Axe-Backwards was literally sacrificed. What the fuck was that shit lol

Every season has a few fodderbots here and there. It already got YEETed clear out of the arena by Mammoth earlier in the season.

Goddamn lol

Even still that weapon was ridiculous. Are there any sort of regulations on weapons/bots or is it pretty much anything goes as long as it works?

Axe backwards is a strange bot. Be a spinner with armor or a hammer with armor. Being both with exposed tires and splitting your power is a mistake in this level

There's a weight limit. Certain 'entrapment' devices like nets are not allowed. The same goes for explosive projectiles; no mounting an AK-47 to the top of the bot or anything like that. Beyond that though? Most things are fair game and up to the designs of the competitors.

There are some things that are against the rules (entanglement devices, smoke screens, and other weird shit) and there's also a rule that bots MUST have an active weapon of some kind (AKA the Storm 2 Rule) to prevent boring shoving matches There's also a 250 pound weight limit. The original BattleBots series had different weight classes, going from lightweights all the way to super-heavyweights, but the revived series decided to just have one heavyweight division.

That was legit one of the best battles I've ever seen. It had plenty of big hits from two powerful weapons, but it was still an extremely tactical battle that came down to driving skill and control. A well-deserved win for Black Dragon, but Minotaur put up an incredible fight. Reminder: No new episode next Friday due to Shark Week! Use that time to catch up on any episodes you missed, or watch previous seasons, or whatever!

Speaking of sharks... you could always watch the season of Battlebots with... Sharkoprion IIRC... In a game where people spend 10k-20k on their bots, one dude purchased a Rascal scooter and slapped some shaped scrap metal on it make a shark-bot for a total expenditure of like $500.

The whole tournament went how I expected until the Black Dragon versus War Hawk fight. I thought it would be Minotaur and War Hawk in the finals, with Minotaur getting the win.

When Black Dragon defeated War Hawk, I still expected a Minotaur win.

War Hawk surprised me with how well they did last season but they have been underwhelming this year.

Even though Ragnarok has an axe, I still call it a hammer bot. I've never expected much from hammer bots but they just can't get that one working.

Idk what they did to Minotaur between seasons but whatever it was really fucked it up.

Good show with a couple slow fights. Looking forward to more destruction in a few weeks.

Good tourney, it was nice to see Minotaur get it together. The finals were classic, Black Dragon killed it with their aggression and it was just a slugfest. There are so many good bots this year and we've barely seen some of them yet.

I can't wait to see a bot with an actual weapon smack Deep Six and send it cartwheeling across the floor and into the wall. It's going to be ridiculous and incredibly violent.

I'm sorry, I just can't agree with that.

Control bots like Sawblaze or Quantum being able to overcome having weaker weapons by pushing their opponent into the sledgehammer or the screws to cause damage is a good thing. It makes battles more tactical instead of just "we hit weapons and see who explodes first" like some battles have been this season. Battles like that are fun too, but not all of them should be like that. It would become mindless and repetitive.

It's not in this series and I don't even know if it's still a thing elsewhere. However, there was a super heavyweight class that's 340. It fell out of popularity due to a certain design becoming the auto win and because it's just so damn heavy/expensive. Meanwhile 220 is still popular. It does go down to a tiny size such as 1 ounce with various ones between. In BB it's only 250 to keep it simple/unique, old BB had 60/120/220/340.

Anyways, I'm glad to see deep six for once. However, it's so psychotically unstable even toned down and with supports... it'll be really interesting regardless.

That has always been the bane of Nightmare, he's useless without his spinner. Biohazard and Hazard could still push even without their spinners.

Ugh...

While poking around I re-stumbled across this footage of a battlebot that was DQ'd for being deemed too unsafe. I've seen it before, but is a great example for someone who wants to know what kind of limits are allowed in building a design since it was asked if 'anything goes' so long as it fits within the rules. This bot fell within the rules.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm5r0OG0fvo" data-time="

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly the reasons were that it was spinning at an incredibly dangerous speed. While spinning it had very little control of itself and there was too high of a risk that if it hit something one of the arms would go flying off at said incredible speed potentially breaking the box. If it lost an arm it would be off balance and it already had self control issues when by itself. The fact it burned out one of its motors was just a reliability issue and not a problem, the rest of it was too risky.

There's no telling what chaos would have occured if another bot were to make contact.

I don't know if we'll ever see it actually compete, but most likely not in that form.

Yeah, I imagine the tips of the arms on that thing were moving at speeds to match subsonic bullets... The only way you'd want to be around that bot is if you're watching remotely from the safety of an underground bunker. :P

Robot Wars also came back to TV in 2016 (like BattleBots did a year earlier), aired three seasons on BBC2 in the UK, and then got cancelled by the BBC again. It got a (heavily edited and not worth watching) US airing on Science Channel as well. The bots in Robot Wars aren't really up to par with those in BattleBots simply due to the fact that BattleBots teams get sponsorship money and Robot Wars teams (due to BBC being a publically funded network, which is also why the channel has no commercials) aren't allowed to. Robot Wars is also presented more as an "open competition" that anyone can show up and take part in rather than being presented as a legit sporting event like BattleBots is.

That being said, both BattleBots and Robot Wars have their own charms and are both worth watching in their own ways.

Huh, I never knew about this until a bit ago, since I stumbled across hellachopper again which raised the question of safety. Turns out one of the key reasons old CC battlebots ended on season 5, is because of an unaired episode. Another cause is probably due to the weird direction they were going.

To avoid making anyone track it down, someone managed to dig this from the depths.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqLxTVA9nfU" data-time="

It's a fairly anti-climatic fight for the most part, however there's one key thing of note. Nightmare loses a weapon tooth and breached the ceiling of the box, getting DQ'd from advancing and causing concerns of safety.

I always wondered if it actually happened, now I know.

Anyways, I see according to the guide episode 9 is 3 hours? Oh gawd... *bottles up anticipation if true*

- It's possible someone posted/mentioned it already, but I can't go back and look due to the purge monster and my memory is starting to feel like it might have been. Sorry if it was already mentioned.

I'm kinda surprised the judges decision went to Black Dragon. Don't get me wrong, I agree with it as they completely dominated that fight. But I figured they were going to say that Minotaur got the damage points because it killed Black Dragon's weapon (and there wasn't as much damage on Minotaur) along with Aggression because Black Dragon stopped being able to use it's primary weapon to score hits. Sorta reminiscent to Chomp's win over Bite Force from years ago.

I guess they have tweaked the rules enough to prevent that sort of egregious "well even though this bot was getting it's ass kicked it technically won on points" scenario.

Pushbot behavior counts for Aggression. It's how Skorpios got some lame wins in a previous season despite missing its entire tail section. The thought process is that it allows a damaged bot to still have a chance at victory. Otherwise the meta would be to create a bot that breaks weapons and gets easy wins because of it.

Yeah, the rules used to say only damage/aggression with a primary weapon counted. But now the rules say that pushing the opponent around does count for aggression, and pushing the opponent into hazards does count for damage... it just counts less than aggression with your primary weapon.

Also, I'm pretty sure that Black Dragon's weapon was still working in the end. I remember them powering it down near the end when they were pushing Minotaur around, but I also remember it spinning up again at some point near the end.
