Yep. The second half of it may have quietly become the best of this season thanks to that.

Reincarnated As a Slime finished. Alas, I did not like this show. It starts out pretty solid, with some alright humor and neat circumstances. I like the reincarnating as a slime idea. The parts with the goblin village and the dwarf city are both quite fun. There's some solid worldbuilding here, and I was consistently interested in what was going on. The animation and style of everything were super awesome too (the show keeps some of that style, but the animation definitely goes downhill over time). I love how the great sage displays text everywhere. It's presented in a super compelling fashion.

Unfortunately, I don't like much of the show after Shizu's arc at all (though ep 24 is fun). Once the Ogres appear I didn't find much to enjoy about the show. The transformations all the monsters get (other than the goblins) are terrible. None of the storylines are very interesting, since Rimuru's pretty overpowered and you know he'll beat any enemies. The city-building stuff started out interesting, but it's not focused on as the main plot point after that either.

The main problem with the show in general is the characters. People are a bit more likable early on, but I didn't particularly like any cast members by the end. The female cast members are generally shit, and while the males are a bit better, Rimuru himself is terrible. He has this way of being shocked by everything that happens that gets super old after a few episodes, and his sense of humor is terrible. All his powers are pretty dumb too. But where other shows with lame protagonists can get by due to focusing on the rest of the cast, the show keeps focusing on Rimuru, even though it doesn't give him any development. Honestly, barely any of the cast members develop after their introductions. The ogres are definitely the worst part of the cast though. None of them are interesting, and they basically instantly become the main cast when they appear. I hated all of them, Shion most of all.

And then we get to the last arc, where Rimuru somehow becomes a teacher? Like what? Why? How does Rimuru know how to be a teacher? Why are we focusing on these boring kids? Every episode of this arc was absolutely terrible. Show definitely knew how to go out poorly. Bleh.

The nice atmosphere of the show is probably the main thing it had going for it, but the author doesn't really make use of that in an interesting way. Felt like it could've been more successful if it had been more episodic and focused more on developing the cast

Really disappointed in no Senjo yet. I'm sure she'll show up tho. Sodaichi seems majorly in love with Araragi, and I'm lowkey wondering if they're dating. Def looking forward to the back half. Short karen was weird, and I loved the show including the height chart.

Def liked it a lot overall, and it might be my second fav OP of all of Monogatari.

Def worth reading, there were some very spotty times with the animation that make it hard to recommend the anime unless you love the story enough to overlook the spotty animation in episodes 1-10.

that was really good. masamume already seems like a legend. I'm really excited to see him in action now, hype levels are off the charts. introducing him by having him call furuya a chump and then showing his skills in action was done really well. I have a DEEP LORE theory that the coach is intentionally keeping masamune pissed off so that he'll play this way, but maybe I'm wrong.

either way I liked how they focused briefly on this idea that you need the media on your side to succeed at koshien, which masamune disagreed with pretty clearly. it's fun because the media has always had a massive crush on furuya and has always been hyping him up and stuff. seems like the perfect opponent for masamune to crush just to prove his point.

On the other hand, aside from the brief moment of Furuya actually giving an interview that was shown, I'm pretty sure the first series showed Furuya disregard the media just as hard as Masamune disdained them <_<

oh yeah for sure. I was actually thinking Masamune doesn't even know how alike they really are, he's just a judgemental asshole who assumes the worst. like he thinks furuya is a coward who runs away, but the truth is that furuya never wants to give up the mound; he's always forced to do so by other people.

Promised Neverland

Going to do a proper write up for my good friend @Mac_Arrowny

This show... was great. Honestly from the very beginning you can tell there is something special about it. I didn't fall in love with it immediately but it was still very intriguing, enough to get my attention and cause me to read most of the manga before the first few episodes were even all released. I will say that the manga is great but not perfect. That's not really a mark against it, but I just want to give it a fair assessment. I've read a lot of manga and there are better titles out there. It does have some flaws.

