Watched Fate/kaleid liner PrismaIllya Movie: Oath Under Snow . Wasn't really that into it for most of the movie. The first 2/3 or so is fairly boring, and we didn't really need Shirou back as protagonist (plus, the villains are lame too). Their motivations are a real stretch. But the last fight is long and really awesome and one of the coolest Fate/anime things I've seen. Felt great story, character, and animation-wise. Just about redeemed the movie.

This is the point in time where Titan becomes a joke, RIGHT after this. My doom and gloom for the past season is because I truly thought they would reach this point much sooner, and not knowing the season would end up split, but it seems WIT knew they had to make changes and the parts before this that did suck where radically adjusted and shifted to make for a better production, so I applaud them.

But there's no saving what's to come, no matter how talented the studio, which may be a big factor as to why WIT is jumping ship and passing the buck. They're getting out while they're on top. The upcoming content isn't a exactly stuff that would let them capitalize on their strengths, either. Titan is basically going to be an entirely different series soon enough, throwing that behind a bar because even without specifics it's a vague enough implication to be a spoiler.

As someone who was once an enormous fan of this franchise, I'm struggling to think of series I would say suffer as sharp a decline in quality after this point, and it's going to be even more drastic to anime only fans because of a combination of the new studio (which to be fair we don't know who it will be yet), and more importantly because the anime DID make changes to structure to make it a much more pleasing experience, meaning they didn't have to deal with the issues the manga was having up to this point either, so it will be even MORE jarring for them.

I wanna clarify, my praise for WIT studio's production of the season 3 content from a technical, adaptation, and directorial perspective is aimed entirely towards the talent on staff. The studio itself....seems to be a shitshow.

I know that's what most people would assume I meant anyways, but I felt the need to say it.

This is certainly an issue, though there is no denying what the staff at WIT has put together with season 3, especially the second half. I'm not even ACTUALLY watching, and even I've been following this presentation with true appreciation.

I've always had an EXTREMELY hard time reading the SnK manga because of how much info they cram into every page. It was legit the toughest manga I've ever read and I've mostly stuck to summaries.

Last night I went and spoiled myself a bunch.

There's specific plot related stuff that I don't want to get into here, plus everyone's oh so favorite issue of "a problematic author" and how that influences the story that goes over SO WELL around here, but to just give general feelings...

It starts to reach levels of absurdity that go beyond twisting and shocking and just vere into "what the fuck am I reading?" It's truly bizarre at times, to a point where I can't actually take the content seriously. The manga shifts gears a LOT from here in out, and it's not something that can be appreciated just from a synopsis. There are character descisions and personality changes I disagree with strongly, some prominent characters being unceremoniously killed off screen, and of course the ever prominent issue of realizing the symbolism of some of the plot elements and deciding you just don't want to deal with this series anymore. Admittedly some of this is on a more personal level, but over all it's just turned the series into....nonsense to me.

Of course, I'm going to admit I'm not up to date. I've not looked into any updates in Titan for a year at least, other than one set of pages that came out that a lot of people were upset about, me included. Maybe it's really turned things around. Though I think the fact that Titan stuff used to reach my ears without seeking it out at all, and now it seems to be getting mostly ignored in regards to big plot elements that end up reaching people through osmosis, says a bit on it's own.

It's crazy because the reception for the past few episodes has been so overwhelmingly positive. Like AoT has the top 3 episode spots on IMDB as of right now.

I remember when the "problematic" stuff started coming out all over my Twitter last year and people were freaking out about it. Digging into it just seems like the usual suspects looking to be offended by anything they can, not that this isn't sensitive subject matter. But yeah.

Now, everything that you're talking about does actually sound bad. I may have to bite the bullet and start reading even though I HATE the way Iseyama does his story telling.

The true shame...well, not the true shame, but A shame about the problematic stuff is that some people use it as an excuse to assume people have problems with Titan from here on out just because of it, and not because of anything else.

It's a similar if different scaled situation to people assuming OPM2 is getting hate "just because it's not Madhouse", and not because every single factor of it's production is fairly poor and inconsistent, and frankly would be bad in a complete vaccum, not just by comparison.

And I fear a very real and very likely scenario in the future where the Titan anime gets a much worse reputation, and some people will just say "you're just mad it's not WIT anymore."

Well it's because the "problematic" stuff was a willfully ignorant misinterpretation that was being parroted by people... for some reason? Because they have nothing better to do than infect people with the same poison that runs their lives? I don't know.

Either way, hopefully whatever new studio takes over can successfully steer the reigns and present the story a little better. I still think it's fairly amazing the scope of the idea that Iseyama had with this. How far ahead he planned some of this stuff out like... seeing the recognizable faces of Titans from earlier seasons is just wow.

I tend to be a lot more easy to please than most people so maybe I won't dislike it as much.

LtM if you haven't watched the newest season you REALLY should it's fucking fantastic start to finish.

There's a strongly possibility I will, actually. Knowing that WIT is getting out and that they fixed a lot of the manga issues up until this point, it's easy to look at it as the "WIT Era" of Titan, in the same way that you can look at the common trend of acting like certain game or movie series basically ended after the first trilogy, even knowing they continued to go on well after. It gives a good stopping point.

I know it's all just psychological bargaining to find an excuse, but that may be enough for me to be honest.

And I know for a fact that there are people who still like Titan, just like there are people that still like The Simpsons.

The legitimacy of this is still up to debate. It looks worse when you consider how directly it would relate to the Commander Pixis situation from much earlier. Separate, they can be easily written off. Together, they start painting a potential real implication.

I'm not willing to say for sure whether I beleive it one way or the other.

It's certainly not as cut and dry as the MMO Junkie director scandal.

Or it's taken so long for this stuff to get adapted that everyone has just moved on. Only time will tell. One can only imagine what would happen if Kenshin was getting adapted today rather than however long ago.
