I just started it today, and it's been pretty enjoyable. The car is kind of shitty though. But I've been enjoying all the interactions

Disappointing for sure, but not bad. Especially now that it's complete... Or it's as complete as it ever will be. But yeah, I had fun with it. The world is unnecessarily massive. So yeah that kinda sucks because you spend so much time driving to and from places, but at least you can screw around on your phone or something while driving.

Hated it. It's a incomplete game that story is sold in chunks. I buy JRPG for a fun dramatic little story and menu base command. It's combat was just ok. It's main flaw was the story being poorly told.

Had potential but made too much emphasis on a combat system that is a bit intuitive but with the sponges you're fighting there's no real incentive to master it as long as you have enough elixirs. And then it literally railroaded you towards the end of the story.

Makes me wish we knew what the original game would have been, before they scrapped the original girl for Luna.

I liked the open world part of the game. However there comes a point where it becomes very linear, which I disliked that section of the game (especially 1 infamous chapter).

Pretty sure you still have to buy one or two more dlc's for the "complete" experience.

The car is a piece of crap, it's fuel efficiency is something that'd get any oil baron hard. The respawn timers are shit, I'd be fighting a mob, only for their respawn to pop in mid-fight. Sidequests are dumb, they will send you to areas you haven't unlocked, or against mobs that are beyond your skill level. The noodle product placement is as subtle as a wrecking ball through a plate glass window. The story is incomplete. There are rings that guard against friendly fire, they rarely work.

All that said, it is fun to play, but don't expect anything with substance.

The opposite was true for me. Both games were major flops in terms of characters and story for me but I at least enjoyed combat in 13. The combat and the open world did absolutely nothing for me in 15.

The game has serious, glaring problems....

But I really enjoyed it overall, and the ending might be my favorite of this generation.

It's like the best 7.5/10 I've ever played, if that makes sense to you.

I completely get this. Id probably agree.

I also think people are bias on the combat. Because FF has always been easy and I bet it doesn't factor in when they judge their favorites. The bottom line is that it was more unique than what 90% of its competitors are doing and very enjoyable. There's some endgame content that's a challenge btw.

I dropped it after maybe 10ish hours. It's one'a the few FFs I haven't finished. I found it difficult ta care about anything in it - cast, story, world, battle system. It didn't feel terrible but it felt pretty bland'n soulless, 'n it looks even more mediocre when put up against the other big JRPG series out right now

This was way back when it first released so I have no idea if all the post-launch stuff completely fixed it but I have zero intention ta ever go back

Beautiful looking game
Beautiful music
Trash everything else

I somehow put in 150 hours, but I only really enjoyed like 15 hours

That Leviathan fight was the most flaccid disappointing thing I've seen in gaming, at least on that scale. It was like expecting a red, half million sports car convertible, but getting a green, dirty mini van with the top half cut off

I could list a couple of things I liked about it to seem "balanced", but I honestly hated the whole fucking game. Takes a few hours to realize just how bad it is, and those hours can be somewhat enjoyable.

Gameplay is beyond terrible, requiring very little input beyond holding or mashing the attack button (or more so the warp strike button) and alternatively the dodge button.

The difficulty tuning is absurd. I don't ask for Dark Souls in Final Fantasy, but having a whole other health bar when you hit zero, having full iframes on whenever you use an item or do a special attack for like i dunno 7 seconds? Thats preposterous. And the game is balanced around this feature so fuck anyone who bitches that if you dont like it, dont use potions.

The open world is worthless. Its big, Theres some story geography and some nice looking places, but overall, its just an empty waste. You cant go exploring and have interesting sidequests or NPC meetings. Its run around, fight the same 14 or so enemies over and over, go to a gas station with a diner and have absolutely zero interaction with anyone in this mainline entry in the world's premier RPG franchise. There's not even a talk option with the shopkeep to make it seem like you have any reason to engage with this sprawlingly worthless world they've created.

Sidequests are literal MMO-style trash given by garbage NPCs. And even that is unfair cause while it has a lot of MMO trash, FF14 also has a lot of memorable sidequests with great characters and great dialogue. FF15 does not.

And its not even just the sidequest NPCs that are terrible. It's all of them. The lady in the suit when Gladio comes back is like the only person you meet in that town and they couldnt even be bothered to create a unique model for her, its just a reused generic one. Talbot and his grandfather, just trash taken from the randomly generated pool of NPCs that fill the town up. Its the kind of stuff FF games usually only do in sequels made on the cheap, like FFX-2 or Lightning Returns.

Because of the open world of repeatable content theres next to no unique items to find, its just randomly generated shinies. No creaking of treasure chests opening to get you erect, just crap you pick up on the run. No reason to actually explore the world.

Story chunks were clearly removed from the game to sell as DLC later. Gladio basically breaks the fourth wall and tells the player that he's going off on his own adventure for a bit and you need to buy the DLC pack to find out what happened. And Kingsglaive is a much more interesting everything than the game itself ended up being. What happens with Regis, Aldercapt and Aldyn and armor guy is actually somewhat interesting. It's the only time Lunafreya and Ravus actually have character to speak of, and the Insomnia presented looks like it would actually be cool to play in rather than the dead open world of the main game.

Game has like three bosses that aren't just normal enemies that are treated as bosses before being demoted. It's boring.

Then when the game narrows in and becomes more linear I wanna say it becomes better because it doesnt have all the massive open world issues, but since the gameplay is still trash the only thing to focus on is the story and its beyond bad. Things happen without logic consistency its all random shit thrown at the screen without adherence to any conventions of storytelling.
e
Oh, and chapter 13 is the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of videogaming.

I just hope beyond all hope that Square does not take 15 as a model for the franchise moving forward, but from what I can tell it sold fairly well, so I assume they will and honestly, that would be the end of my involvement with the franchise.

And that's precisely why I'd say it's more disappointing than it is bad. Most of the hate seems to stem from being let down. Everyone waited in anticipation. There was nearly a decades worth of high expectations and hype. When it finally came out, yeah it was a let down but it wasn't anything less than the other painfully mediocre jrpgs that come out year after year. And part of that is we went years without any decent FFs. So the thirst was real.

With 13, that kinda just came out. We didn't have the time to hype it up, so when it fell flat, it didn't fall from as far. However when I put wait time aside and all the hype XV is far from the worst FF. That's how it is for me.

I've played FF4-15 excluding 11 and 14 and the only two I didnt finish because I didnt like them were 10 and 15.

I wasnt expecting much from 15 after how low the bar was set with 13. And I was still disappointed because like someone else said there wasnt a single aspect about the game I enjoyed. Not one.

Definitely agree with this. Especially in regards to the combat and storytelling. XV felt more disappointing than bad. I still enjoyed it for what it was, though, maybe because I didn't really have any expectations going in other than that I'd like the characters.

I didn't hate it, I just wish it had been handled better.
