apparently kinzo was all charming and romantic when he was younger

i mean, i guess so

still kinda weird to watch though

weird to watch real-beatrice actually like him

but i suppose she must have

the interesting thing is that the kinzo in this fragment isn't a misogynistic asshole, he actually likes lion.

but he still trapped a young girl (his daughter) in a mansion where he held her against her will and "forced his love" onto her (let's hope with words only)

still, if this story was written as it went along

you have to wonder if the author wrote episode 1 thinking "hehe, i'm gonna make polite mild-tempered george the killer, no one will see it coming"

then he released episode 1 and people said "okay, the kid with the evil tinted glasses is the villain, duh"

and the author was like "oh shit, what do i do now"

do you get the metaphor btw

the soldiers all killing each other for the gold

is just like how the siblings fight each other... for... the gold!

obviously captain yamamato is going to be about to kill beatrice, so kinzo will kill him

and in the aftermath of this bloody massacre, they play some nice peaceful music

but its like

the "dinner time" music

so its really out of place in this blood-covered army bunker right after such an intense scene

in kinzo's defense... if such a story really did happen... it would be pretty darn romantic, and it'd make a lot of sense why he never got over beatrice for the rest of his life

i don't need maria to explain her backstory to me... i've already read chapter 4...

the weird thing is

will already showed he's aware of how magic can be used as metaphor, hell, the way he questions maria about beatrice is full of doubt, since he knows it's just a lie made up by a child

but

will actually is a magic being from a magical world, and witches do exist for him

so does he think maria's story is bullshit? or not? it's kinda odd

Will comes up with some ideas about how there's all these different Beatrices, but it's still nothing we don't already know. For an "exposition"/"answers" chapter, this hasn't actually given us anything particularly new, it's just filling in more details about stuff we could already assume.

apparently there's something weird with ange having the seat to jessica's right at the family conference

i mean, i know there's a specific order, and we're dealing with a mystery of there maybe being one less person (but that's kanon/shannon, not a family member, right?)

so maybe it's just something about lion not existing

but without remembering what the order of the table was described as, I'm not super concerned about it

like, i could go back to episode 1 and read the description of the seating order and try to figure something out. but it's not worth it.

lion says she has no idea about a witch beatrice, or an epitaph, and that she was told wolves were in the forest

but jessica and the others were just talking about witch beatrice so clearly

kinda weird

i guess the game (/ bernkastel) is trying to show me that something is up with lion being here (y'know, other than the fact that she's, y'know, new)

kinda weird then that these stories from the kids are the first ones that lion didn't... listen to? like, she was listening as will interrogated everyone else...

anyway, now that we've questioned everyone we can, surely this section of exposition flashbacks is done...

maybe 6 people can die? i'd love to see lion solve some murders :D

oh joy, will is apparently about to explain everything to lion. hopefully we can get somewhere now...

Will thinks that someone actually literally pretended to be Beatrice, not that Maria imagined it. Uh. I mean, I guess that's possible.

He also makes a really big claim that it works because Maria recognized people by their personality instead of their looks.

I mean, unless we're going the propasgnpaidjdsfodjwhatever direction (been there, done that), I don't really get that, but maybe we are

anyway, Will thinks someone just pretended to be possessed by Beatrice

this can be shannon or kumasawa since they are female

but there's not any reason to think a man couldn't. hell, george could say "i'm beatrice" and maria would believe him lol

Okay, so it was as simple as the table order being about the idea that Lion doesn't exist in, uh, their memories of that stuff. Which, we already got, because Lion doesn't know about the ghost and they do.

The question now becomes why that's relevant. Why is it that if Lion existed, the witch legend never would?

The only other difference is that when Lion exists, Battler doesn't?

Oh. So Lion is 19, which our "magic number"

I guess Lion is Beatrice or something idk

this chapter is weird because it's actually giving me the answer to a puzzle, really soon after it's introduced

"who is lion" "oh, she's beatrice's daughter"

it's sort of... anticlimactic actually >_> this way. because i didn't really ever have much time to wonder about it. so my reaction is like "oh, ok" instead of any sort of real shock

anyway, lion is the baby who doesn't get thrown off a cliff. that's neat, i guess.

also for once, someone who looks similar to beatrice is actually related to beatrice. eva and jessica both have similarities in their looks to beatrice, but it didn't mean anything so i kind of stopped thinking such surface level thoughts.

well, i guess that answers the question of whether or not kinzo only proclaimed his "love" to beatrice's daughter with words, or with something else

based on all this, lion decides that she is the "witch" in the other worlds

that's not really true, is it? our beato is a different entity than some alternate versiof of lion...?

wait, was i not supposed to know if lion was a boy or a girl...?

then LOL, because the game just showed me exactly how it could do that. i suppose, in all the conversations about jessica and lion, they never said that lion was jessica's older "sister", they must've just said sibling the entire time. hah.

i mean, now that you mention it, she is wearing pants in her portrait image, and the outfit isn't super feminine. i noticed that, but, i mean, i didn't think anything of it...

haha. god. i feel stupid for having that snuck past me. i didn't notice anything

but also, to be fair, lion looks like a girl, mostly.

i can see how you could argue that it's a pretty boy, but.

hah, will is bringing up zepar and furfur, which is exactly what i was about to say. obivously they introduced the idea of confusing gender stuff in episode 6 for a more explicit purpose than "lol these demon girls have weird sexuality stuff, pretty clever huh?"

of course, it's extra relevant since kanon and shannon are the same person, and since we don't know for sure if the person who pretended to be beatrice for maria is male or female.

that said, it's still really really weird for this chapter to actually start giving answers to things, and to have a protagonist who just summarizes all the relevant hints and data

i don't know if i'm just being nitpicky, since i know i'm getting what i always wanted, but it honestly feels a little forced

will says "strictly speaking,it [gender confusion] started back in the first game" which is just more confirmation that kanon and shannon are the same person

apparently handsomeboy's reaction of not knowing if kanon was male or female was the intended viewer reaction

(and then they're meant to forget about it, until they finally reach episode 6/7 and realize)
