It would be like labeling gamers 4chan. Incels are incels. He just isn't talking about the actual term and what they are. He was talking about a specific subset of them. I missed that and is what caused our confusion.

It suggests that the persons celibacy is beyond their control, something being done to them by outside forces rather than a personal failing. I told the board that one time my cousin left his phone here and I snooped on it. He was hunting for prostitutes and kids are so dumb these days there were girls offering services for things like $100 amazon/starbucks gift cards.

Is that really the connotation? I thought it was someone so socially awkward/inept that nobody wants to have sex with them (with a whole range of reasons, like "too shy to talk to a girl" or "so off-putting that no girl is interested"). So it's distinct from virgin or someone in a temporary dry spell, but still definitely a personal failing.