Some people complained about certain aspects of the adaptation but for me, this is probably the one series where I feel most strongly that the anime did a really good job of improving on a lot of the flaws that the manga has. Honestly I don't want to spend too much of the write up talking about my comparison between the two when I could just talk about the actual show, but it is still worth discussing.

The music and directing are just... so good. They add so much to everything. And the way events are presented sometimes makes things more immediately clear, and therefore more satisfying, than in the manga. It's the exact opposite from the problem that Attack on Titan has. Attack on Titan it's usually really easy to follow what is happening in the manga. The story is very dense but you can take your time reading the panels and figuring out. The anime every so often (especially a few moments in season 2) has these parts where they use tracking or shots that make an interaction or a scene more awkward, or they cut a small piece of minor dialogue that helped clarify things, and you spend too much time trying to understand the scene to be satisfied by the time you figure it out.

Promised Neverland, the manga has some awkward panels, and it leads to these situations as well. There's just so much shit going on and some of it is like, wait, what. Why are we being told this now. But the way the anime changed those moments, having stuff happening in the present and the past at the same time, made it all feel more cohesive, easier to follow and stay invested it, and ultimately more satisfying. Especially with regards to the final two episodes.

Promised Neverland also has some really lovable characters. I love them all so much. I wouldn't say that the writing is amazing but it's written in a way that makes you feel really good about what happens, and how things happen, and makes you feel very strongly invested in the character -- and it usually rewards you for that investment. The thing is though, it's not just some dumb feel good show. It's a serious show, with a serious plot, but it doesn't do the whole thing where you have to be sad and everything needs to be awful to be serious. It makes the stakes high, it keeps the tone serious, but then it allows you to actually FEEL GOOD about the way things are resolved. That's probably the best thing about it, and what sets it apart from a lot of similar series.

Manga 7 or 8. Anime is an 8 or 9.

Yep, there is literally no chance they go back for this chapter. Both because it has minimal relevance to the plot aside from showing off Hayasaka (Which isn't really necessary...) and because its gag didn't really age well <_<

Finally a chapter with lots of Pieck! and it was really good too. one of the best chapters in a while.

as much as I've been disappointed with Zeke's dumb plan, Eren for going along with such a dumb plan and becoming evil, it was cool to see there is at least some kind of faction that is still opposing all of this nonsense and is in a position to fight back against it. I have no idea if we are supposed to be rooting for Pieck and the other Marleyans or not at this point but it's better than euthanasia.

also 100% convinced that Armin is up to something with that fake crying. if Armin doesn't do anything else cool or pull off any other major gambits I'm going to be pretty disappointed. so I have to believe he is up to SOMETHING.

what you think is going on here at first glance:
Pieck is introducing herself to the Paradis Island soldiers for the first time.

what is actually going on here:
there is an infiltrator in the group, as shown by him wearing the wrong jacket
the infiltrator is Galliard, foreshadowing his "surprise" appearance later in the chapter
Pieck is actually raising her hands to show Galliard that she is chained to Gabi
Pieck has now confirmed that Galliard is in position
Galliard now knows that Pieck will be unable to transform without hurting Gabi

as expected of best girl, she made all of the eldians blush upon seeing her for the first time.

edit: sadly I feel like things will probably not be all that smart and strategic. it's gonna be more like code geass where we are told the characters are smart and sometimes get to see them do cool things. the main reason I believe this is because when the monsters smelled them hiding under the truck they were somehow able to disappear despite having no route they could have used to escape... but were also dumb enough to leave evidence behind that they had been there...

I actually felt like they did this on purpose? Like, they heard the monster saying it smelled something, so they left the bunny behind and ran to make it think it was the bunny it was smelling. If they'd taken the bunny with them the monster would've gone after them and caught them. I dunno, that was just my interpretation.

yeah it was more just a matter of them disappearing from under the truck without anyone noticing just for the sake of making the audience feel more tension. but, eh. it's just dramatic directing. I'm not that butthurt about it or anything. every horror movie does this kind of thing.

That does mean The 154 that Furuya threw at the start of this episode is the fastest of the tournament btw
