Bernie has a major advantage this time that he didn't have last time, which is that there isn't a contested Republican primary going on at the same time. All those Bernie/Trump voters are free to vote for Bernie in the Democratic primary.

Only in the few states that have open primaries. Most are closed, and most people have no idea about how these things even work. And honestly most Bernie/Trump people support Gabbard or Yang.

Tulsi's not perfect, but I would urge anyone who would take Biden over her to listen/watch her episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience.

IIRC, mc was lukewarm to apathetic about her based on what she'd heard before, and watched one and came back with a pretty positive impression. Her first visit single-handedly turned me into a fan, tbh.

(Yes, I remember a few months ago she said something where we were all like "uh, what", but I don't remember the specifics right now, lol).

EDIT: Sorry, she said this year she doesn't support torture even though she did as of just like two years ago. Basically, she's saying all the right things now but her past is full of crap that I don't believe anybody could just magically change on that much.

So...like Biden, except 40 years younger, and has apologized--unlike Biden who has literally said he won't apologize about like a dozen awful things.

Why can't a woman 4 decades younger than Biden, who was raised with a fundamentalist father and has shown a willingness to change, be allowed to? Why is Biden better? That's all I'm wondering.

I mean still to this day she refuses to condemn him for the chemical attacks and is even still basically saying "We don't know he did it." Like calling him a dictator is nice but it doesn't mean much when she refuses to call him a war criminal.

And while I'm willing to accept that she has changed, I'm just personally not sure she has since it seems like she basically just took what she used to say about LGBT and is now basically saying it about Islam, so she still has a lot of hate in her even if it's redirected at the moment.

I sort of deserve it because I was one of the guys saying that, but in my defense:

1) I was significantly less informed about several of the things about Biden that I find off-putting about him now
2) Partially as a result of (1), I viewed him as literally "Hillary without the baggage", and thought that if it were him instead, we wouldn't have had all of the "BUT HER EMAILS", the Comey letter, etc dragging votes away from him.

This is a very, very uninformed take given her record since being elected is excellently pro LGBTQ. As someone who works in the community full time this statement does not reflect the facts. She has been a strong ally in Congress.

Biden winning 2016 might have been possible seeing as Hillary got pretty close even with all her baggage. Although, you have to remember Trump would have had a somewhat different campaign strategy.

Biden is a kick the can down the road sort of moderate candidate. Wouldn't resolve any of the deeper structural issues facing the country. Obama wasn't elected to kick the can down the road but that's how he governed in office. Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises to cause change.

This was pretty interesting. I read someone else mention how the theory of support for Warren's campaign is some wonky nonsense about how the problem with the Democratic party is that it lacks proper ideas or plans to accomplish their goals- just a blatant falsehood. Hillary was herself a wonkish candidate, and many, almost certainly most, of the things she ran on were popular ideas. The theory of a supporter of Bernie's campaign is that the problem is people have a lack of power, not ideas. The way to accomplish goals is to eliminate the oligarchy, not to come up with better proposals that won't pass because congress serves power and not people. That was one of the main points of Bernie's recent speech, that it isn't about him, it is about us. Electing Bernie alone won't change anything, just like electing Obama didn't bring about the change we all wanted. It takes a movement, you can't just elect someone and then expect them to fight the oligarchy on their own. It takes constant organizing, pressure, and electing new members to replace the bought candidates like what we saw with AOC. A revolution never ends! The members of the upper class are very class conscious, well organized, and put constant pressure on the congressmen- we have to do the same, we can't just elect someone and go back to brunch, feeling it is safe in their hands because they are smart and have good ideas or whatever. A populist style of leadership is the most well equipped to handle the job we have in front of us if we want to address major problems that congress just isn't currently addressing in any adequate manner.
