Yeah. I dunno why they dont complain that much about sitting there (IE turn around and jump back up, though they will do that if prodded)

Haha, sometimes my cat is walking in front of me, and I go to pick him up..
Though, sometimes, he's not having it, and bucks me just like a horse would.
It's actually kinda funny!!

I love how they purr like cats when they're happy and my old one used to acknowledge me when I walked in the room.

I had one that lived for like 5 or 6 years iirc. She was sweet but I kind of neglected her as a kid, like I didn't change her water or food as often as I should have etc. When she died I felt guilty for a long time but I think overall she had a good life

5-6 years is on the high end for guinea pigs, so she had to have been healthy.

So I got a guinea pig bonding question for yall.

I got two male guinea pigs both around 5months old houses together but separated by a divider. I did that because Tuxedo is a little bit younger than Brownie. My mom suggested I put both of them on my bed to play with them. I did. And it was a disaster.

I put Tuxedo on my bed first because he was easier to grab then I picked up Brownie and placed him on my bed. Almost as soon as I did that they started sniffing each other then a fight broke out. They became a big flurry of thrashing and jumping up and down biting. I didnt even know guinea pigs could do that. I thought they would be cool since Ive seen them lay close to each other along the divider.

Im just wondering if this is normal and how to get them to get along.

The way ive always been taught is to put the newer one into the cage first, let them run around for a bit, then put the older one down.

SOME Fighting is acceptable as thats just dominance (Essentially Guinea Pig Voting Campaign)

However, some Guinea Pigs just dont like eachother and might need to be kept seperate but close to one another, and that is also okay, as long as they can talk to eachother if need be.

Could also be they just dont like the other one stealing your attention, but might be fine if its just in the cage (Thats my 2 in a nutshell)

Sucks that they fought. You had the right idea trying to physically introduce them to each other on a neutral ground, rather than in one of their cages which could be perceived as territory. However I wonder if what you saw was just standard dominance behavior, as SuperVegito mentioned. This can be normal, especially as theyre first introduced and working out their pecking order. There can be chattering, posturing, mounting, ear nipping, and so on that is normal and not cause for much concern.

Id take a minute to read this article, especially the part about guinea pig body language. What you perceived as a fight may not have been a real one at all. Its got a lot of other good tips about introducing your piggies.

Im convinced she would do it again, if you let her.

I know Teddie might very well try, even if she wont really fit... Really hard to get her out again, if shes trying to hide in a space she cant do a 180 in.

Yeah just found out about them like a month ago at an exotic pet store near me. My daughter's sugar glider had babies so we gave them to the guy we bought it off and there was a skinny pig.

They're doing pretty good. I did some research and it just turns out they're both going through guinea pig puberty. They have plenty of space for two pigs but I'm looking to expand their area even more just to be void of any territorial conflict.

Still have them separated by the wall but they can still talk and hang out with each other. Once their space is expanded I'll have another go at taking out the wall. If that doesn't work then I'll just have to wait for them to mature enough for them to get along.

Could be.

Ive been told that if you get Guinea pigs seperately, the younger/newer one should be put into the cage first, and then the older one later, otherwise... it can get problematic

The first 2 we did have, didnt like eachother either, but the older one was more used to Rabbits, so yeah.

I had to deal with that with brother cats.
Basically, they just argued at each other and fought a little.
Until they just realized they could kill each other, and then they sorta just chilled out.
They more or less just got it out of their systems.

Yeah, thats probably part of the issue. Ive read that when you introduce an older pig with a younger one, generally theyll naturally sort it out to where the younger one is submissive to the older one. With them both being the same age and adolescents, it seems they may both still be vying for the alpha spot.

Like you said it may settle down as they grow up a bit and chill out. In the meantime, it will probably help to periodically give them playtime together in a neutral location that neither one of them considers to be their territory.

You should totally consider it @MabusIncarnate - as long as you use a cage with a top and dont leave your pigs unattended while theyre out of it, its perfectly safe. I even let them interact while Im there to supervise. Generally the cat is just curious and sniffs at them and maybe lightly paws them a little.

Heres a pic from one time I put Guin in the cat bed with our cat Artie. He just chilled with her and groomed her for a little while too
