The Epstein suicide has me thinking. I know there have been pretty crazy things that are totally legit (CIA mind control, etc.), but none of those really were widely speculated about before the truth was revealed.

I'm trying to think of some conspiracy/cover-up that has been widely theorized to then be proven correct over time. But I'm stumped.

Yeah when I get home I can link you to a cool article about things the soviet union did to protestors. Basically they used to follow them around, and do minor things like release air from their tires, steal mail, etc. To basically make protestors seem like they were crazy paranoid and to discredit them.

The us government bwing involved in MLK's death is one I haven't researched much but seems like it could be in the vein of what you're looking for.

Iran contra affair, where the president commited treason against its own people

This is just off the top of my head but yeah man, conspiracy level stuff happens

Governments spying on us through (insert thing here). Always ends up being true, and then the next big thing everyone assures themselves is safe before years down the road when it comes out again.

Dunno if that counts

I should clarify that I mean specifically in the US.

And I don't mean "conspiracy" in the legal term. I mean something that nutty people say is the truth with little more than speculation, but it winds up being accurate.

By their very nature "conspiracy theory" is a way for establishment to brand people who expose truths as "nutty" it's an easy lie to believe, that people who think that the establishment has done something outlandish/criminal are the same group of people who think they're Napoleon and wear tin foil hats.

Anyone who studies the history of the CIA and the FBI will find that it is a very common COINTELPRO tactic to use false flag actors like Alex Jones to spread a mixture of true and false information to discredit conspiracy theories by coming up with nonsense like Pizzagate and QAnon to discredit and distract from true information (Epstein being a Mossad honey pot intelligence asset and running a pedophile ring for the wealthy and powerful that he took over after the 'yacht accident' death of the Israeli super spy, the father of Ghislaine Maxwell who is the procurer of girls for Jeffrey, which even his family says was murder). If you look at people involved with promotion of QAnon and Pizzagate like Mike Cernovic, he works for and is friends with Alan Dershowitz, the famous Clinton Ally and lawyer who was friends with Jeff Epstein and on the island on many occasions. There is no conspiracy involved with the Epstein case, it's just all true and the conspiracies are to cover up for it. Jeff himself said he was an intelligence asset, he had numerous fake passports, and when he was protected in 2005 Acosta said he gave him the sweetheart deal because he was told that Epstein is an intelligence asset and above his pay grade.

Epstein, since his release from his bullshit prison sentence, had shipped himself an industrial cement mixer, shredder, carpet remover, and boarded up the temple on his island. It's all been scrubbed.

This post probably sounds insane to anyone who hasn't been deep down in the Epstein dive, but you can look it up, the fact Alex Jones is an intel asset is the only thing that is my own allegation.

Depends on how you define conspiracy theory.

Does leaded gas count? It was suspected that leaded gas was dangerous in the same year it made its debut, but there was a concerted effort by gas companies and some people within the government to mislead people and convince them everything was okay. Leaded gas was going to be banned, but it was walked back to "needs investigation". And then people within the lead industry were conducting the very studies that deemed leaded gas safe.

The DNC screwing Sanders comes to mind. Though that isn't government.

NSA spying on everyone too, Snowden is one of the biggest recent examples.

There's always been speculation that the US is funding war in the Middle East, including terrorists, which did get proven by our Syrian operations outright funding and training Al Queda. But CIA conspiracies are incredibly common, probably because they often have some legs to stand on if it involves war or killing a leader we don't like.

it's hard to track, because once a conspiracy theory is proven correct, everyone sort of retroactively decides they knew it wasn't crazy from the start

the NSA spying thing is a good example. it went from being 'only crazy hobos wearing tin foil hats believe this' to 'of COURSE they were doing that, i knew the whole time' in about two years

If anyone is ever in Berlin and interested in shit like this, I highly recommended the Stasi Museum. A bit out of the way compared to everything else you'll want to see in Berlin as it's in the old headquarters of the Stasi, which was disguised as a normal block of flats.
shit ton of info about the how and the why on what's mentioned above. found it really, really interesting.

Only thing that I question about that is whether it qualifies as a major conspiracy

If we counted every group crime as a major conspiracy, there's a long list of bank robbers, blackmailers, cheating spouses and executives we'd need to be talking about

MK Ultra, 9/11 being a response to US imperialism, NSA spying, Panama Papers, federal reserve causing a market crash, US funding the cartels, Epstein pedophilia...

There's really a lot of things that were majorly talked about before they were revealed. A lot of it wasn't exactly treated like "loony wing nut wacko" stuff, but it was definitely dismissed as paranoid or an exaggeration, until it came out. But even some of the wacko stuff did come out as true.

With the increased communication nowadays, nothing is really too out there for people to dismiss as straight up lunacy, except for certain scientific things like anti-vac or flat earth or climate change denial. But any conspiracy theories that are social or political are pretty much fair game, from deflategate up to Trump and Clinton raping kids at Epstein's parties.

The official report hasn't been released yet. While I have no reason to doubt it myself, it's funny how people who rail against anonymous sources will suddenly trust them implicitly the second it can fit their narrative.

Saying he had "broken bones" by itself is meaningless. Hanging is supposed to break your neck if done properly. The relevant bone in question here is the Hyoid bone.

https://heavy.com/news/2019/08/jeffrey-epstein-hyoid-bone-broken-neck/

Hyoid bone fractures are generally estimated to occur in about 20-25% of suicides by hanging (depending on the study) versus about 50% homicides by strangulation. Those 20-25% however are linked to incomplete hanging and age, specifically once you're over 40 due to "calcification of and immobilization of the joints." Epstein was 66.

An indication to continue searching for signs of strangulation for sure. Hardly a slam dunk.
