I can only see this being used to talk shit about users behind their backs. Except not that effectively since everyone has alts and can just make an alt to see hidden stuff even if you block all their existing alts.

the only long running topic series I've ever made is the anime and manga discussion topic.
1. I don't even post in there anymore and haven't for years
2. there was never any time where I posted in there and "blocked" anyone from entering, nor did such a feature even exist at the time, nor would I have ever used it if it had.
3. I never told or even asked anyone to leave that topic series.

I don't see how you could even reasonably believe that me making one topic to discuss stuff with my friends, on a public forum, where anyone could post, is somehow the same level as me unilaterally excluding a user from a long running discussion topic. what you are saying is not even remotely close to being true in any way.

if you're referring to mac telling LtM not to post in that topic, what do you want me to do about? I don't control Mac or what he does. he probably tells him not to post in the main topic, either, and people in the main topic are constantly dumping on LtM and I stay out of it. I've multiple times told people on AT that I'm not interested in talking shit about LtM and I'd rather just talk about anime.

That said, imagine how insecure and weird you would have to be in order to be worried if someone you have ignored can see your posts and topics.

The fact enough people complained to get that feature made on this site is kinda crazy.

Like, I can give a great example using a person. Steiner clearly has added me to this "block" list thing already. But he will be the first person also hopping on alts to read my messages too. Lol. That's hardcore insecurity.

Shoulda blocked alts before this. (But gotta keep those account numbers!)

Awful feature

What I like about the ignore feature is that it's opt-in. If you want to ignore people because they're worsening the board for you, you can do it. If you want to see all content, you can do it.

But being able to unilaterally restrict others' viewing of content is just dumb.

But theoretically you can reduce the likelihood of a post getting seen by a mod by blocking people who you know/think report posts.

Block everyone who you think might become a mod in the future, so the site won't remove them from your Block list when they get promoted.

This is so hilariously overdue. Took like 5 years of me (and a few others) convincing Allen to do it but he finally caved. Thank the good lord. This is how every other site does their block feature. None of this crap where ignoring goes one way. If I block someone, I want them completely and thoroughly out of my life, just like it's done on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, and so-on.

Corrik, the entire point is to delete people who are legitimately harassing you, which I've dealt with on this site for over 15 years now. It's nice to be able to come here and not have to worry about it anymore. It's also nice to not have to deal with obsessive marking types who flag hundreds of messages per day, of which Board 8 has quite a few but none will actually bother admitting it.

And trust me, I know who all of them are. Goodbye and good riddance.

I imagine it's pretty nice to not have bad actors coming into a topic, stinking up the joint, and derailing the discussion even though you had them ignored

It's slightly closer to what people can do in real life- i.e. not invite annoying people into their conversations

This. Aecioo for example has been harassing me for literally over 10 years. This feature is a godsend.
