accel World again, which is a huge plus in my book.

tbh, I've mostly watched clips. Have yet to actually see an episode. Most of the stuff I've watched has been great, but they also have some fanservice-y junk.

I have not seen wolf children (have not heard of it). I like a variety of Anime, but really like the DND type stuff right now. I watched old school anime back in the day, and then Dragon Ball Z in the 2000's, and recently tri-gun, One punch man, Grimgar and Ash, SoA (first season...I may just skip the second until they get back to the first world...I really don't like the flying though). I liked the new castlevania on netflix as well, and a few others.

Tried a bunch of ones like Seven Deadly Sins (not ex's), and Faery Tale. Also watched the anime (and real live action) versions of death note. Watched only the first season of Bleach (also the live action after that...liked the live action more, reverse for death note).

Watched some of one of the Fates...think there is a bunch...and a few other random ones over the last few years, but that is about it.

It might be that the lyrics don't really flow well in english, or the one doing the cover has a pretty mediocre voice, or sometimes, you can tell that there really wasn't a whole lot of effort put into it.

I'll check that out when I can, but that's a subject I've been thinking about for a while now. Mainly because I've been listening to a lot of artists that are bilingual; Dreams Come True, the brilliant green, VAMPS, Crystal Kay, etc.

A lot of them have not only done songs in full English, but also English versions of a Japanese song, and they're very hit-or-miss. From what I've seen the best versions are the ones that don't try to go for a direct translation and just keep the spirit of the lyrics. (That's actually how I feel about anime dubs as well.) Like you said, that and the singers phoning in the vocals are the main things that drag down an English version.
