we flashback to battler as a kid describing the type of girl he wants, and he describes beatrice. i vaguely recall this from an earlier chapter

and then we get an inner monologue from "someone" telling beatrice to become that description and love battler.

again, this is the theme of these witches being personifications of things humans describe, whether its rumours of mysterious events, or a description of a girl.

the inner monologue person said they couldnt hold back their feelings (for battler?) and they were unfulfilled

i don't really get it, but this all feels like a sort of forced way to start giving me an answer to the riddle here.

but, let's keep going

the monologuing person was beatrice, or something, and split their soul in two.

okay...?

and of course, with love, it can be seen

yeah, i come out of that with nothing except that the game is trying to be clever and taunt with me more mysterious stuff

i'm not gonna think much about it

so kanon literally bled from nowhere IRL and then disappeared?

well that's not the real physical thing that happened, can't trust that scene

lol. beato died!

but here's her ghost chatting with kanon 2 minutes later

no one in this game ever dies lol

oh, okay, and now the ghost of kanon is offering to go get battler of the room

like

what even?

kanon says that the true thing beato has to do is make an even more difficult closed room

maybe the one for how kanon died in that guest room in front of everyone, idk

beatrice apparently suddenly "remembers" stuff about her past self

meh meh meh

this all feels very...

i don't like it.

i don't like the writing, i mean.

it feels very forced atm. like the game isn't sure how to properly build up to the next phase with nuance.

yeah, chiester 45 acting weird apparently, could be beato in disguise like i said earlier.

they're really drilling it in lol by having 45 make the copy =/= understood make again

nevermind, apparently beato just appeared

idk, could still be a trick

apparently, talking to kanon there and having a few memory flashes about closed rooms was enough to bring beato's personality back

again though, i have to applaud this game (and by that i mean the author, the artists, and the voice actress) for making beatrice such a clearly defined character

and for somehow making her evil laughter and twisted facial expressions, which were once meant to be scary, actually endearing

we're not even on a gameboard but apparently rules are being broken anyway

the stakes, who are "furniture" and can therefore "only serve their master" are supposed to only serve erika now, but they decide of their own free will to serve battler anyway

i guess they're "good guys" or something lol

god, if umineko draws this out any longer

like, knowing umineko, they're gonna have beato save battler, and then just have other characters wonder "but how did she get him out of the locked room!?"

and then she'll say something vague

and someone will "die"

and then the cahpter will end

because no mysteries can be solved, ever.

anyway, that inner monologue earlier said something about 'mother'

so

is beatrice... the stillborn child?

who had that stillborn child btw?

can't remember.

so after a whole chapter of new-beato trying to figure out how to regain her identity (and then how to break the closed room)

apparently kanon of all people was the one to get through to her?????

kinda weird, but whatever

oh, new-beato is still there, and so is her softer voice. interesting.

i still think the buildup to the climax here has been a little forced, i'm not a fan of it, but i need to see how it plays out in full

kanon reminisces about how kinzo, despite being strict and awful, could be very childish behind closed doors when the family was out of sight

again we have the theme of how people can have both the "childish" side and the very adult side, like beatrice does

"Gohda... I hate that guy." lmao

but sometimes he made stew so i guess hes not bad

they just liked each other because of proximity and no other options

so kanon goes and rescues battler from the room

and now kanon will be trapped there forever...?

but that's not how it should work. if kanon goes in and it makes sense within the confines of the gameboard, there's no more logic error, so nowhere to be stuck

but what really matters is:

this is just a magical interpretation of things

the "reality" of the gameboard

is that, while erika is in the bathroom distracted by the rigged up showerhead

kanon somehow escapes from the guesthouse, runs in, switches places with battler, and hides in the closet or something

that's the game state

right?

but doesn't battler, as the game master, still have to come up with a motive that would explain why tf kanon would do that? lol

not that beato has ever explained any motives, because we never even figured out the whodunnit, much less the how or the why

but theoretically, there should be a reason

kanon says that because they already paused the game, this doesn't matter anyway. they won't resume. erika won't be on the gameboard to open the closet and find him.

that is *incredibly* anticlimactic if true.

so much build up to how to solve this and keep the game going, and in the end, the answer is just "well, someone switched with battler, just not one of the 5 dead bodies" and then the gameboard doesn't continue playing anyway?

like, i was expecting something more clever. we already said "someone switches with him" earlier, the fact that the ultimate solution is just "someone switches with him" isn't really interesting

what makes it interesting is that it means someone leaves the sealed guest room though i guess, so let's see how that goes

so, based on this, kanon was apparently in the "next room over" because his real name is hideyoshi, george, kumasawa, shannon, or nanjo, and those 5 people were said to be in that room.

well, okay. sure.

and erika can't say that he escaped through the window because dlanor, in the stupidest explanation ever, just said "nah" to it

and now the window seal thing gets taken back anyway so that whole bureaucracy thing was kinda pointless

anyway, beatrice seems to deny it in red and i can't tell if there's any other wordplay going on with the names

but the "Everyone else" thing sure is interesting

god they had better actually answer this this chapter

last chapter promised to explain the murders and even when we were about to explain how someone other than natsuhi did it, the chapter just ended.

i get that in episodes 1 to 4, beatrice wanted to lose, hence giving batlter more chances

but why is she giving erika more chances?

my god we are getting as pedantic as possible here

but for good reason, really

the solution to some of the recent riddlers feels like its based on some technicality in the red text

hopefully its a satisfying one

so the situation is apparently:

erika knows the simple answer is "kanon snuck in, switched with battler, replaced the chain, hid in the closet"

but the fact that beatrice is challenging her on it means there must be something more happening, and we're not sure what it is?

again, my issue is that this is a lateral thinking puzzle and not a murder mystery

part of a good murder mystery is that a character actually has to have a) a motive and b) a reason why the plan they are doing is the best plan (or the only one available)

so part of figuring out what kanon did would be asking why he'd do it or why it was reasonable to do

running in and switching places with battler for no reason other than to get himself caught doesn't make any sense with any motive, it's just something he has to do because of red text

so its... meh

erika thinks beato's trick is that kanon went, like, under the bed instead of in the closet

but... so what? what would that change?

so if erika uses blue to say kanon was in the closet, she... loses?

and that's why it's bad?

and if she uses blue to say he's under the bed, she loses?

because beato will just say "nah he's in the other one"

why does she lose?

i don't like this game =/

and so, deciding if kanon is under the bed or in the closet, erika has a life epiphany and realizes more than one truth exists

uh

no it doesn't

this is just a hypothetical scenario where beato can just say "lol it was the other one" no matter which you choose

this is dumb

and so erika shoots the closet

theoretically, beatrice should now declare in red that kanon isn't in the closet

or else its sort of anticlimactic still

and so it is.

kanon apparently entered the room (we know this? in red, right...?) and then let battler out, and then kanon wasn't in the room.

well, okay.

the love twins declare beatrice the winner

and...

oh god. it's going to happen.

the chapter is going to end without explaining any of the mysteries, isn't it?

without love, it cannot be seen
