It's Friday, which means BattleBots is back on the air for another night of metal-munching mayhem! Here's our fight card for tonight:



The long-awaited battle of the flippers is upon us! While Hydra has been launching opponents skyward on its way to a 3-0 record in its rookie campaign, the once-dominant Bronco has fallen on hard times and is sitting at 0-3 with their playoff hopes all but gone. Can Bronco get on the board with a victory and prove that they still have what it takes, or will the old horse be put out to pasture by the newcomer? Also tonight: Skorpios, Railgun Max, and the defending champion Bite Force also sit at 3-0 and look to cap off an undefeated regular season, while several 2-win bots look to impress the selection committee with one final statement win before the postseason tournament bracket is revealed. Which bots will leave with a big win, and which will leave in a trash bin? Tune in tonight at 8PM EST on the Discovery Channel to watch the carnage unfold!

Lotta one sided matchups, but hopefully that means lots of bot parts getting scattered across the arena floor. I really hope Uppercut can get around Skorpios' wedge and land some shots. We haven't seen a lot of them so far but they have such a cool weapon.

Lmfao that bot got flipped like 6 feet into the air then its part went flying off when it was righting itself back up. Almost like it intentionally flung it as a hail mary projectile attack

Breaker Box put up way more of a fight than I thought they would, but Hypershock wins in the end and improves to 3-1. With their only loss being to the defending champions, I think they have the resume to make the tournament.

Gigabyte was getting torn to shreds by Witch Doctor in that fight, and the fact that it stayed mobile the whole three minutes is nothing short of a miracle. It's funny how the one fight where their self-righting pole actually worked was a fight where whether it worked or not just didn't matter.

A good win for Yeti. Same as with Hypershock, they're 3-1 with their only loss being to Bite Force, so I think they're safely in the postseason.

I'm still amused that they turned Witch Doctors weapon down and it did that.

Hypershock and Yeti improved to 3-1, and Railgun Max just suffered its first loss to fall to 3-1. All three should likely make the tournament though.

That was an impressive win by Uppercut right there. Some might call that an upset, but either way, Skorpios falls from the ranks of the undefeated and both of these bots now sit at 3-1.

Flawless victory, plain and simple. Hydra showed insane power with those huge flips and insane skill in wedging Bronco against the wall so that their flipper couldn't fully retract, locking them in place for a KO victory. The king is dead, and long live the king.

It's worth noting that there are exactly 16 bots with a record of 3-1 or better, which is exactly enough to round out the tournament field without any bots lower than 3-1 getting in. But some of those 3-1 bots have a fairly weak strength of schedule, while some of the 2-2 bots (and 3-3 Minotaur) have a solid resume with some big wins. It's also worth noting that Chris and Kenny said that the postseason starts next week, but that doesn't mean the regular season is necessarily over. We could still have a few more regular season fights, maybe even a last chance rumble or some other kind of play-in, before the tournament officially starts.

Hail Hydra! Its combination of compact design and powerful flipper with unlimited flips makes it a force. Hard to call it a favorite when Bite Force just doesn't lose, but still.

I was bummed Uppercut went serious with a more traditional spinning bar, but that was a great win so they're forgiven.

Rail Gun Max got hosed with that BS decision.

With the super strong field this year, I hope they don't monkey about too much with the final tournament. Take the bots who won the most and let them fight to the finish. That will mean that amazing bots won't make the finals, but that's gonna happen with the more global reach of this year's field and the depth of dangerous as shit machines we got to enjoy this year.

I honestly think Hydra is one of the few bots that could beat Bite Force if they met in the tournament.

Part of Bite Force's power is the fact that no one else has gotten under it yet, but if Hydra can get under it, I don't know if this Bite Force can self-right. It's just a matter of whether Hydra will make it that far and not lose to someone else before then. We don't know how Hydra would handle a spinner like Tombstone or Minotaur (which can run invertible) or even its brother Son Of Whyachi (which is very difficult to get close enough to flip in the first place) because they haven't faced spinners like that yet. Plus, there's always HUGE to watch out for, and I'm not sure Hydra would fare that much better than Bronco did in that matchup.

Just got finished watching the episode, had to tape it this week, and yeah, the matchups were mostly by knockout.

The main event had to be such a heartbreak for the losing team. I know they said that their parts supplier was changed so there was some reliability issues there, but everything has gone wrong for them this season. Meanwhile the 'new bot in town' was looking very impressive. As others have eluded to though, we haven't seen how Hydra manages receiving hits from other bots. It's a low and sleek design, but some of the spinners out there pack a wallop.

Yeah, my takeaway was that Free Shipping got the fourth point for a razor thin judges decision based on the weapon breaking on Railgun. The red box part on Free Shipping was mostly cosmetic damage the way it was removed, so the damage to judge was one wheel versus the main weapon.

Looking at the standings, the 4-0 bots along with the 3-1 bots and the Desperado winner already makes up 16 slots! If they just go off the winning records then ALL of the 2-2 bots, and Minotaur at their 3-3 record, are already SOL.

At this rate I wonder if Battlebots will do a 32 bracket postseason next year.

I'm assuming they'll have a last chance rumble for a few of the borderline bots.

The real question is some of the 50/50 bots. Namely Rotator, Minotaur, and Cobalt. I'd imagine from at least a marketing perspective they'd want those bots in, especially Minotaur, but I'm not sure what three 3-1 bots get cut.

Unless they throw all 3 of them in the rumble, which holy hell that'd be a sight. Even then at least 1 of the 3-1 bots would not make the cut (and likely also be put in the rumble), and I'm not sure who that is. Railgun Max feels like the most obvious of the bunch given it's schedule was pretty soft.
