It's Friday, which means BattleBots is back on the air for another night of metal-munching mayhem! Here's our fight card for tonight:



Our main event tonight pits the aptly-named HUGE against the powerful flipper of Bronco! While both bots made the postseason tournament last year, their paths have gone in opposite directions since. HUGE sits at 2-1 and could secure a place in the postseason with a win, but Bronco has started this season 0-2 and is already in danger of missing out on the top 16 for the first time in its BattleBots career! Dominant veterans such as Son Of Whyachi, Minotaur, and Witch Doctor line the fight card for tonight, as well as stunning rookies like Texas Twister, Shatter, and Railgun Max. Which bots will make a deep impression on the selection committee, and which will instead make a deep impression on the floor and walls of the BattleBox? I uploaded this topic earlier than usual tonight because my area is currently in a tornado warning, and will likely be in a thunderstorm warning for at least a few hours after this. There's a decent chance that my cable/internet could go out, which would cause me to miss part of the show.

Setting the DVR box now, though I'll probably watch live this week.

First, Bronco, if you can't beat Huge it might be time to retire and let Hydra take over as a flipper bot... Bronco has had some serious issues this season, and the fight against Huge is a must-win IMHO.

Minotaur against Shatter I have to go with Minotaur. IIRC they got their spinner issues worked out. The only potential downside would be if Shatter's crumble-away armor potentially gets stuck in Minotaur's motors.

While I like Kraken's style, I can see the bot being ripped in half by SoW. That thing's spinner bar packs a whallop and Kraken doesn't have a way to respond to that. So SoW will either kill Kraken, or itself...

Rail Gun Max against Wan Hoo... In theory Rail Gun Max should have an advantage based on its weapon.

Witch Doctor versus Gigabyte. I forget if Witch Doctor has an appropriate wedge to apply or not. But if they do this is definitely a fight for it. They'll want to deflect Gigabyte up into the air where the bot can once again destroy its righting arm.

Breaker Box against Bloodsport... If Breaker Box's face can make like Duck! and block a hit I'd give them the win. But IIRC their wedge is much thinner and lighter. Still, a high speed box rush is probably their best bet. Get in quickly and rough up Bloodsport's orientation to keep the blades from reaching speed and they should have a decent match.

For the last fight, I have to go with Whiplash. Texas Twister was way too passive in their last fight, where they KNEW and expressed that the best strategy was to rush their opponent with their metal shield. Whiplash on the other hand has proven itself quite capable in terms of both driving and strategy.

The tornado warning had already been downgraded to a tornado watch, and the main part of the storm seems to be past us now.

I think Texas Twister and Shatter will put up a much bigger fight than you're giving them credit for, but I agree with everything else you said. I think Bronco is totally screwed because HUGE is such an awkward bot to face. Can Bronco even do anything to it at all?

Shatter got bullied. They got like one good hit in when the hammer got through Minotaur a bit.

Shatter put up a hell of a fight and landed some shots with the hammer, but Minotaur was just too strong. At 3-3 (including 2-1 in the Desperado Tournament) I'm not sure if Minotaur has the resume to make the postseason. They have a chance, but I don't think it's a good one.

I was worried I wouldn't get to watch after all since I'm back at college, and YouTube TV won't let me access it at this location since it isn't the home one. Luckily, going to Discovery directly and signing under YT TV seems to do the trick.

Wan Hoo was smoking a bit, but that just turned into an underwhelming match after they messed up their weapons.

Railgun Max landed some big shots, but then both weapons died and it turned into a shoving match. Railgun definitely won though, because Wan Hoo did absolutely nothing back to it.
