I was a dark elf mage last time. I had fun with it. Is being a warrior harder?

The most interesting build I ever made was a pacifist mage. He was great at summoning monsters to fight for him while he hid and healed like a sissy.

Honestly, this was to circumvent how nerfed mages are in Skyrim.

Get some mods, get 5 followers and give them all thousands of scrolls each which let them cast a single element spells and summons (so give your first follower 10k scrolls of fireball and conjure flame summon, ect, ect.) The fourth gets all elements, and the last gets 10k staves to summon Daedra Lords. Next, get yourself a mod which gives you the summon Dragon Priest spell - who will also conjure summons as they spawn.

Laugh as you become the greatest commander in all of Tamriel

It was so disappointing. I know game development is hard but how could they not realise that it's literally impossible to be a destruction mage?

Think about that. You're a game developer making an RPG about dragons and magic. And you decide at some point that the most powerful spells in the game are actually weaker than a regular sword and take about 10x as long to cast. In essence, being a mage that attacks things directly with magic is not viable.

Or maybe you didn't realise. How that could happen is incredible.

I totally agree. For a game that intends to imitate dungeon crawling RPG it was unacceptable.

Consider that you can literally play a warrior/ tank build in any game.

Magic is what sets that apart.

Bethesda misses the mark then tries to draw bullseyes around what they do hit.

There's mods that balance magic to scale with player level properly. It's invaluable if playing mage.

I finally got to have fun as a mage when I tried this, was great.

Before that it was warhammer and bow or uninstall.

I know but that doesn't invalidate the criticism of the game devs

Only way Ive found to compensate for this is to have a decent conjured buddy to draw aggro while abusing the enchanting skill to make it cost nothing to cast Destruction spells.

Is it really a pacifist if he is summoning monsters that hurt the enemies? A pacifist character would cast things like calm on his enemies. Though without mods, there arent too many interesting spells you can cast for a true pacifist.

Which is fine if you don't mind a long fight but you're still strafing about casting endless amounts of fireballs which do about as much damage as throwing peas. Lacks that sense of awe.

Legendary difficulty or GTFO. Pretty much everything can be dodged (except those fucking icicle spells). It's fun as hell once you get past getting killcammed over and over for the first few hours.
