you know what always got me? people can't remember that Spider-Man has a hyphen in it but Venom spells it out perfectly WITH the hyphen IN WEBBING in Spider-Man 3

Yeah, it's kind of a pet peeve of mind when people spell it without the hyphen.

On a related note, is it Mega Man or Megaman? I prefer the former for him and every robot in the series except for Protoman, where it looks better as one word.

It's officially Mega Man and Proto Man, but apparently the official Japanese name is Rockman, so there's a few English Mega Man logos out there that spell the name out the Japanese way.

Glad to have those takes documented. The other weird thing I want on record was how, when the Rivals bracket was launched, he said

- it didn't matter whether Mario/Sonic was officially "banned" or not, because Mario/Bowser got way more nominations

When if he'd confirmed it was allowed and put it on the suggestion list, the entire board would have rallied behind it and gotten everyone we know to support it as well... plus lots of casual users would have started to type "Mario" and seen both options and decided to go with Sonic instead of Bowser. That's not to say it would have been a guaranteed win for Sonic, but at least the users would have decided for themselves (and I bet it would have been close).

I mention that because I think he's going to say the same thing about new characters, "Spider-Man and Darth Vader didn't even get as many nominations as Chloe from Life is Strange, clearly there's not much interest in adding them" when in reality those two plus Batman/Goku/some others would have earned pretty high seeds if given a fair shake.

And to go along with the point Leon was trying to make, the fourth and final reason you have to tilt your head in puzzlement when it comes to SB is

- he thought "Worst Video Game Character" was a good idea

We don't expect him to be a Contest expert, we don't demand he post on Board 8 every day... but the above four takes are pretty wild for someone who's been running this website and administrating all its Contests for 11 years.

For context, that thread's about to hit 30k upvotes with a strong 93% ratio but those numbers don't come close to doing it justice in terms of total eyeballs. TIL is the second most popular community on the site (behind only AskReddit) with 20 million+ daily visitors, and the L-Block topic has been in the #1 position for the last 4 hours. If I had to estimate I'd guess about 400,000 unique users have seen the title in that time.

...which makes it a real shame how there's zero mention of the new Contest on the front page right now. A little interest/nomination boost would have been nice.

I'm all for getting human Pokemon characters in at the expense of actual Pokemon because they're more likely to get eliminated early

In all fairness, if there was ever a good case to be made for human Pokemon characters, it would be someone limited to Gen 1 because that is by far the strongest generation. And in Misty's case, the best candidate to receive a boost from the Gen 1 anime as a fairly good number of people who played Gen 1 also watched the anime as well.

Out of the human characters to have appeared in contest, Red has proven himself to be a high midcarder and the strongest human character we've seen, while Blue is also a fairly solid midcarder but not quite as strong as Red. N is the weakest of the 3 human characters to be in a contest, but the Gen 1 factor will practically ensure Misty is no where near N's level and she's also a very recognizable character in the anime with plenty of screen time.
