yda was zzzz. her and papalymo are Exhibit A for bad ARR storytelling - boring questgivers who periodically show up and make you do stuff but have no actual personality.

lyse is likable (if a bit forgettable) and cute. she's not great or anything, but I'm kinda stunned that anyone thinks yda was better

Yda actually had some personality - she was kind of a quirky cheerful goofball. Generic but likeable enough. I don't hate Lyse but they completely removed that aspect of her so she could have a generic brooding arc instead. I guess the implication was she was faking it? Is that only how the actual Yda acted? I dunno! It just...doesn't make too much sense.

She gets a chunk cut out of her mask during the cutscene at the end of the ARR questline, which reveals her blonde hair and blue eye(s), but that's it until she reveals herself as Lyse.

It is kind of funny because Gyr Abania has the overall better plot of the two, but the characters not named Raubahn are so mediocre compared to the star squad of Gosetsu, Yugiri, Hien, Magnai, Sadu, Soroban, even Hancock...

I also liked Yotsuyu more than Zenos. Imagine my hype when she showed up with Gosetsu after the credits.

Zenos isn't good but Yotsuyu is total fucking ass. The Steppe is the only good part of the Far East plotting. Just delete Doma.

it used to be worse until literally this patch where Patience was a post-50 skill and the !s didn't exist so you had to manually learn the sounds/animation for tug strength

First of all yeah, the Ivalice raid series is pretty obnoxious to the point where people deliberately remove gear while queuing for Alliance so that they don't get them. It's changing a little because beating that questline is going to be important in a month or two so people are actively doing it, but yeah.

Second of all, tanks actually have the worst queue for Alliance because there's only 3 spots. If you have a DPS or Healer at that level it'll actually be faster. That said, an hour is ridiculous.

My experience is the opposite, weirdly enough. Tanks have blazing queues for Alliances, second only to 'queue, ding instantly' healers. You're right about how common Ivalice raids are though -- the important thing to remember is that only 40% of the playerbase or so has clears on any sort of difficult content (Extremes and up) and the Ivalice raids are much closer to Extremes than your average normal dungeon snoozefest. Really wish they ilevel-capped Crystal Tower to 50-70, tbqh. You'd see an actually decent spread across the alliance roulette if people couldn't totally obliterate thanks to ARR's fucked up scaling.

Im so torn on the SB raids, and ShB appears to be having the same problem:

The raids are freaking awesome the first time, maybe first couple times. But they're a slog to go through and wear out their welcome fast. Just takes way too long to do them for a daily roulette, which encourages people to cheat it, which causes new players to be sad as they never find 24 people

I dont feel like Copied Factory takes too too long or too much effort. I mean sure its not as fast as like, Labyrinth, but nothing is ever going to be.

I haven't done the copied factory in awhile so it could easily have sped up a lot with higher ilvls/people knowing what to do

Yeah Copied Factory is one people have gotten their act together on for the most part, aside from Alliance B wiping on Hobbes on a somewhat consistent basis. Its not easy by any means but its way less obnoxious than Orbonne.

I'm sure Orbonne was easier a month or so after it was relevant. New waves of new players when 5.0 launched made it struggle worthy again, even more so that vets weren't likely queuing for it.

Nier will be the same way in a few months when the second or third raid comes out and new players have to do part 1 again

Copied Factory is significantly easier because it has very few mechanics combined with overall raid health checks that will result in a raid wide wipe. Just about everything is recoverable unless every resurrection in the raid decided to die at once.

Never had a wipe on Hobbes on any copied factory raid.

Copied Factory on my DC usually takes about an hour though.

I've seen more wipes on Orbonne at Cid than any other raid combined though.

This is very true, btw - release day I was in alliance B with like three RDM, and we kept Hobbes going for like ever without ever wiping

BTW if you rez people from other alliances in that fight they rez with you,then get flung back to where they should be after a bit

Wow what the hell? I haven't done it since the patch but I did it to catch up on some gear a few months back and on Aether I barely see wipes anymore. Even at 5.1 release the first week or two was rocky but tbqh it's the easiest 24-man at release since Void Ark.

I think due to gear scaling the only raids that really give me issues if I get them in roulette are Dun Scaith and Monastery, though I have rolled Monastery maybe once ever. Occasionally I'll get into a cursed WoD run where no one knows what to do but those are infrequent.

Only if you really want glowy weapons, or are otherwise bored

If you don't want the weapon for glamor, it's mostly worthless. There are a couple mounts, a minion, hairstyle, and emotes, but most can be bought on the marketboard.

Exceptions to the marketboard being the Trex mount (not bad to get) and the ozma mount (enjoy the full grind!)

Level cap doesn't mean anything for Eureka. It's unlocked at 70, you are level synced down to 70 when you do it, and it has a completely separate leveling mechanic that you start at level 1 with.

I'd recommend that if you have any intention of ever doing it, at least do your weekly Eureka Challenge Log to get started on the leveling process.
