The new season of BattleBots reaches the halfway mark tonight, and the first half is capped off by the long-awaited Desperado Flash Tournament: eight bots with their playoff hopes on the brink, three battles to win, and one automatic entry into the BattleBots Championship Tournament at stake.



After going all the way to the Championship final last season, Minotaur stumbled out of the gate this year and finds itself at 0-2 and in the Desperado. Filling out the bracket are other winless or otherwise shaky bots such as Black Dragon, Lucky, and Ragnarok. In addition to the Desperado, we also have a special exhibition battle tonight, featuring the debut of possibly the largest bar spinner in robot combat history. Deep Six is finally about to make a deep impact in the arena, and we're in for another explosive episode of mechanical mayhem! Catch it tonight at 8pm EST on Discovery Channel.





Just a heads up: there will be no new episode of BattleBots next week due to Shark Week completely taking over Discovery Channel, and it will return on August 9. The Science Channel re-runs will continue normally, so once we get back from the mid-season break, the re-runs will be back to the normal "5 days behind when they premiere" schedule from the start of the season. Agreed. Technology evolved SO far between when the original series got cancelled in 2004 and when it got revived in 2015. Bots are (in general) much more powerful than the old ones ever were, and the fights are pretty insane.

It wasn't, but things have evolved. The energy going into these weapons is honestly terrifying. Those bots weigh 250 lbs. Seeing them thrown around like toys is something to behold

Anyway, still rooting for Minotaur. They seem to have dialed in their new tech. A bit of fine tuning for the driving and they should be able to take the whole thing.

Even if Minotaur wins this, Black Dragon still has a decent chance to make the main postseason tournament now that they added two wins to their resume. They would be 3-2 on the season if they lost in the final of the Desperado, so if they win out and go 4-2 (maybe 5-2?) I think they get in.

Anyways, time to watch Deep Six cause absolute chaos.
