Throwing it out there that DT Randy Starks (87) is still available (DT #22 in the league). I see there are some DT needy teams and I'd be looking for about a 2nd rounder for him. I can trade him to the AI but thought I'd give users a last chance at him before I do that.

Also willing to let OLB Galette (77) go for around a 3rd rounder. That's OLB 63 in the league so a fringe OLB2 but he is only 27.

I'm just going to PM people as I guess not everyone reads this topic. Could be that nobody is interested of course!

And hopefully I don't get more than one taker.

Whilst looking for trade partners I noticed that the majority of the Top 14 in the draft were weak or below average at that DT/MLB tandem (Bucs who had a retirement at MLB and Hawks being the exception. Bills being an odd in between case of having an elite DT1 but below average supporting cast)

I think rather than it being a DT/MLB issue, it's likely a symptom of a weak defense on the whole that causes ratings drops / lack of development across the board. I know KCF has always said the game is slanted towards Defense and the run game but I didn't think it would be that glaring.

All the successful teams have a strong defense but that's easy to say because they typically have a strong everything. KCF may be able to give examples of stifling defenses and weak offenses being successful.

I'd be interested to know if we have any instances of an elite offense and weak defense succeeding too.

That post fucked me up for some reason because it made me think wow we have this project that's unique to us and no one else will ever know about it but we have full levels of world building and depth that we have established and its its own unique universe

And it got me thinking what it were all just part of some kids sim

So for the Jags to sign everyone they want, they will be in negative cap territory. They have excess at G, DT, and DE. The Vikings have need at two of those positions, so they were an excellent fit.

Love and Lewis are making like $8 mil to be backups. Kelly is likely in his final season, and while Love projects to have potential long-term value, the Jags have the much younger Clint Boling who can handle backup G duties. Robertson has been a mainstay, but he's been declining in rating for a couple seasons now, and the Jags have a DT six years younger and just four points lower.

Best is the prize return coming to the Jags. He is 25 and still under control for two seasons via the RFA tender. Jags cannot have Orlovsky as the backup to Tebow and the 27-year-old Stafford on the last year of his contract can be given a trial run to see if he is the long-term backup there. Walker is on the low RFA tender and offers the Jags a super cheap swing tackle for their phenomenal starting duo.

The veteran Vikings part ways with a few of their youth, including potential long-term starter in Best, but that is the price to pay for older, starter-worthy talent for a team built to win now.

The Jags have $14.99 mil going out and $7.74 mil coming in. This coupled with UFA contracts would leave the Jags with just a single roster hole and acceptable cap space, giving them no pressure entering the draft and plenty of flexibility within it. They are aware of the cap penalty associated with this, which should be mitigated with future cap increase, expiring contracts, and expected retirements.

Well this is the part of the season where you reshape your team and has the most user input.

Once we are in season obviously we like to see how our teams do and results but from a user standpoint it is very much a stand back and see where the dice falls kind of thing. There's far less you can do in season than offseason. Whereas draft time / free agency is where you get lots of new players in and set up your team for the year. There's more trades and you get to see what everyone else is doing too. You get analysis from users as well.

Draft board time is where you are full of hope and get to see lots of new incoming players and how they slot in. Like I have a ton of holes and will be looking to fill them with draft picks. So the board release is kind of when I can see if that's possible by what is projected on the board.

My favorite time of year is actually stat PMs and rating changes (which is why the break between seasons is so hard). This is also why I try to make a lot of live sims, not only because it's fun to chat in there and to see how everything goes but because that's where i get my stats and I try keep track of how my players are doing.

This may also be partially fueled by the fact that I know I am very unlikely to make the superbowl and getting new players / developing them and the team is the goal of the season

So 14.1m cap space, 7 holes, 8 draft picks. Sounds doable although some of those holes are very expensive holes. I do have a cuttable 6m contract but it would be nice if I could stay under cap without eating that 1.1m in dead money.

All KCF sees is that red banner at the top of the spreadsheet for both Ranlom and Scare teams so they are basically the same person!

I did think it was a little odd to see Scare talk about attending live sims, award ceremony, and playoffs since he doesn't do any of those things, but I chalked it up to Scare desiring to get more involved.

Live NFL Draft

I already mentioned this at the beginning of the offseason, but this is a 7-round affair where teams select college players. There are 32 picks in each round for a total of 224 selections overall. We break this down into three real-life days. Rounds 1 and 2 are on the first day and is in the evening. Rounds 3 and 4 are on the second day and begins in the afternoon. Rounds 5 through 7 are the final day and also occur in the afternoon. Please note that I live in the eastern time zone and refer to the time of days using my time zone.

In one of the posts below, I will include the draft order again as well as updated draft pick ownerships. I only include ownership of other teams' picks. If you wish to attend the draft at all, I require that you own a Google account and either PM me or post here the email associated with it so that I can include you as having permission in the spreadsheet and you can sign in and enter the chat function which is located near the top right of the spreadsheet.

NFL Draft Rules

1. When it is your time to pick, post your selection in the spreadsheet

2. 5 minute pick limit, which starts when I say something along the lines of "X team is on the clock"

3. If no pick has been made after 5 minutes, I will select the player for you

4. If a user is not present at the time they are on the clock, they will be auto-drafted via rule #3 until they notify me

5. I have full veto/approval authority over trades involving draft picks during the draft and unless you attend the live draft at any point, all trades involving draft picks must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to the start of the draft.

Queue - You give me a list of players in order of priority. It can be as few as one and as many as the 250+ prospects that will eventually be in that sheet.

Draft Strategy - You give me a vague or specific set of instructions on how to draft your players. An example of this would be

Draft best available CB in 1st round
Draft best available player in 2nd-4th rounds
Draft best available player for a position of need in 5th-7th rounds.

Conditionals - You give me a list of conditionals. Unlike the other two examples, this one is best used if you only think that you will be unavailable for a single round. Using DE Chandler Jones as an example:
1. Draft DE Chandler Jones
2. Draft the best available offensive lineman available with a 1st round grade
3. Draft the best available player for a position of need
