and so we set up for beato and erika to both fire a final bullet at each other

and erika will "introduce herself"

and beato feels this will be the "final trigger"

go on, umineko, surprise me. give me a twist.

it sounded like erika was about to deny witches? that's what she implied...

uh

i'm confused

what was the point of erika "introducing herself" if she didn't say anything new about herself?

beato told erika she would need another 1000 years before she could satisfy battler, or w/e

which made me think erika was about to say that she was Beatrice (somehow lol)

but instead it was just an excuse for erika to say she's the 18th person

and for beato to therefore say she was only the 17th...

i mean, it makes for a nice hook going into the next episode

but why would erika want that to be her final red statement, and why was beato ready to duel back like that?

like, it doesn't actually make any sense

anyway, i guess the idea is that, what was it, there were 18 humans, but kinzo was always dead, so there were only 17

i can't remember if that got confirmed in red or not, i assumed 17 got confirmed

but now beato is saying there were only ever 16.

well, okay?

and so we end chapter 6 without answering the mystery of the closed room or the mystery of kanon and the guest house

because of course

"answers arc" my ass

You can say that Erika suspected the truth only in the last moment and felt the need to force Beatrice to confirm it.

this is like

it's incredibly unsatisfying to play 6 chapters of a game, over 6 months, and still have the game not give you a single answer to any mystery

this game's pacing sucks

anyway, we move on the "tea party", which is, again, just literally a continuation of the previous scene

i don't understand why the game is insistent on using this chapter/post-chapter format when it makes no sense

that makes sense

i wouldn't have thought "there are 17" was confirmed in red after this, but it makes sense they said "no more than 17"

Anyway, I suppose that means that one other person besides Kinzo who has appeared on screen, was actually never there, and those scenes with that person were not real

beatrice flipping between naive and twisted is kinda weird, tbh

i like both halves of the character but i don't "get" her atm

episode 6 is a Shakespearean comedy, apparently. everyone gets married at the end.

gameboard and meta world blend again though because, like, are these piece-george/shannon/kanon/jessica getting married? or some new meta versions? lol

and so there's a happy ending for everyone, i guess

well, it doesn't look like episodes 7 and 8 are going to have a new gameboard

hell, episodes 5 and 6 never even got past the second twilight (which is good - the full game format was getting old)

my mind can't help but get ahead of myself

the reason we saw scenes of kinzo is because people had the "collective lie" that he was still around

i.e.

natsuhi, krauss, nanjo, and all the servants had made the decision that he was still alive

so we only saw those people in scenes with him, because it was "their truth"

so if there's only 16 people on the island, that means the next missing character is someone who people collectively agreed to pretend was still there

so...

and so, even though beatrice resurrected love, and dead people, and uh, sort of gave some gold, the final epitaph line says she goes to sleep, and so she does

thank god, yes, lets check in with ange and featherine. plz help me out here ange, you're the one who is supposed to reflect me (the player)'s thoughts, but i don't even know what i feel

ange correctly brings up the point that, like... what happens next from here? they all "made it to the golden land"...? but in reality, everyone still... died...? i don't really get it

is ange going to ask featherine why tf no answers are given?

i thought the whole idea with the multiple fanfics from Jo was that they were all different stories of how things could've gone

but in reality, each "different story" is all a direct continuation from the one before it, so that's not really it.

I want Ange to be like "yo, this isn't an ending. it didn't say how battler got out of the room, or who beatrice is, or anything"

like i said, ange's job is to say what i'm feeling, and hey, she's nailing it!

i powered through this game this week because i thought based on my position and it being answe arcs, that i was getting close to finally getting somewhere

but still no answers. no satisfaction.

you need to give the player at least some slow trickle of answers along with more and more questions

but surely i'm close now. episode 7 will have to start answering things...

I think of EP5 as more like the real end to the question arcs, because that's the part where Battler solves the mystery and the game tells you that it's supposed to be solvable by that point. EP6 is an extended, really direct hint. EP7 isn't really hinting anymore.

in fact, i would argue that this question almost encapsulated the entirety of what Umineko is about

doesn't feel very solveable to me, but, sure.

i mean, if ep 6 was a "direct hint" then it certainly went over my head, that's for sure, lol

The interpretation I've heard and favor for EP5 is that Battler reaching the truth is like the part in the detective story where they announce they've solved it but before they start explaining things. And I suppose EP6 is like mid-explanation.

Ah.

So Amakusa is on the phone with Okonogi for real (it really seemed like it was setting up to him lying, what with mentioning how he refused to take the call in the house)

and Okonogi literally tells Amakusa that Kasumi is coming to Rokkenjima to ambush Ange

which means the "ending" of ep 4 with Ange being ambushed by them after telling Amakusa to wait alone

was not the ending - he knew about the attack and is about to come in and save her right after the screen went black for us, i assume

oh, or he is evil for real i guess? idk. whatever.

anyway apparently okonogi's bad too after all? laaaaaame, i liked him =/

i don't really get it. so he warns amakusa about the ambush but he's saying he wants ange to die?

i don't really get it but i also don't particularly care tbh

I will remind you that EP4's end credits claimed Ange died in 1998.

if she dies there she dies. if she lives, credits can be a lie. or just one universe.

anyway, i appreciate the replies, but definitely continue to err on the side of not telling me interpretations of things that i have not yet interpreted, or stuff like insinuating what episode 7 will be like. facts from previous chapters i've forgotten are cool though (and helpful, since i took a few months off)

Sorry, I guess I was trying to improve your opinion of the story based on knowledge you don't have yet. Will be more careful about it.

i mean, it is true that in a mystery story (i think? i haven't really read any), you don't get any answers, until the detective gathers everyone and says they've solved it, then you get them all at once

but man, most mystery stories don't have a format like this game.

it'd be like if you were playing phoenix wright or danganronpa and every case just ended with you being told "phoenix/makoto won, but we won't say how" and no resolution of any individual mysteries

anyway, based on what you've said, i guess i'm supposed to be able to solve it at this point, but that certainly doesn't mean i can

there are still rules of the game i don't know anything about, apparently.

bernkastel claims (probably truthfully) that featherine is 100x more evil than she is

good to know there aren't any morally good characters in this game...

lol. featherine wants to know the answers too.

and if what you were saying about the end of ep 5 wasn't clear enough, featherine saying that she's been able to come up with a solution based on what's been shown so far does tell the viewer that an answer is possible, i suppose.

and so featherine and bernkastel feast on guts and blood, because, whatever

and bernkastel, sadly, is going to be game master next

which means there will be a game, but hopefully now even more of a vehicle to deliver answers

"difficulty" has generally referred to "how hard it is to deny witches"

anyway, it also says "the cold, hard truth will be revealed"
