After a one-week break for shark week, BattleBots is back for another night of metal-munching mayhem! Here's our fight card for tonight:



The second half of this season begins with an electrifying battle between HUGE and Gigabyte, and our main event features an all-star showdown between Whiplash and Witch Doctor. Also tonight, Nelly the Ellybot will be sacrificed to the robot combat gods as it dives face-first into the horrifically powerful spinner of Deep Six. Tune in tonight at 8PM on the Discovery Channel to watch the carnage, and don't forget to press F to pay respects.

(this is the part of the post where I'd include gifs from the previous episode, but I completely forgot to make some)

A heads up for you guys: the Science Channel re-runs will not be returning for another couple of months, so if you miss the original airing of these episodes on Discovery Channel and don't DVR them, it'll be much tougher to find and watch them to catch up.

Yeah, Gigabyte screwed itself pretty badly there. Tough break.

Gigabyte was controlling that round too. But they had no way of doing any sort of meaningful damage by the time they started to gain momentum.

Damn, Wan put up a hell of a fight but they took too much damage for the judges to give it to them I think.

In any case, I loved the aggression and absolute refusal to back down when their weapon went down. They kept at it and in a prolonged fight, I think would've taken it eventually.

Yep, most Son Of Whyachi fights go like that. Either it kills the opponent fast, kills itself fast, or ends up flipped on its back fast. Its long fight against HUGE earlier this season was an anomaly, but it did show that S.O.W. is more durable and reliable than it has been in the past.

It still has the same insane killing power that it's had for over 15 years though.

Holy shit, Witch Doctor is back with a vengeance. That was a brutal fight, and they completely manhandled a top 4 bot from last season.

The Gigabyte vs HUGE fight was disappointing for me (Im a fan of gigabyte), It was like Giggy was disoriented with the driving and ran into the wall on accident. It was pretty much a one hit KO for the weapon.

I was looking forward to see if they could dismantle HUGE's wheels like SoW did, but then they just kept hitting the walls and lost their weapon soon after. Definitely the biggest disappointment of the episode, every other fight was really good.

Overall a good episode.

Gigabyte seemed to show up to the fight drunk or something... They should have been in the middle of the arena, trying to drive in a circular arc to slam into the wheels of Huge.

For the fight between Mammoth and Wanhoo, I'm thinking it was the left wheel of Mammoth seizing up along with the weapon chain breaking at the end of the fight that gave the nod to Wanhoo. I forget if that bot's armor is supposed to get chewed up, but the camera at least caught a closeup of Wanhoo looking like it was thrashed by a meat tenderizer.

For SOW and Texas Twister, missing that initial box rush was certain to spell trouble. If SOW's weapon gets up to speed, things ARE going to break. Given the interview with Taft before the fight I expected Texas Twister to charge full throttle at SOW since they effectively have that steel shield to bash with.

Subzero might not be top 16 material, but it got to demonstrate what it is designed to do in a fight quite well against P1. Two ring outs for show to boot.

As for Nelly and Deep Six, the latter remains one of the more dangerous designs that has been allowed to compete. Destroying: the lights, part of the floor, obviously its opponent, and yet also itself at the same time...

Then there's the main event. That's how main events should go. When Witch Doctor said that they put their weapon up to full throttle it certainly makes sense given both the damage inflicted and the smoke coming from the motor. I think both teams have some good fights ahead of them in the tournament.

Wan references Perseverance, while Hoo references Rage.

Someone who knows Chinese might be able to fill in the actual words.
