Snake wasn't the greatest arc but at worst I would say it was an inoffensive kind of boring. It definitely doesn't deserve last place on every ranking by default imho

69. Your Graduation
Modern Baseball
prof (10/10)

One positive concerning Chain Girl is that it was in a different language. So if the lyrics were extremely awkward and cringey, I have no idea. But when something's in English, I don't get that pleasure. "Your Graduation" by Modern Baseball is probably typical stuff for the pop punk genre (Which, sorry prof, is generally just abysmal), but it's not a genre I typically like to step into, so I can't really compare. This is probably the most high school song I've ever heard written, and that is not a good thing, because high school sucked, and anything that makes me remember high school is dumb (I'm obviously being sarcastic guys). But as a grown ass adult, this song just feels uncomfortable to listen to, just simply due to how much angst these other grown ass men have about their love lives. But it wouldn't make it this low just for shitty lyrics if everything else was good. So obviously, I hated other aspects. The melody is reminiscent from basically every shitty pop punk band from the 2000s. They all had a song or ten that sounded exactly like this. Except most had actually somewhat decent vocalists that didn't sound like the dude who sang "Video Games". That's actually just being rude to my boys in Black Out, since they were like, 10. Yet they wrote a song far more creative and meaningful than Modern Baseball did here.

But Orange Mint is worse apparently.

Steins;Gate Zero beated. Pretty good IMO, though it did fall off a bit after the first half. It reached the first ending of the game around that point, IIRC, and it started to falter. Zero is much less linear than the original SZ, so getting to one ending and switching to another route was a bit awkward. Like things built up towards the climax, and then they had to de-escalate for quite a while. The last few eps were still pretty cool again at least, but while I felt early on that the anime was a much superior experience to the VN (partly because it added more Amadeus and just seemed to handle things very competently in general), I'm not so sure about that anymore. Still on the same level though.

2. Steins;Gate Zero
3. Encouragement of Climb S3
4. Planet With
5. Chio's School Road
6. Harukana Receive

After some consideration, I think I'm going to try and clear out my backlog of half-finished anime before starting anything new next season. Perhaps this will finally give me the incentive to finish things I kinda like but never feel like watching. Plus the MAL episode total for my account is off by 2 episodes vs what my paper notes tell me it should be and I don't understand why. Clearing out the watching section will make solving that conundrum easier.

Only 389 episodes to go! I guess my traditional new season first episode thoughts will be delayed by a month or so.

Double Decker is next, which I think already came out as a preview and nobody gave a shit, but we'll see. REdriveD started it with it's 4 episode launch but man have I not heard good things.

Well, I've finished the last two 1/10 anime of the season! I acknowledge that I'm a crazy person for sticking with four anime that I outright hated this season (these two plus Ragnarok and Island) but at least I have fresh junk weighing down the bottom of my overall ranking, I guess.

Lord of Vermilion: The Crimson King was just... my god this was terrible. All of the characters were one-dimensional morons, the setting was a nonsensical, boring jumble, and the plot was impossible to follow with poorly explained motivations constantly shifting and whole new factions appearing out of thin air. So, a bunch of people disappeared in a huge disaster, Tokyo has been sealed off by a mysterious red fog, monsters are appearing everywhere and... like, you'd think this would matter, wouldn't you? How are people dealing with this supernatural apocalypse? Well, from what few glimpses of regular people the anime showed they're... living life like normal. Universities are still holding classes. Piano concerts still fill up with well-dressed people excited to see the show. Resources like food in the sealed-off city aren't a concern. Just... ugh, I had a whole plan to outline about every element about this anime that was terrible and I'm already sick of talking about Lord of Vermilion. Easily the worst anime of the season. The only reason it isn't the worst anime of the year is because the one anime below it, FranXX, at least had the potential to be good and failed harder than I could've imagined. Vermilion was a pointless dumpster fire from start to finish, but it was never going to be anything more so really, the fault is with me for watching it in the first place.

Holmes of Kyoto was also terrible, but it was a far more generic kind of terrible. It sold itself as having antique-related mysteries, yet the mysteries were all poorly thought out or boring and few had any real relation to antiques. It also sold itself as having a low-key romance between the two leads, yet they had no chemistry and were never truly romantic. There was also a depressing lack of variety about this show. Damn near every episode featured a fancy party, it was so boring.

Finished a few shows this week.

Asobi Asobase
I don't really have a lot to say about this show. The humor style is probably not everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed this. Easily in my top 5 anime comedies, though I generally like comedies less than other types of shows so that only puts it on my top 50 or so anime. Maeda was easily the highlight of the show even though the main trio is all great also.

Steins;Gate 0
What a ride this entire series has been. If you forced me to make a decision I'd probably say this wasn't quite as good as the original anime which had slightly better emotional high points, but they're both top tier anime in their own right. One thing that really impressed me about S;G 0 though is how much I loved the sci-fi elements themselves in this story. (minor spoilers for S;G and S;G 0) While Steins;Gate is definitely one of the smarter time travel stories out there that I know of and generally has solid execution, it's essential core is that of a pretty basic tried-and-true time loop story. Steins;Gate 0 though felt like it had a lot more to it. There's multiple different world lines that influence each other in substantial ways; there's multiple time periods that play important roles in the plot, and the presence of more than one "bad guy" faction also spiced things up a bit. I do agree with what Mac seemed to say in that I liked the first half of the anime a bit more than the second half. The first managed to deliver on all of the tension and emotional weight that the original series had, but the second half felt like it was missing...something I can't quite put my finger on. Also just want to say Maho is amazing and might even be my #2 favorite character in the series now. (Okabe is undisputed #1 especially after S;G 0, with Kurisu/Mayuri/Maho all vying for 2nd)

(Larger spoilers for Steins;Gate 0) Also I just want to say that even though I'm not sure it needed to happen at all, the post-credits scene of the last episode made me feel some kind of something. In the first episode of Steins;Gate this guy is busy making delusional monologues at a cartoon character on his computer screen and now he's in literally 18,000 BC stepping out of a time machine looking like an actual god. Really drives home how far he's gone to protect the ones he cares about.

My one remaining hope for this series is that in the Steins Gate worldline Professor Leskinen can finally find his Japanese shaman girls.

My Hero Academia Season 3
Generally speaking this show hasn't changed much since the first two season, but in terms of the actual quality of the story I feel like it keeps getting better. The Training Camp/Hideout Raid arcs were probably the high point of the series so far for a number of reasons which I probably already talked about. The Hero License arc wasn't at the same level unfortunately, but I did still really enjoy it. And honestly it's better than the relatively weak arcs of the first and second season anyways, so I'm not complaining. Also the Hero License arc gave us Deku vs. Bakugo which is probably my favorite fight of the series now? I don't even know anymore though there's so many great ones. Also this upcoming arc looks pretty hype. I'm not totally sold on Overhaul who hasn't done a lot yet, but Mirio and the rest of the Big Three are already fantastic.

Oh man DanMachi mobile is running a fun Halloween event with titles parodying zombie movies/shows. The little hub was given a Halloween makeover too and like everything in this game is fully voice acted so thats cool too. Not really fond of the characters they picked for Halloween, but the outfits are neat. Raul is literally a fucking ghostbuster so thats pretty amazing. The amount of effort put into this game is pretty nuts since I dont think its making bank like Dokkan, Legends or Grand Order
