My favorite part:

"And what do you use a computer for?"

"Well, for keeping household records such as what I have in the freezer"

I genuinely didn't know email was a thing in 1984.

I thought the internet didn't exist until the early 1990s. It certainly didn't become mainstream until the late 1990s.

I knew it existed before couldnt tell you the year though. But it started out as a military thing iirc.

I remember having a computer well before I even knew about the internet though. Thing didnt even have Windows. Just MS DOS but my grandad made his own OS for it. Very simplistic but he put some video games for my brother and I on it. I'll always remember the donkey knot rip off daves kong

I like how they broadcast a program at the end. It's probably the game Global Thermonuclear War. I should run it through my WOPR to verify.

Honestly would've been an applicable segment for 1994, too.

I wouldn't have even thought e-mail was a thing with DOS.

There was some program, I don't remember the name right now, before Aol, was something net (not Arpnet....something else a program everyone used, or alot of people did). This was back in the early days with very slow modems. I think it was used even before BBS's (Bulliton boards) started up (late 80s?).

For the life of me I can't remember the name anymore, but yeah....by 84 you could email.

Im not surprised. As said my grandad made his own OS using DOS so I always figured it was capable of doing most anything a computer with say windows could do provided you had the know how.

They were connecting to an information service, similar to the original pre-Internet CompuServe, Prodigy or AOL, it was not an ISP. E-mail could only be sent to other Prestel users.

This.

heck, most stores didn't even carry PCs until around the mid 90s. Prior to then they were mostly glorified typewriters to most people.

It was way more complicated to get online in that video than I remember it being with a modem.
