Pokemon like always but considering the only thing that got announced for it is "we are making one" it isn't much to go by

I will play Devil May Cry 5 but not really anticipating it so much
Resident Evil 2 Remake might mean I can finally make my long anticipated Resident Evil Marathon, and finally play the series (I only played and beat RE4)
NSMBU for Switch..I will play it at some point, probably not this year

O yes, I had Toejam & Earl, Samurai Showdown, and Last of Us 2 on my much larger list of interesting 2019 titles too.

I dunno if T&E can ever get enough attention these days and even back in the Genesis days it wasn't that popular (but it WAS super fun for me at least).

Just read up on it a bit more and sounds great they're going back to the original game's view/camera perspective.

The Samurai Showdown series hurt itself by not spelling Showdown properly. As for Last of Us 2 well I guess they're still polishing that ****.

I don't think I like the art style here too much. It's a little too bright and doesn't have that "glow" (TV tube glow? lol) that the original game had. It's probably too late for them to change things stylistically at this point but hopefully they'll make up for it with good level design and gameplay mechanics that the original had.

EDIT: Nvm, the screenshots on steam didn't look too good, but this gameplay video from 2016 looks cool.

There's an added mechanic where you can tap a yo-kai to get an extra boost to the befriending chance, and it does have a noticeable effect. I also don't think rare yo-kai were as rare as they used to be. But I think for some of them they were relegated to only appearing in specific spots, so if you're unaware of where those spots are it can take a long time (I think this happened with me and Reversette, spent forever looking for it but then when I did find it, I ended up finding it numerous times in the same tree fairly quickly).

On the flip side, there are now a lot of version exclusives you'd have to trade for, and a handful you can only get access to if you have save data for two or even all three versions of the game on your 3DS (and a few you need YW1 data to get). Pandanoko is still the same, so that's off the table unless you're super lucky, and there are a lot of QR code exclusives. One in particular there's only like 3 QR codes that give the needed coin, and even then there's only a 20% chance of getting it from the coin, so that's super lame (but not impossible since you can create a second save file to try again and again until you get it, but it takes like an hour to unlock the post office, so lol). There are like 3-4 fusion items that only drop very rarely from the new Busters mode, which is super time consuming to get them all, and another fusion item from a scratch lottery ticket that you'll also need to reset over and over and over to get (while also reading up online how to be as efficient as possible). Oh and there are a few S ranks exclusive to RNG in something called the Infinite Tunnel, which is another massive time sink.

So, uh, while befriending from battles is quicker, the game honestly still doesn't respect the player's time at all if they're trying to 100% the Pokedex. But since you can't keep your yo-kai and transfer them along to YW3 anyway, I just got what I reasonably could and called it quits.

Pokemon is my favorite franchise and it's mostly because I like to collect things. But Yo-Kai Watch is one of the very few games that actually made me hate the collection aspect and it doesn't sound like Yo-Kai Watch 2 is any different. Sure it does some stuff better, but as you mentioned, it does some things a lot worse.

Oh, there are a ton of Crank-a-Kai exclusives in 2 also, but at the same time there are also a ton of QR codes/passwords for coins online so most of them are actually easy to get.

Honestly I don't think the game was developed with the idea that people would actually have a complete "living Pokedex", but that each person would just find what few rares the RNG bestows on them and then trade them away for the few rares other people had until eventually you just register everything without actually keeping them all at once. Which of course just isn't nearly as easy to do overseas as it was in Japan at the height of its popularity.

I still think the game is much better than the first one, you just can't approach it with the goal of having a complete living Yo-kai dex. YW3 will probably be better since it's all one version, but it's also probably worse because fuck there's over 600 yo-kai in it and I'm sure a lot of them are bullshit.
