to what extent?

i'd say she's crazy if she's 1/1000th native american and she talks about this as if it means anything.

What exactly are you alleging against Warren here?

that she's not actually of native american descent?

I'm just trying to see how you get from there to her being a "lunatic."

AFAIK the story is that she didn't use it to get hired or whatever and that after the fact Harvard promoted her heritage as a show of its "diversity." She says she didn't know they did that and got it from informal conversations she had with staff about her background. Now you can question the plausibility of that, but IIRC her story has been that she had a great-great grandmother of Native American descent (and I think a genealogy society turned up some stuff that supports that).

Every story about national politics makes candidates who need to run on local issues more vulnerable because now they get crowded out.

Either way don't start running for president BEFORE the mid terms

Also, I know this is a complete subject change but this story was so crazy I had to mention it since we have an UPDATE.

Flordia Supreme Court ruled that Rick Scott can't enact his last minute court packing scheme.

The backstory on this is insane. The kind of insane you only find in Florida: https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/09/rick-scott-plans-to-pack-the-florida-supreme-court-after-his-term-ends.html

The whole thing is nuts but as a rough summary: On the same day the FL Governor is sworn in 3/7 of the Florida Supreme Court judges have their terms end (All left-leaning). Scott was arguing that the judges have their terms end at midnight but that his term doesn't end until his successor is sworn in (usually noon) and thus he could appoint in that 12 hour window. This in spite of the fact that the Florida constitution says the governor's term starts at midnight (and there is precedent for being sworn in at midnight.) There was also the bonus factor that if Scott won the Senate race he'd have to resign as governor a few days prior and this scheme would be enacted by his Lt. Gov. And there's a judicial selection committee that is controlled by Scott appointees that could stack the deck further.

aaaaaanyway, like I said, the Florida Supreme Court has ruled that he can't do this - provided the new governor chooses to be sworn in at midnight. Which seemed obvious as hell based on the state constitution but they were seemingly trying to go for it anyway. That judicial selection committee is still a thing though.

Its a family story thats getting blown out of proportion.

There is a 100% chance, assuming you grew up with them, you grew up being told by your parents family stories that may or may not be true, but you believed it and have repeated it to others.

The straight-up facts are that theres no evidence she actually gained anything by it, so who cares? Move on. Lasa calling her a lunatic for it is classic Lasa overreacting in a failed attempt to be reasonable, the same way he said most people in this topic confuse Red Sox Devils advocacy for trolling.

What's bothering me more about Warren is less that she was told a family story and believed it and spread it around (couldn't care less) and more that she really seems invested in throwing counter-punches over it and trying to get in Trump's face about it, which seems really petty and pointless and isn't going to lead anywhere productive. It's just bad politicking to pick a battle like this.

Yeah, like...I can tell you family stories about the ancestry from both my parent's lineages.

Republicans making a big deal of it is unbelievably stupid.

But responding to Republicans and acting like this is somehow a valid scandal worthy of a DNA test by a distinguished geneticist is...not very politically savvy. Like...this seems like a classic case of "don't feed the trolls" and Warren just fed the trolls. Even if the DNA test had come up negative, there's still no scandal here; like...if her mother was wrong about her ancestry, why would this be a scandal? But actually taking the DNA test and having a big press release about it gives the issue some level of perceived legitimacy which it never had in the past.

I dont remotely care about it outside Warren lying to get into what was it? Harvard Law? Something or other?

This isn't how it worked, to my knowledge. It wasn't "oh hey maybe if I claim minority status I'll be hired!" She was hired without that being reported or taken into consideration. All the people that hired her said he was eminently qualified and that wasn't on her application.

It was however, later put on by Harvard when they were trying to show off how they weren't all white people. Essentially they went around and asked people if they had any minority ancestry and she was like "oh yeah sure" based on the old family story of hers. This is still bad because 1) rather than actually hiring POC if that was important to Harvard, they were hoping they could just find someone who was a 1/16th something and call that a day and 2) Warren clearly hasn't faced discrimination because of her race so she probably should've known better than to let Harvard boast about this even if she didn't mean in maliciously.

Again, someone can correct me if I'm wrong as I admittedly didn't follow this very close because it bores me, but the impression I got wasn't "she lied to get hired" but rather "she/Harvard lied or exaggerated to make their own faculty look more diverse".

@MoogleKupo141, you asked how I knew this woman was a leftist. Its because I live in Princeton, which is about as blue as it gets in NJ. The religion of white women around here is virtue signaling identity politics to defend black men while wanting nothing to do with black men. The looks my buddies get for hanging out with me are ridiculous, to the point where they legitimately fear having 911 called on them if we hang out in Princeton. So I drive to where they live to chill. There is no doubt in my mind this is how it is in other blue areas, and its now come out that this was St Louis.
