In honor of all the new Raildex stuff being announced I decided to finally go ahead and start watching Index. (I have already seen both Railgun seasons, so I already know somewhat what's going on.)

Biribiri still the best.

Index is also a noticeably more entertaining character than her cameo in Railgun might indicate, but she's still not near the level of Misaka.

Index herself is so annoying. Index the series would be so much better without her because shes basically just used for the same boring comedy over and over

To be fair here, "noticeably more entertaining than her cameo in Railgun" is a very very low bar to set.

I'm not saying she's an amazing character, but she hasn't been a deterrent to the show yet either. (now as of episode 2)

Index the character is like almost universally disliked I think. At least everywhere Ive seen people talk about the series it seems like most dont like her at all. Finding an Index fan is about as rare as finding a Code Geass Nina fan or something

Nina is a universally hated character. Like she tops lists. I've always found it fascinating that code geass is such a good show with having a cast where most people seem to actively dislike everyone but lelouch.

Roba is one of like 3 people I think Ive ever seen claim to like Index. I never see anybody say anything good about her, but her role is usually small enough to probably prevent even more hatred on the level of other bad characters

I watched through most of Lost Song today. While I'm not quite done it yet, I want to talk about it now while it's fresh in my mind. I don't think I've seen anyone here mention this at all, but this was one of the ones from Spring that was gobbled up by Netflix so I guess that isn't a surprise. It being so overlooked is a real shame, too, because this felt legitimately special to me.

Like, there's stuff in Lost Song to nitpick if you want to nitpick and it certainly won't be for everyone. Some key elements seem designed to appeal to me specifically, and even with that I'd only give it an 8/10 or so. The way it explored certain aspects of the setting and the way it used music both reminded me of Sound of the Sky, for example, and I don't think anyone else here liked that as much as I did. It reminded me of other things and went places I really loved, too, but mentioning those would be huge spoilers.

There was still a solid foundation that I think would appeal to everyone, though. The whole feel of it reminded me of an SNES-era RPG since parts of it felt like gathering party members. That meant that parts of it were generic, like how some of the bad guys are bad seemingly just because they're the bad guys (maybe that changes by the end, I dunno, I'm sad I can't stay up late enough to finish it but I hope the ending is good). Still, it's a solid fantasy world with likable characters and a plot that went places I honestly wasn't expecting. If anyone is in the mood for a fantasy adventure thingy, maybe give it a try. It would be neat to see other thoughts about it.

I went and read the Detroit Metal City manga. I'd heard from camps saying that there was no point in reading it because the series starts to suck after the content the anime covers, and others saying all the best parts came after the anime. I think I understand both sides now. There are essentially three main jokes the series uses that most of its humor is based off of: Krauser doing crazy stuff which is inherently funny, Negishi and Krauser being the same person which gives us some funny contrast, and Negishi being totally pathetic. The manga goes off on tangents a lot more than the anime, which is a good thing (Deathism, the "scat metal" band is ridiculously over the top and hilarious), so there's plenty of supplementary humor there too. Unfortunately, while the first two ingredients are still there and hilarious when they happen, there's a lot more of the third. It's used fairly lightly in the anime and early on, so it works to keep things fresh, but eventually it feels more sad and pathetic than funny. Sometimes I feel like I just don't get the joke. The anime might be a bit of an improvement over the manga for the parts it adapts too, since the music is awesome and the directing is super stylish. Regardless of all that, I did enjoy the manga a lot. I laughed a lot at it, which is what really matters.

Actually there was quite a bit of BL and fujoshi talk in this episode. Some of the designs are like stereotypical too. Morbidly obese overseas otaku XFD. I might watch it weekly since its short if the other episodes are entertaining anyways

Himote House ep1 - uhh this is kinda hard to look at visually and was also kinda dumb too. Too bad they couldnt just use the nice art the ED has for the show itself. It didnt even get to the psychic powers part until the end and theyre basically all just references to other shounen characters. The Jojo reference is nice at least. There was a part where the 5 girls all showed off their panties so they wouldnt get confused on laundry day and then they did a best kissing sounds contest at the end. The Pharaoh example they used kinda reminded me of Cu. A Pokemon reference popped up too. Probably not watching more of this one, but it sure was uh unique feeling

Im like 10mins into Goblin Slayer ep1 and XFD this might be trying harder than Akame ga Kills first few episodes

Goblin Slayer ep1 - so what do low level adventurers even do if goblins can slaughter them? Like what are they supposed to even fight to rank up? If this is a common thing why do they even think they can take on goblins at all? So many questions that might be thinking too much for this kind of show. It was entertaining, but also sure felt like it was trying hard to set all the grimdark up. Also the rape wasnt nearly as bad as I wouldve thought from what people were saying. Like that was pretty low tier offensive compared to other anime rape scenes there have been.

minor Goblin slayer ep2 No one with high enough rank wants to do goblin killing jobs because they think it's below them, so newbies end up doing it. And they don't always fail, just throw enough bodies and eventually the goblin nest gets cleared.

For me it's not even that the rape is like extra explicit or anything, it's more....it just seemed super unnecessary. Like it was added for a cheap shock. I'm not a fan of rape in any medium, and here it just seemed extra unneeded. The goblins were already slaughtering the party, that was more than enough to get the point across. Anyway, I guess you could say that for any rape scene, so hey maybe rape shouldn't be used as a story device in general but that's another conversation.

I agree with Bane that rape shouldn't be used as a plot point to infer villainy in general, but I also agree that that's not a discussion for the anime topic.

Radiant ep1 - holy fuck this is one of the worst OPs Ive heard in a long time. The MCs voice is a lot younger than I expected him to sound too based on the art Ive seen. Elephant cow hybrid creature stampede. This definitely gives off familiar shounen vibes which makes sense since its inspired by them. Not bad overall. That OP is just awful though. Definitely skipping that every episode

There are 2 notable french shounen anime and Radiant is clearly not the winner of that fight.
