SSSS.Gridman was fucking amazing.

Release The Spyce was a great bond style homage, but had lots of the bond style problems when trying to be totally serious.

Honda-San was in the top tier of comedy anime, and everyone should watch its 120 minutes of hilarity.

Finished Skullfaced Bookseller Honda-san. The first couple episodes were pretty great, but unfortunately, it got kinda bad after that. The parts where it was focusing on interesting customers were pretty much always good, but the other parts were basically not good/funny at all. And I say this as someone who's actually worked at a book store! Wish it just focused on the customer segments.

Great episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Sad I have to wait a week for the next one now.

I do like that this episode went a decent way towards redeeming Gabiru. He's pretty much been a joke so far, but here it at least shows a reasonably competent and noble leader, even if severely misguided.

I also like how good guy Rimuru just immediately agrees to help the lizardmen no matter how the situation develops.

The whole battle scene was great of course, and it especially drives home how OP everyone in this village is. (Well we already knew Rimuru was OP, but it seems like at least the important characters in the village are all leagues above ordinary grunt soldiers on their own)

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai completed. This was an awesome anime, definitely one of the best of the year (though not the best of the season imho). There were a few points where I wanted arcs to be longer just so that things could be better paced, but it's pretty high praise to say that the worst thing about this anime was that there wasn't more of it. Otherwise I enjoyed the individual stories, the chemistry between the characters, and how it all came together.

SSSS Gridman beated. Fairly disappointed in this. I really loved the first few episodes. Akane made for a great villain, and the stuff with people dying and the world being remade without them was super compelling. However, that stops being a thing after a few episodes, sadly. It becomes a bit more typical of a series after that. It still does some interesting things here and there, but not quite on the same level. Akane herself becomes less interesting too, IMO, but I guess that's the price of character development. The ending was cool at least.

Unfortunately, when that became worse, the series didn't have much left. The other characters weren't so great (Rikka was occasionally fun, but didn't get enough focus, and Yuta was totally boring until episode 11. Should've had that change in episode 3 or 4, IMO), aside from some of the fun side characters. I like Calibur a lot at first, but he got less weird later too. Whatever magic Trigger had to make the fights in the first half of Franxx look good was missing here too, since almost all the fights were totally boring. Wakamoto Kaiju in ep 11 was the only one that was good at all. I guess the last thing I'll mention is that the series had a good feel to it. The sense of style, the little ideas, the dialogue from minor characters, etc. - that was all quite good. I loved Alexis's VA too - the way he said everything made him feel like more than just some evil dude. Would be nice to have a Trigger show with everything all there.

The VA work in this show in general is excellent as all hell.

I ended up liking a lot, but it ended up getting snubbed in every awards category for me (would have had 2 entries in waifu). Not an amazing show but a real good time. The dream episode was very impressive I thought. Th ending was rad in general, though lroba ly way more so for longtime fans (as is with the absolutely ABSURD amount of references throughout the series to other mecha and Ultraseries). At the end of the day I really feel like this could have been stretched in a way to pull of a two cour.

Trigger has Promare coming out, and being a film with the mainline Trigger team it will probably be an absolute fucking blast.

People who read the LNs are saying the Bunny Girl Senpai anime was rushed. Especially the last episode where it failed to have a similar emotional impact and half of it wasn't about Kaede at all. It's still a great anime, but even I could tell they cut a lot of content and kind of botched the conclusion (yes I know there's going to be a movie). Would be so much better if it got 2 cours instead.

Yeah you can tell basically every arc but the first had a bunch cut.

I still think it's my AOTS tho, but Bloom Into You might take it depending on the last episode.

Maybe I would feel different if I were an LN reader, but I thought the speedy pacing was one of the reasons the series was so good. For all the Monogatari comparisons it gets, that was a stark contrast. With Fall wrapping up, I think it stands fairly confident at #1 for the season, and it ended up at #2 for the year.

Finished Bunny Girl Senpai. Pretty good show, though I probably liked it a bit less than other people here based on comments in this thread. There some arcs that were noticeably weaker than others, though even the weak arcs were still pretty good, at least. I do agree on the last arc feeling somewhat rushed at the end. Also almost all the stuff with Mai in the final episode was kinda dumb, though it didn't affect the overall experience much.

Arc ranking: Futaba > Mai > Kaede > Koga > Nodoka

In other news, Violet Evergarden continues to be outstanding as of episode 6. While I'd still probably say the 1st episode was the strongest so far, I've enjoyed the whole thing a lot. I love the setting; the show looks great; and it has a really stellar soundtrack. I also really like the general narrative structure, with how the show is effectively telling (rather engaging) stories mostly about other people, but still also manages to show us how the experiences make Violet grow as a person. I also think the narrative trick of frequently framing the show through other characters narrating their perceptions of Violet is pretty cool. If I were to complain about anything, it would be that the drama can sometimes feel a bit heavy-handed. That's really a minor complaint though, as I feel the story justifies it for the most part.

Yeah, Violet Evergarden was great when Violet was a character in someone else's story. It's too bad they couldn't have done the whole show about that instead of all the (in my opinion) awful Violet-focused episodes. The setting is kind of neat but Violet makes absolutely no sense within it.

Iroduku: The World in Colors completed, and it was awesome. This anime appealed to me in a lot of ways, with excellent characters, a magical tone, and nostalgic feelings. It was also beautifully put-together, both visually and emotionally. Several sequences in particular are still sticking with me, even now. There were a few things I wanted it to do with the story that it wound up not doing, which impacted my enjoyment of the finale a bit (though let me be clear, the final episode was still amazing, this just didn't break into my top 5 of all time like I thought it had the potential to). Iroduku is still easily my favorite anime of the season and one of the best of the year.

Anyway, I'm going to get real busy again soon so I'm probably going to (at least temporarily) drop a lot of junk from this season that I wound up not finishing (and some probably-not-junk like Bloom Into You that I never made time for because the first episode was super meh). Just a heads up in case anyone was waiting anxiously for my opinion on the hit anime Conception!

It was the point where they completely glossed over The Twilight Murder that I realized it wasn't gonna amount to anything.

Not to say it was totally worthless and my fanboy heart still liked a few scenes, but I'd still call it a failure.

I'm not sure, I'll probably just try to keep up with a few airing shows for the next little while. Continuing to chisel away at my backlog would come after that.

I don't think I'll ever watch a truly massive franchise, either. I look at the length of something like One Piece and go lolnope. HxH length is probably my limit.
