Poll of the Day > Would you spend a day outside just picking up trash from sunrise to sunset?

Suppose you had the necessary gear like a trash picker, trash bags, gloves, and reflective outfit, and even your fully-charged phone, headphones to listen to music, a stocked ice chest with water and food, sunblock, sunglasses, and quick access to restrooms. You have a day off of work, no plans, or pressing engagements. With all this in mind and available, would you wake up early and pick up trash from sunrise to sunset? It'd be entirely voluntary. At most, you'd possibly gain a little fame from passing motorists or pedestrians and would have to dispose of the trash yourself, which may/may not incur a fee, but hey, possible money from recyclables. You could pick up trash on the beach, paths, trails, roads, freeways, highways, rivers, lakes, etc. Obviously no private property or locations where trespassing isn't allowed.

Just you, your grabber, and your trash bags, outside, from sunrise to sunset.

Unless I was court ordered, no. I pick up enough garbage from people just on my lawn on a weekly basis, and I don't live near a major highway.

Got a drunk across the road who loves to party on the weekends with his friends and they will toss a few beer cans at minimum into my yard.

My favorite two pieces of garbage were a sub place that was 80 miles from here and a mop

I'd pick up trash if it happened to be like an annual or semi-annual activity of an organization I belonged to. Otherwise, no.

I did some of that for part of my mandatory community service in high school and it sucked. I'd maybe do it if I was offered like $500 or something. Or if I was in jail.

Nah, but in my home reserve at spring everyone would walk around the place picking up trash, easy when everyone does it, goes fast.

Sunrise to sunset is roughly 13 hours. There are very few things I'd do for that long voluntarily.

I actually did exactly that with some occasional deviation. My dad would bring me to his work and have me do grunt work. Uhhhh it was pretty shitty especially during the summer when the sun rises at 5 and sets at 9

Few ways, we could just create a large engine that converts matter to energy and propel our planet out of the solar system. The tech needed for that would probably allow us to survive without the sun as well.

We could build a GIANT sunscreen that orbits around the earth reflecting back the sun, so we never get it by it's rays. Could actually not be that hard to create in fact (basically similar to the rings on other planets but wider, and made out of reflective material).

We could just build all our cities etc underground and never reach the surface again, so we avoid the sun all together.

We could find a way to destroy the sun or cause it to change it's reaction to "go out" in a few hundred years.

We could just colonize the moon and then mars and build HUGE transportation ships with biodomes in them to keep people alive perpetually and sale off into the universe, avoid suns as we go.

Tons of ways.

Nope but there is some crazy looking older dude near where I work that I always see walking around picking up trash and he has like 5 American flags stuck on his vest. And the flags are on miniature flag poles. Dude is clearly nuts but hey... he's doing the community a nice service. I'm surprised there's not some viral video of the dude yet because he's been doing it for years
