Manchin is a moderate who has a spine. That's very different from a leftist without a spine who gives away the farm to Republicans in the name of bipartisanship. Democrats would do well to start noticing the difference.

Trump: Well thats true. They werent actors. They werent actors. Well no its true. Do you think they were actors? They werent actors. They didnt come from Hollywood. These were peoplethis was an actual, you know, it happened a few days ago and

Acosta: They are hundreds of miles away, though. They are hundreds and hundreds of miles away. That is not an invasion.

Trump: Honestly, I think you should let me run the country, you run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better. Thats enough. Thats enough.

Acosta: One more question

Trump: Thats enough. Thats enough.

Acosta: If I may go ahead, on the Russia investigation, are you concerned that you may have indictments

Trump: I am not concerned about anything with the Russia investigation because its a hoax. Thats enough, put down the mic.

Acosta: Are you worried about indictments coming down in this investigation?

Trump: Ill tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person and should not be working for CNN. Go ahead.

Acosta: I think thats unfair.

Trump: You are very rude. The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible and the way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldnt treat people that way.

The problem with the press is that they have log ago shed professionalism for sensationalism and doing whatever they can to make a story.

At the end of the day, while CNN should have a right to be there, that specific reporter doesn't. If he cannot follow directions and maintain professionalism, he doesn't have to be allowed there.

He won't be the first or the last president to be absolutely livid or annoyed with the press. He may have responded the strongest, but it is hardly the first to respond sharply. No matter the political affiliation.

To emphasize how incredible Tester's win is, 538 last year complied a list of senators and how often they voted with Trump. Then, estimated how often they should vote with Trump based on the partisanship of their state.

A lot of Democrats that got picked off yesterday were disproportionately voting against Trump. Nelson was a measly -13.8. McCaskill was a -38.4. Donnelly was a -29.8. Heitkamp was a -37.8. A lot of those a very out of line with their states.

Tester was a whopping -48.2. No one else even comes CLOSE. The next closes is Sherrod Brown (hey another win yesterday) at -40.6. He is almost eight full points more off than his next closest competitor.

He voted against every single health care measure the republicans undertook. He voted against Kavanaugh without any of that "oh I might who knows tee hee" like a lot of red state democrats. He voted against Haspel. He voted for net neutrality. He voted against Pompeo. Against Pruitt. Against Mulvaney. Against Mnuchin and Price and Sessions and literally every single controversial White House appointment you can think off. Against the White House immigration proposal but for the bipartisan bill. Against all the tax codes. For sanctions. And on and on like this.

He voted against Neil Gorsuch. Democrats got hammered on attack over attack for voting against Kavanaugh, and he (from a +20 R state) voted against Gorsuch. AND WON.

He had a mere 36.7 voting with Trump record on what 538 considers important votes. In contrast, Manchin had 60% (and voted for a lot of those things above that Tester did not). That puts him a mere two points above such conservative senators as Tim Kaine and Thomas Carper. Machin is actually closer to Rand Paul than he is Tester.

Tester is pro abortion, pro LGBT rights, in a state that Trump won by 20. He single handedly dismantled Trump's attempt to head the VA with someone he desperately wanted. And Trump did every thing in his power to unseat Tester. In a state that love Trump, Trump actively campaigned against him for months.

And he won. Gg Montana I love you.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-trump-score/

Candidate quality matters. Jon Testeris and always has been a fucking badass. The man is missing several fingers from an accident learning how to butcher animals. He's an organic farmer in a state where thats big big business.

And as it turns out having the courage of your convictions is something that matters too. Compare him vs a fucking snake like Donnelly or a senile idiot like Nelson and people respond

CNN does not have the right to be there. If that reporter was unprofessional, he was probably following orders from management at CNN, which is sensationalist garbage.

Won't be the first to do basically everything you just said. Nor the last.

Harry Truman

https://nypost.com/2017/05/17/harry-truman-trashed-the-media-long-before-donald-trump/

Presidents and the members of their Cabinets and their staff members have been slandered and misrepresented since George Washingtonwhen the press is friendly to an administration the opposition has been lied about and treated to the excrescence [sic] of paid prostitutes of the mind.

Thomas Jefferson

"Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle," Jefferson opined in 1807.

and

"The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, in as much as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors."

Ronald Reagan

"Every president will try to use the press to his best advantage and to avoid those situations that aren't to his advantage," Reagan said during the 1988 White House Correspondents Dinner. "The press can take care of itself quite nicely, and a president should be able to take care of himself as well."

He added: "What I hope my epitaph will be with the White House correspondents what every president's epitaph should be with the press is this: 'He gave as good as he got.' And that I think will make for a healthy press and a healthy presidency."

Theodore Roosevelt

Though hed later call Sinclair and other journalists like him muckrakers, Roosevelt used the press to his advantage, giving reporters information on Sunday and then basing his decisions on how the public reacted to the Monday papers. So-called muckraker Lincoln Steffens maintained that congressmen went along with Roosevelt because he was the leader of public opinion and they were afraid of facing retribution if they defied him.

Woodrow Wilson

Wilson curtailed freedom of the press. He did this through a dual strategy of censorship and propaganda.

Wilson wanted authority to exercise censorship over the Press to the extent that that censorshipis absolutely necessary to the public safety. However, the Senate and House of Representatives didnt share that opinion. Thanks to the efforts of three Republican senators, the censorship provisions Wilson wanted were never enacted.

https://www.history.com/news/presidents-relationship-with-press

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton publicly condemned purveyors of hatred and division on the public air waves.

Many presidents on both sides of the aisle since Washington had issues with the press. Just because Trump is meeting it more head on, doesn't make this something new. But, recency bias and all that.

It is not a right to be in that room, its a privilege. The President isnt remotely obligated to talk to him. And once he shut him down the first time, that should have been it. Personally Trump gave him too much slack. Should have had his mic shut off and removed from the building.

Trump, as chief executive elected by the American people, has an obligation to the American people to be transparent about what's happening in the country and the way he's running it, in this instance by fairly and reasonably submitting himself to questioning by the press. Intentionally acting belligerent and confrontational and then banning reporters from further questioning after the exchange inevitably escalates is not in line with that obligation. To clarify one point, I am saying that Trump was far out of line long before you're claiming Acosta started acting unprofessional (which might not be a claim I would dispute, in fairness).

Corrik, the fact that Trump is not the first person in all of human history to attempt to manipulate and destroy freedom of the press does not make it ok for Trump to also do that. Also most (not all, admittedly) of those appear to be more mundane criticisms and not a component of a full-fledged campaign to dismantle the free press, as is the case with my accusations of Trump.

I would never underestimate Congressional Democrats' ability to ruin their own prospects, but I can't see them not presenting a unified front in the House. It isn't like Republicans are suddenly going to try to compromise.

The GOP is losing like 35+ seats in the House and gaining like 2-3 in the Senate. That is not a win for Trump.
