World of Warcraft

Final Fantasy Tactics if I get to experience it in the state I originally played the game.

Nowadays I wouldn't have enough time to fully appreciate Final Fantasy Tactics for its gameplay and let's be honest the plot ain't nothin to write home about so I'd probably rather just pick some VN or something since I could get through them and experience them fully even with the amount of time I have for video games these days. Fate/Stay Night was good let's just go with that.

So many games I want to say for this, but If I can only choose one I guess I gotta go with my favorite game ever, Resident Evil Remake. To recapture that original terror, that thrill of a classic title absolutely transformed to extraordinary heights, that sweet mystery of exploration and backtracking, would be entirely unmatched for me.

This isn't a very good topic.

What if your cousin comes over to your house and brings over the video game for you that you desperately wanted to play? What if you at least got a demo out of the experience at E3 or at another gaming convention?

Some games have transferable saves and multiple save files like Super Mario 64. What would be the joy of playing THAT game in the first place?

You could play someone else's file that they never bother deleting with he or she collecting all of the 128 stars and doing all of that hard work for you already.

Probably The Witcher 3. I love everything about the world and want more of it, but some of the magic would be lost if I were to just go through it again. A lot of my fun with that game was exploring and finding new things, which isn't something I'd really want to do again in a replay.

With games like FFX and FFVII, part of why I like them so much comes from the nostalgia, replaying them, and reminiscing about my favourite moments. It almost feels like I grow to like them more every time I go back to them, so I don't think I'd want to start over.

Actually maybe MGS2. It was my favourite game ever when I first played it in 2003, and that was without even playing the Tanker section. I was way too young to truly grasp how great it was and there was no way of knowing how prescient it would be. My love for that game has deepened significantly over the last few years so if I played it for the first time now, it might be an even bigger rush

That said all these games are parts of series that I've played, so if i was playing RE4 for the "first time" I'd still have played RE5 and 6 which would water down the experience like MGS4/3 would water down 2.

Maybe XIII then. Or The Last Of Us. Or the entire Mass Effect Trilogy if that counts.

Answering this question incorrectly, but I started making a list.

A lot of my answers will also require traveling back in time to when the games were new, because part of the appeal was how novel the gameplay and graphics were. Or at least the faults were more forgivable then

Narratively driven games get bonus points, because I dont get a lot of enjoyment out of replaying them- the mystery is gone. Playing them again "fresh" has the greatest comparative benefit

ff7, ff6, mgs, knights of the old republic 1/2, sonic adventure, starcraft: brood war, mass effect trilogy, super Mario 64, super Mario bros 2/3, halo, portal 1/2, witcher 3, chrono trigger, maybe dark souls, morrowind, maybe assassin's creed 1/2/brotherhood. Escape velocity: override.

Donkey Kong country. Star wars: droidworks. Zoombinis. Star wars episode 1. Heroes of might and magic 3. Spyro, maybe.

Anything involving those ps1 demo discs.
