Made ribs and set myself aside some to take home for dinner tonight. All day I'm looking forward to them, and when I get done work, they're gone.

I don't even think anyone would've taken them to eat. They still needed prepared and wouldn't have really been any good as they were, so I assume someone just threw them out. I'm so pissed.

Yeah our work cleans out the fridge every Friday so anything without a name and date is tossed. Really your own fault if you didn't mark your food.

I dont really understand the situation, you prepped ribs at work for your dinner at home, and put them in the communal fridge?

I'm sorry you lost your ribs :(

Yeah, it's Friday

Ideally they'd have a notice or schedule posted but most places I've worked someone clears out the fridge once a week

Haha, this is how I read it as well and I am equally confused.

Excuse me for sounding like a LameJokeAlt, but people who throw out an animal's life like that should be thrown in a dumpster themselves. If it had gone bad, it'd have smelled, so the meat should've been consumed like the animal gave its life for. And does it really hurt to ask around? (I don't know what kind of place you work at so I don't know if that'd be possible)

That said, at my (soon to be former) job, you have to put your name and date on all food items. With no name, it's free for anyone to take and with no date (or an expired date), it'll be discarded at month's end by whoever's assigned to clean the fridge (everyone gets assigned once a year). That cleaning date was today. So next time, find a way to stick a label on there.

I once threw out my father's Big Mac. I was doing the dishes, it was on the counter, I wasn't thinking and boy was he pissed.

I work in the prep room of a restaurant, as the only butcher. Most of the stuff I handle is raw, but I also cook the ribs in marinade for two hours. Then they go in the walk-in, and when it comes time to sell them, they cook them again and put the sauce and spices on them.

After taking off the ribs, I put some of them aside for myself in a to-go container and put them in the prep room fridge (where stuff like certain sauces and mixes are kept). Only like 4 people really have reason to use that fridge, and they all knew I put food in there for myself. It's not like a "the fridge gets cleaned on Fridays" type of thing, I work about 5 feet from the fridge so someone must have tossed them while I had walked away or something

At my job there are like 12 fridges (there are 1000+ people employed here) and each one gets cleaned out on a specific day, and EVERYTHING gets thrown out on that day if it's in that fridge.

this specific situation does sound pretty bizarre and unfortunate, but the topic title is just so wrong that I find it hard to empathize with you. there are absolutely situations where you would be justified in throwing out someone else's food, usually as a result of them making a ridiculous mess with no intention to ever clean up after themselves.

nah

all the ribs sold there are shortribs, and when you cook them, sometimes ribs end up falling apart or breaking or being too small to sell. Usually it's only like a couple ribs at a time at the most, and they either get eaten by employees or tossed. But today I had to make considerably more than usual for the holiday weekend, so there ended up being quite a few, enough to be my dinner for the night.

I actually almost never take food home, less so than pretty much anyone else in the kitchen, so it's especially frustrating
