Baby guinea pigs (even if close to 2 months old) are tiny yet adorable.

Mine the day i got them was very flighty. Teddie even tried to jump off mom when picking her out of the transporter the first time

I finally got a cage divider so I can house the two together so yesterday I put them together. I also put this long piece of cardboard at the base of the divider since they're still young enough to slip into eachother's side of the cage which I don't ant to happen when I'm not there to supervise them.

I went out to do some errands today so I put the cardboard up and you'll never guess what I found when I got home. Tuxedo was in Brownie's side of the cage chilling in his (Brownie's) house and Brownie was laying down outside near his house.

At least they weren't fighting but I don't know what they did hen I was gone.

Yeah, theyre almost all skittish at that age. Guin was actually relatively calm when I held her at the pet store, thats one of the reasons I chose her.

Dumb question...this is coming from a cat person....
Are the Calico looking ones female, like they generally are with cats?
I'm assuming not, but I thought I'd ask.

I wasnt aware there was a name for White-Brown-Darker Brown tricolored animals at all

What i will say is that all but the really really fluffy one here, is from the same place.

Part petshop owner, part breeder, part veterinarian nurse (thats the best it translated too, a nurse for animals) Vet in danish, recursive translated is Animal Doctor

The owner is an Animal Nurse, so yeah.

Haha, sounds about right!!
Basically, she is an animal person.
I guess we would call that a Vet. Tech. here.
So basically a nurse, just short of being an Accredited Veterinarian.
Becoming a Veterinarian is not an easy task.

I can assume as much.

And as a breeder and shop owner, its probably not a priority.

She did spray mine against mites last year.

No idea if they actually DID have mites, but teddie was biting herself, and i felt it looked like she was missing some fur where she bit herself, so you could say it was just in case.

Whatever keeps them happy!!

I say that as my Cat was being a complete pain in the butt today.
He only wants to drink water from one spot...I'm trying to change that, but I'm getting full resistance, LOL.

I truly hope my girls are happy.

They are a bit skittish if i walk over to the cage, and dont seem to like being carried too much, but as soon as i sit down on the bed, they start talking, and sometimes they dont stop even if i stop petting them. Im also certain that Teddie has taken a nap in my quilt before, she was too relaxed, and silent, not to.

Stribe is a bit more fearful (Teeth incident) but is also a willing conversationalist

Hell even Sally was willing to make noises for me.. and lick my fingers, and shed only known me for a few minutes (not mine but shared interests)

Teddit doesnt like her all that much sadly, and goes on the attack a while after being put together... i dunno if we can teach her not to do so.

That's cool they 'Talk' as it were though, I didn't realize that.

Do they play with toys...or is just teething?

I dont know... i know they like snacks, but they also just like relaxing.

They do "Teeth" on things, cause rodents.. Teeth grows constantly, and has to be "Trimmed down", Pjuske left bitemarks on the house, Silke nibbled the cage itself (though that mighta just been attention whoring, they do like just being up and about actually), which is why you need to give them plenty of hard stuff they can nibble on, though i think hay, daily carrots and such will do for that.

As for talking, thats just what we call it when they make happy content noises

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_W0dFcvmKc" data-time="

The higher the pitch of the noise, the more uncomfortable they are though, so watch out for that (unless its Wheeking, or Purring, the former is high pitched and is... basically attention whoring/im hungry, the latter ive only seen in negative circumstances like rumble strutting)

It might look a bit longer than it is, cause i didnt feel it to be longer than Stribe, though then again, im guessing shes about 5 weeks old at most, so who knows how she will look like when fully grown.

Although ive never had a long haired GP myself, and all but 1 of ours have been from this place.

True, I would never give her any significant amount of jerky. Just two or three little bites about the size of the tip of a pen every once in a blue moon. Who knows why she loves it so much, but she starts sniffing like crazy whenever theres an open bag nearby. It cracks me up.

Just be careful

I have caught guinea pigs be very curious about chips... and ive also heard about Potatoes (or rather the Starch) killing them... but on the other hand ive also heard of guinea pigs being able to handle potatoes by building up some kind of tolerance.

Mine fx, prefer to use a specific corner of their cage as a toilet, and hates using me as a toilet.

What's the life span on these units? My oldest is 10 and I know shes been asking for a pet that's not a fish but I've been hesitant as anything smaller than a dog and I'm worried as far as it passing relatively quickly (compared to larger pets when she would presumably 18+)

Good question

Some say 2-5, others 5-7

The ones ive had lived

1st: Had her for 3,5 years, dunno how old she was when we got her, but she had had babies, so she was probably nearly 5.

2nd. Just shy of 4

3rd. 3 and a half

4th. 6 Years and then got hit with a giant tumor. If it wasnt for that she might still be here today over a year later.

You should also get 2 from the getgo as they are pack animals, and human interaction isnt enough or something like that

They work best in pairs. And same gender of course

Yeah, for all the guinea pigs Ive had 4 or 5 years seems to be around the average lifespan. A lot of sources say 5-8 but that seems a bit high in my experience. Then again for a long time I didnt realize I wasn't giving my pigs the proper diet (not enough hay), so that may have been a factor.

Teddie had a tendency to hide in my shirt when she was younger.

Sometimes getting stuck in the sleeve... not enough space for my arm AND a guinea pig...

If i couldnt pull her out id have to remove my arm, and then get her out the other way.

Had her crawl onto my back within the shirt once as well... good thing i had my phone nearby lol.

5-6 years is on the high end for guinea pigs, so she had to have been healthy.
