Anyone here watching Amazing Race Canada? If not, pretty mind blowing ridiculous thing happened in the first episode.

Canada voted one previous team in who came out to huge fanfare...and then they were eliminated in the first leg. I couldn't believe. Production didn't even pull some crap to say "Non elimination leg!" or anything like that. They were two big, smart, funny, athletic dudes but refused to pickup a map. I was dumbfounded watching the end of the first episode. I can't imagine that ever happening in TAR US.

I'm in a TAR1 rewatch and watched episode 6 last night, wow what a unique episode.

I don't mean that facetiously, it really is the kind of episode you wouldn't see nowadays. Almost half the episode is spent on transportation drama. I don't think they actually started doing tasks until like after the second or third commercial break. And the CPNN edit on Joe/Bill was really something.

I'm seeing the same stuff on my TAR5 rewatch. There was a LOT of transportation drama in multiple legs. And Mirna got a CPNN edit twice as well, getting comments like "She's the rudest person I've ever met" from Colin (for interrupting his conversation, then accusing him of interrupting her when he told her to wait her turn and playing the victim) and then again with her drama at the Egypt airport trying to steal Colin's cab and playing the victim yet again when the cabbie wouldn't let her since Colin hadn't paid him yet.

It's awesome.

Okay so out of the five seasons I've seen (CBB included) four have been won by women, and I know a woman won OTT, so that's five of the last six seasons have been won by a woman. So I for one am sick of hearing about "this could be the year a woman takes it."

I lost interest halfway through the first ad. Like... who cares about watching attractive people making out? The ads make it look like most disgusting thing I've ever seen on TV. I expect, especially since it's on five nights a week, that it won't last the full season. They're marketing it to Big Brother fans, which is NOT the right group of people. Only the people who watch both Big Brother and Bachelor in Paradise are going to care, and that's probably less than half of the 5 million people (US+Canada) watching BB.

She's become an RHAP darling and hasn't seemed awful on her appearances.

That said, I keep forgetting Big Brother is on so I'm not caught up and I really don't mind.

JC was the worst, period. I admit that he wasn't nearly the worst in the edit, but his live feed hi-jinx were disgusting. I normally roll my eyes whenever one of these stupid-ass petitions to get someone removed from the game pop up (like the one going on for Jack as we speak), but the arguments for JC being ejected were legit.

I certainly don't know what Scottie did to get on that bottom list... he was incredibly awkward but he meant well.

I'm probably exaggerating just a tad when I say that Kaitlynn was a "terrible human being" but she was insanely bitter and jealous and took it out on (mostly) innocent people. She also made physical moves on two different guys who obviously weren't interested, despite having a boyfriend who then publicly dumped her while she was still in the house.

J.C. was more clueless in regards to societal norms than he was a truly deplorable person. The "ice cream scooper" thing was his idea of fun, which was something he was unaware was NOT OKAY due to his sheltered upbringing. Why he thought asking Rachel if she was "a real girl" was fine is also beyond me. The reason I didn't put him in the bottom tier is because he's not doing it to be an asshole. He's just... "different." In a legitimately bad way.

Scottie is very conceited and tacky. The way he's behaved on social media and in podcasts is... very slimy. I don't like him and never have.

Kaitlyn was simply crazy, which is what ultimately led her boyfriend to cut ties with her. The house got to her in record time.

Finishing up Amazing Race 5...
Man, what a season! Great locations, wonderfully deep cast, great editing that examined relationships, and hitting all the right notes. Don't like the split final leg - too much emphasis on the final task - but since I'm happy with the winner, it's fine lol

Team rankings:
1. Linda & Karen - Rootable underdogs. The Bowling Moms that could. Very nice ladies who kept on truckin' despite looking like the type of people the younger, more athletic teams would write off. I don't think the Roadblock rule would have helped them, necessarily. With that F4, they were doomed unless they got on the first charter plane.
2. Colin & Christie - I appreciate them even more now, given TAR31. The "functional dysfunctional" team. When you wanted drama, they brought it. Whether it was fighting the horrible Mirna, stiffing cabbies who didn't perform and almost going to jail, breaking oxen, yelling at each other, or whining about being Yielded and asking their driver to run people over, it was always them. They were great TV, and they felt like good people with anger management problems that impact their ability to think rationally. It's no wonder they went all zen mode. It's amazing to see that transformation and I'm glad I watched this back to see it. (also, calling ahead to get the best cabbie in the city - to unload the remaining Race money on - was genius)
3. Chip & Kim - Amazing winners. Two people who came to PLAY and didn't care about making friends, yet did make friends anyway so they didn't get Yielded. Very strong racers, very nice people, and so satisfying to see them win in that F3.
4. Kami & Karli - The "sultry temptress" music was great when they were batting their eyelashes. They started off a little annoying with hating on Chip for playing the game, but became endearing underdogs later on.
5. Brandon & Nicole - They got SO annoying with their religious talk and acting like it was an advantage to put their trust in their god. Uh, you can't let an outside party decide whether you win or not. You have to WANT it! Chip, who is also religious, put that aside because he wanted it. And guess what? He won. They also were kind of hypocritical with bashing Chip for lying to them despite having burned other teams on many occasions. These two do not seem like good people, but boy were they fun to root against.
6. Alison & Donny - She was verbally abusive, he was useless. They added a lot of gold with "MINE KEEP HAVING SEX!" (which was legit) and them actually breaking up for good on the Race proper. However, they're both awful people and while that can be thoroughly enjoyable on TV, two episodes of them was enough.
7. Bob & Joyce - Conversely, these two seem like genuinely wonderful people. However, I can't seem to think of anything they brought to the season...
8. Dennis & Erika - First boot, just because he wanted to make up for the misunderstanding at the airport. A compelling single episode, but it doesn't make them memorable. Apparently, Erika became a Lynne Spillman lieutenant...
9. Jim & Marsha - Jim was just kind of there. Marsha excluded Charla the most and had some snotty confessionals. Otherwise, forgettable.
10. Marshall & Lance - It was nice how they kept good spirits and all, but making jokes about "women drivers" isn't funny and the whiny, entitled attitude needed to go. I don't blame them for quitting - Marshall wasn't almost unable to walk and they were going to be eliminated anyway. It's no wonder they're the only team to ever quit the US Race.
11. Charla & Mirna - Mirna was downright vile in ways that overshadowed Charla's storyline; the way she levied accusations and called names when called out on her bullshit (and, in one case, an actual attempted crime of taxijacking) was... horrendous. Mirna isn't the "love to hate" kind of villain (like Jonny Fairplay or early Omarosa). She's the toxic one that makes your skin crawl.

Must've forgotten one. I know a lot of people mistakenly believe Maria & Tiffany quit, but they did not. Phil came out to eliminate them; they were still attempting that sadistic Detour when he arrived, at which point they folded. They said they felt they couldn't complete either choice, at which point it was decided that Phil come onto the course - possibly with their approval. And when he did, they quit the Detour, seeing as, y'know, Phil was already there.
