Tonight was like one exciting fight that went to meh, multiple stomps, and then a match where it seems like everyone called the winner.

Seems the fights this week went about as I expected. This far in the season you can tell which bots are dialed in and which ones are a bit shaky this time around.

About Witch Doctor, yeah they toned their weapon down. In a previous fight they went to max power and the thing only handled 1-2 hits before smoking itself out, IIRC. For a 50 pound spinner, it's certainly got a good amount of kick. It'll be interesting to see how they shape up against a bot with a reach advantage, like Death Roll.

There should be a lot of mayhem in the top 16 this year.

That Witch Doctor Gigabyte fight was amazing, the launches were incredible. One of the best fights of the year so far.

Shatter was disappointing. They had plenty of chances in that fight, but their weapon was garbo. They deserved to get that big hit and go flying.

Bronco is beat, they need to redesign it. All the good robots now are very compact but Bronco is a boat out there. It's looks like a Lincoln Town Car in an F1 race. I love Huge, though, they have a great concept and it's really dialed in this year.

There are currently 13 bots that have 3+ wins and a winning record, including the Deseprado tournament champion who has already clinched a spot in the postseason, Black Dragon. Then you have a whopping 21 bots on the bubble at 2-1 or 2-2, plus Minotaur at 3-3 thanks to its unsuccessful run in the Desperado. Those 2-1's will all have one more fight, so there's a good chance that at least a couple of them will improve to 3-1.

At this point, I think the only bots with an even record that might stand any chance of making the postseason without some sort of Last Chance Rumble are Cobalt (since one of their losses was that total fluke loss to Duck), Rotator (since they had a really tough schedule and got the upset win over Tombstone), and maybe Minotaur (since they're 3-3 rather than 2-2 thanks to the Desperado, and they're trending upwards after starting 0-2).

There will probably be a lot of movement before the end though, and I think the 3-1's that have a really weak strength of schedule still have a reason to be concerned as they watch the last regular season fights. What do you guys think? Do you think any bots with a record worse than 3-1 will be able to squeak their way into the postseason? Do you think any of the bots already 3-1 are at risk of falling out of it?

That's quite a list, I don't think less than 3-1 will do it. Competition this season seems like it's gone up, and the bots at the top have all more than earned it.

Wow... that's rough. If we assume Rotator gets in for the reasons you mention that leaves only 2 spots based on win-loss ratio.

I'm starting to think that the show might have a surprise in store for us and announce the tournament field being expanded to 24 bots. At the very least, I think the field will expand to 24 next season, because there are so many fantastic bots that are going to miss out if it's only 16.

As someone who was rooting for gigabyte, that was damn hard to watch. Though the comment about seeing flying saucers in the LA area was funny.

Seems shatter's weapon was acting up again like the witch doctor fight... so that was disappointing, though it did get a decent hit into the wheel area of minotaur, but seemed to just be the void area where nothing happens.

I also feel bad for breaker box, was hoping to see it do alright, but it just burns itself out or get critical hit'd. At least it was less brutal to watch than gigabyte.

I'm so glad Witch Doctor is competitive this year. They're such a fun team without being cringey.

I do feel a little bad for Bronco though. It's just not their year. Did they modify their bot that much from last year? It had it just been bad luck/bad matchups?

In at least one of the matches I believe they said they weren't able to go with their traditional parts manufacturer. That's the reason they supplied for why their frame and lifting arm have been, relatively speaking, trashy this year.
