I feel like you could take half of these complaints about Steve, change the name to "Link," and nothing would change

I mean I'm not a huge Link fan, but he very clearly has a role in a plot and the different Links have different backstories and character motivations, even if they usually boil down to "save person". Link is a character. Steve really isn't.

I think it's worth noting that even the main character of Minecraft: Story Mode... still isn't Steve.

Steve's not even an avatar, he's just a skin. I think he'd be a super cool addition (sorry!) but that's because Minecraft is a cool game; it has nothing to do with Steve, per se.

Link's not incredible, but at least Link has a voice and like... a face that emotes that give him some degree of personality. (I don't think Steve has either of those but I'm not sure. it's been a long time since I played Minecraft)

That said, I don't think there's only a Pokemon and Ken left. If there's only two characters left, I have a hard time seeing it being a Pokemon. There's probably another Smash Direct to come to go over the hidden game mode, so likelihood would be that they're saving somebody big for it.

It would be very poorly planned if they blew their load early and saved only Ken and a pokemon for later. They'll probably have at least one big announcement before the game comes out, something weird and major.

Yea having Ridley and K Rool in shows that they KNOW what they're doing, I doubt they'd screw it up with a weak ending. I mean Incineorar would be a stellar ending for me personally but I'm not blind, I know that wouldn't cut for the majority of people. Or any Pokemon announcement really.

Incineroar has been predicted by absolutely everyone. I'm really hoping Sakurai goes with either Tapu Koko or something unexpected.

There's been at least one new pokemon each game. Two, if you count Charizard in 4 (who was reintroduced). Pokemon is the absolute safest series to guess that there will be a newcomer from.

I was going to say that Mario has had at least one new entrant in every game except this one but I forgot we actually did get a new Mario character

Wario is a Mario character who was popular enough to get his own sub-series and so Smash gives him the sub-series logo so as to not flood the game with Mushroom logos. Same for Yoshi.

I dont think Id call Wario a Mario character. Hes established enough of his own identity outside of Mario games, that hes become his own thing. Same with Yoshi and Dr. Mario. And maybe Toad someday.

A majority of Wario appearances are still in Mario games. Like, when Wario shows up in every Mario spin-off, or playable in stuff like SM64 DS, nobody thinks it's weird or goes "Oh look a Wario guest appearance"

Atleast with Donkey Kong, they mixed it up a little bit and did stuff like make him not a playable character in a few Mario Party games and such. Wario is in pretty much every Mario ensemble game, and often even in a "story" role.

Wario is literally in every Mario Party, every Mario Kart but 1, every Mario sports game, etc. etc.

Wario's standalone games are seemingly always teetering between "on life support" (warioware games still happen but the series is no longer in its prime) and "dead" (where's my fucking wario land 5, nintendo)

meanwhile Wario is consistently invited into every Mario ensemble game

He's more a Mario character than not right now

Same for Yoshi, same for Toad

although I admit that Donkey Kong is a very interesting comparison for Wario

since DK also has his own series where he's much more well established but whenever Mario throws a party he's also invited

shrug

DK still always feels like a crossover from DKC whenever he shows up though. Wario doesn't feel like that

Daisy doesn't have anything else. I would say that Donkey Kong is a Mario character if he didn't have his own unique series. It's possible DK has been in more Mario spinoffs than official DK games, I'm not sure. Point is that Wario has a completely unique series that has nothing in common with Mario games other than one character, and the same is true of DK. Daisy's got nothing.
